I agree about this shape having a great deal of appeal. I also like the designs that go with a longer slant on one side of the roof. They not only look nice but they have a solid feel to them that the boxy shapes do not. Interior is important to me as well. The feeling of openness created by the lack of an attic is nice without sacrificing a lot of interior space on a second floor. You could still add an open loft for guests or just as a window seat to read. The downside here is it looks like plain wood construction and there no place to store cloths or even a vacuum cleaner or broom. Many of these plans hope you won't notice the lack of storage space, or simply have nothing. In terms of construction, It seems like it would be much simpler to build the basic shape as a series of metal forms then attach SIPS for speed of construction and strength. I am also attracted to builders who allow you to mix and match their buildings. Using a mini for entrance with one plan B on each side would give you a nice 1600 square foot home...and there would be room for closets!!..But only if you used steel and didn't have splice into a wooden wall. Something in me already smells mold!! I'm all for using new panelized materials or novel concrete mixes to provide interesting interiors and exteriors. I still love the Japanese dome homes because you buy the parts and assemble them in various ways. I often wonder why construction hasn't advanced faster in that direction.

Love the look on all of them. Plan B of the large one, with the three baths, is clearly meant to sell to AirBNB property owners, since you can get three couples in there fairly comfortably, or two VERY comfortably, with an extra bath for drunks to pass out in. A little expensive, but not unreasonable for what you're getting.

Love the look of these homes. They make me think of snazzy THOWs but bigger and without the wheels. My personal preference would be to not put in white boards on the interior walls because I associate that with a farmhouse style house and these are more modishinal, as you mentioned
@khc88002 жыл бұрын
Sloping roof was researched in architecture as the single most influential form factor in defining a home. The long narrow plan is also closer to reality of residential lots. I like it, especially for what looks like standing seam metal roof, but the transition to same exterior siding is a bit simplistic, making them look portable.
@sterlinghawk_g20 Жыл бұрын
Not only that, if you live in snowy area, in theory the snow should fall off. Can you imagine not having a slope roof and you go to your vacation house (which is laughable however I will not digress) and the roof has been caved in due to the heaviness of the snow.

Agree. It is actually shocking what most of these things cost. In the under 1000sq ft size our research shows we can get a stick built home for less than a pre fab. Other than the hassle of building, it makes zero sense to use a pre fab at a 20-30% premium.

I'd gladly give up the wall f windows for a bedroom closet. Or even just more room for furniture or built-in storage. Clerestory windows make plenty of light without eating up an entire wall. Also, I didn't see heating or cooling. Any word on that? Otherwise, I like the significant range of sizes and layouts. Thanks for another great video.
@IhabFahmy2 жыл бұрын
You could use tint film on the inside of any window wall to convert it to a closet-ready wall.
@OffRampTourist2 жыл бұрын
@@IhabFahmy interesting suggestion. But why compromise security for windows you're not going to use? We have been discussing design here and haven't really looked at materials but personally I'm focused on companies that use steel or concrete wall panels rather than wood or glass, or structures that can be bermed and sodded. Extreme weather is an extreme concern. For instance, shipping container builds can put an end wall of glass behind the existing steel doors, so you can 'batten down the hatches' during weather events. And the Huga designs have metal awnings.

Love the Peak! And the pricing. Shipping costs? My problem is always going to be finding contractors in my area. After 2 years of trying, I couldn't find a MF installer, or a CA licensed well driller. And unlike areas of AZ, Imperial county CA does not allow you to have potable water delivered, and stored on the property. Priced at over $100,000 it’s a dud. There is no way anyone in their right mind would fork out that much money for what is essentially a modified cargo container. We are at the cuspid of a major housing price correction, which will last for the next few years. What’s different about this correction is that home prices are not going to rebound as fast. There is too much pressure on the banking system and inflation is going to keep ticking prices higher as the value of the dollar drops. If you have money, buy gold (or some other inflationary proof item) to keep the value of your money safe. Wait 6 month to a year while home values tank. Don’t jump the gun this time because home prices are going to fall and not rebound. Make sure you have your 20% ready with that gold you purchased. Now you can buy a hell of a lot of home much cheaper than the cargo container modi. Even if you own your land, still wait until prices fall over the next 6 month to a year.
