I immediately made it bigger, started adding ribbon windows (long narrow windows to fit between the studs) on the back wall of the living room, a space for a wood burning stove or fireplace, a utility room, and solar panels + batteries. It looks like a great setup. Have always thought a Usonian home would be much nicer if you built three of them together into a U shape to allow for more space & create a courtyard.

Kerry, I absolutely love these modular homes but I think some of these companies underestimate the importance of the kitchen. Kitchens are literally the heart of every home! No matter if you’re a bachelor, retired, or young professional; everyone gathers around the place where food and drinks are made. Love your channel!

My kitchen is old and outdated and it doesn't bother me. I'm older, single, work from home... my kitchen is just utilitarian. I live in a decent 1BR apartment in the downtown area of a large city. My place isn't made for hanging out and I despise cooking... most of what I eat isn't cooked, so it works out well for me. Kitchen can be small, but in an ideal house I would just like nice finishes and appliances. The size of this one would be perfect for me.
@Aortadetroit3 күн бұрын
I agree this kitchen feels like an afterthought and as Kerry pointed out the space just isn't filling up gracefully. It has an inexpensive motel feel to its layout. For me this is an AirBnB not a home. Nothing wrong with that of course and POD builds solid. I trust their construction.

It's great to read the comments. I agree with moving the bathroom. It truly needs to be near the master bedroom. Most don't want to walk that far in the middle of the night. Especially when older folks tend to downsize to something like this. Also, I like some closed off rooms. I've got a 1960s house. I can shut the door to the kitchen and invite people to the living room without worrying about the dishes, etc. being visible.

I like the U-shape, but would like the courtyard area to be the back of the house, with a normal door for a front door. A sliding door is nice, but I'd prefer that to go into maybe a nice fenced back yard. Love the idea of a steel frame, rather than wood.

I like the courtyard design, but I'm still not fond of Irish windows, or lack of them. I'd still want a window in the bathroom AND a tub, a window at the kitchen sink, and a sliding glass door in the master bedroom. And it is a total waste of space to put the on demand water heater in one of the kitchen cabinets. Renai makes one for outside, and that is exactly where I'd put the water heater so I could have that extra cabinet space for more kitchen storage. Love the built in closets in both bedrooms. All in all, a cool design, just needs some tweaking to make it more homey for me. Thanks for the tour.

The lack of storage in modern architecture in general disturbs me greatly. Nobody wants to live with their items piled up in the corners. Nobody wants to stare at the vacuum cleaner and brooms all day either. It's like the people that design them, have never had to live in them, nor clean them -- or they think we all own two pairs of pants, one shirt and a single towel -- a solitary cereal bowl and a plate. Where do my out of season clothing and jackets go? There isn't even room for an air fryer in the kitchen in the video.

ok feedback you asked for : 1. first...I like today's sponsor! 2. Love the U shape . 3. still not feel ok with flat roof. 4 I totally agree with. Idea of work space at far end near kitchen, away from bedrooms... and find it extremely beneficial if not necessary. 4. LIke the arrangement of all rooms and hallways but want a tub not just a shower stall. 5. Love the big glass windows., closet and shelves and no need for a dresser .6. Want more pantry or food storage and meal prep space but could see how could include that in this design so that might fit in this one too. Thank you for... Another wonderfully well done presentation. My opinion re : thumbs up reminders....you do not have to be subtle...most of the best vids are not...they just say....do it..don't forget to , etc. and that works. Most people want to and do forget . And yours don't need encouragement for us to ..only the reminder ...but then you can be very creative with words so I certainly do not want to discourage that either...as your style of narrating is so original, fun, interesting, and creative. That is as much why watch as is the homes you show us.

The U Shape design is something I have often wondered about (now I don't have to!). I like that the exterior is almost completely sheltered, protecting you from the wind. I love the interior design as well - for a smaller house, it is pretty spacious. The only things I think I would add is a washer/dryer stacked in the kitchen and a small island. There is not a lot of counter space for food prep so that would help. Thanks for showing us this one. Is there anyone in Canada building something like this one? I'm def a fan of a U-shape home layout. Separate bedrooms from the noisy kitchen and family room hub or office. Creates angles so sound doesn't travel as well/far. When I go to sleep I need it QUIET and calm. If this model had more sky lights, I'd be buying it for an in-law dwelling or guest house, for sure!

@joeking50383 ай бұрын
Walk-arounds or U-shapes are great. They provide different light during different times of the day. There's more of a coziness and space interaction with this than the "straight" approach. All living spaces need a centerpiece and this one is the patio area. A portable firepit would be welcome here. This home layout could be massaged for each person's needs . One example would be build an island off the wall that's next to the refrigerator. I personally like how much storage space they've incorporated. Plus the outside eve lights are great for security purposes and lighting things up at night on the patio. The skylights are wonderfully placed. The only downer I noticed looking from the outside is the lack of a window on the left side. I know the right side has a built-in storage space which eliminates a window there. I personally love this direction.

Keep the bathroom where it is. Continue the hallway through the living area and use that space as the second bedroom. Create a master bedroom out of the current second bedroom and the right side of the house is its own master wing. You could create a closet to house a stackable washer and dryer right before the master bath.

I like the idea of a u-shaped home or 2 facing each other with space in between. The kitchen could be so much more substantial. And the window placements and shapes could be better: higher in the bedroom and living room. One window over the sink in the kitchen and a skylight in the bathroom. The bedroom windows are way too big and low for privacy and energy conservation imho. The general flow of rooms is good and the exterior aesthetic is pleasing. Thanks for showing us what's new, Kerry.

Nice, court yards, are useful in many climates!

I would swap the kitchen space for the living room space- putting the kitchen at the center of the home and giving a much larger living room. I would also forgo any dining space inside and give people the options of a partial pergola covering for in the U, a StruXure type louvered roof patio system, or a full covered patio- all for part of the U. I like the modular format though.

🏠 ~ A really cool pre-fab house; but that ultra tiny kitchen sink being too close to the wall - needs a little adjustment ... ☺️

Is it set up for washer/dryer

A Skillion Roof design with the middle section being level with this home structure would be really nice too. And maybe some slight form of a gazebo structure for the wide open front court yard.

I like it! Even a pergola

I like it but I'd prefer much lower profile heaters, or ideally an option for forced air heat/ac

That open court yard is nice but I only see that out west or warmer climates. It would be very out of place in the northeast
