I love Mariah Carey I”m a lamb/Ram but I feel like she keeps herself in a perpetual state of depression. She’s allowed the effects of Hollywood to yt wash her and has removed all trace she’s biracial. Yt woman can get perms to obtain the curly hair look she attributes to her African American lineage. I think if she went to acting class today in 2022 she’d still be guarded. She seems so uptight and uncomfortable. This was tough to watch.

Mariah was my best friend in kindergarten at Thomas J Lehey in Huntington, NY. I have very fond memories of her and her cats 🐈 . It was such a shock when I realized who she was. I hadn’t seen her since I was 7 at her birthday party. I had moved to New York City when I was 6 and I came out especially for her party and that was the last time I saw her. I have pictures from that time somewhere. I was living on the upper east side and going to college and there was a music store on third Avenue between 80th and 81st street and her first album was in the window. On a stand and I remember recognizing her name, because it was so unique. I was old enough that I had forgotten her last name, and it had been so long I didn’t recognize her face at all. I bought her tape and had it up at school with me, so I was already a fan. The next time I was home I was staying at my sister’s house. Love Takes Time came on VH-1 and the second I saw her face moving and her profile I realized immediately who she was, it all came together. You could have knocked me over with a feather, I was completely stunned. I had no idea she was musical or that her mother was an opera singer. I have always loved her music and still do. I miss you and love you Mariah. Such a sweet, kind friend. ❤️🦋

Mariah’s known to live her life in glamour and luxury but i love how she’s so comfortable on sharing her roots. I have so much love and respect for Queen Mariah. I love how open and honest she is about her life. She’s not ashamed to speak of the good, the bad or ugly. I found her music in Junior High School when I heard Someday early 90’s I think. Everyone was talking about her high notes and trying to figure out her race. I remember telling my school mates she’s going to be a SUPERSTAR, she’s the next Whitney Houston. 🦋
@FinhaBastos
@FinhaBastos 2 жыл бұрын
She's not the next anyone, she's Mariah. Whitney was great (and will always be) and Mariah is also great, this "the next someone" thing is kinda disrespectful with both of them.
@4evermistyblu
@4evermistyblu 2 жыл бұрын
@@FinhaBastos I made this reference when I was a CHILD!!!!! Not as an adult. At the time she came to the music scene, everyone compared her voice and style to Whitney Houston. Now as a 40 something woman, I’m very aware she’s her own person, with her own life, goals, etc. Again if you read the comments it clearly referenced a time period. I’m far from being disrespectful to anyone. Perhaps, the music industry at the time was disrespectful for trying to pin the two artists against each other.

Like Kerry, my father's family is from Jamaica and in my grandmother's lineage, it traces back into Ireland as one of my distant great grandmothers was once a slave ended up marrying a white Irishman. My grandmother's complexion was the same as Mariah's. I can definitely identify with the term of Black Irish having ancestral ties. Love me some Mariah and glad to come across this interview for a deep dive into one of my earliest crushes. Her debut album was the first ever CD I bought. She's always going to be a Queen for me.

I found Kerri more inspiring. She said that line about raising yourself and I had to pause and then listen to it again and reflect. She was being nice when she said parents do the best that they can. BUT even if they sucked we have to pick up the slack as adults and finish raising ourselves. Things like proper nutrition to finding healthy relationships with other humans. That was a good line she said.
