Kershaw Emerson CQC-4k and CQC-6k Initial Impressions

good vid man! I have the cqc-4k love it. I agree most people dont like the chis. grind on the emerson knives but i do actually like them only when i have used them in the field. The main reason for the design of the chisel is so it can be sharpened on a rock, blacktop, piece of steel in the field if needed. most guys wont be carrying a sharpener so it was designed to be sharpend on one side (though blacktop and a rock wont give u a razor edge) it will give you a functional cutting edge. I only went into all of that b/c i dont think most useers understnad the reasoning for the chiz. grind.

I've heard Emerson's reason for going with a chisel grind. It also allows for more precise cutting since once side is flat and you can see where the edge will cut into something. There's nothing wrong with it but I just find its not for me. I wouldn't mind the chisel grind as much if Ernest didn't keep putting it on the presentation side of the blade. Considering most people are right handed, putting the grind on the non-presentation side would mean you get that benefit of seeing where the edge is contacting the thing you plan to cut.

yeah, i will buy that about the presentation side. I could take it or leave it personally. When i used it in the field it came in handy. We carried the least amount of weight as possible so a sharpener was out of the question hence the sharpen on a rock, etc logic. on a sep note. I will say my cqc-4k came tight as hell. It was very tough to open. After adjusting, its all good. I will say i am GLAD kershaw kept that feature of Emerson in this line-the flat head screw adjustment. Its nicer than the typical torx. thanks for the reply, again nice vid!

Jimmy Kimber Yea I'm pretty sure Emerson was very strict with Kershaw about his designs. My 6k was tight at the pivot and after I loosened it up a hair its nice and fast now. The phillips head for the pocket screw is nice as well but the metal seems kinda soft. I ended up stripping the screw head a little of one of the screws because I didn't realized the screws were thread locked in. Also I would recommend tread locker for the pivot. After playing around with the knife for a bit the pivot loosened a bit and the knife started having some blade play side to side.

According to Kershaw's website...the steel on both of these is 8Cr14MoV.

Mine was sticky and gritty too. Opening and closing. I used a bit of ballistol and worked it a little, now its fine

nice honest review, i agree thumb down on thumb disc, heavy, kinda clunky, if you grip the knife wrong when opening i was pushing the frame lock into the blade messing up with opening, so in total cool box but what's inside is not a favorite

The 4K has teflon washers, making it so smooth

Adjust the pivot screw that'll help. That's what i had to do with my Kershaw CQC 4KXL

Are these G-10 scales has same smooth surface as on Tenacious? The textures seems to me similar.

I don't have a Tenacious on hand to compare directly right now but yea, these scales are pretty smooth. Not very grippy like Cold Steel g-10 scales.

Off ebay. You'll find a bunch of aftermarket titanium clips for a variety of different knives and you can get them for a pretty decent price.

U can't change them over to left handed.the fucken screws r too short. And kershaw is screwing around with the fact that they were unprepared for this. If u r left handed you r screwed. Right handed no problem

I know. I realized that about 2 weeks ago when I wanted to set it up to carry in my left pocket. I had emailed KAI USA and it took them a while to get back to me but when they did the customer service rep said that they're aware of the screw length problem and have the hardware on order. I recommend that if you need to carry the knife in left pocket to email them as well. And the claim is when the screws come in they will send them out to the people who request for them. Major oversight on Kershaws part though.
