Kerson Leong clearly practices at least 40 hours a day. Amazing performance. It looked effortless, and is one of the most lyrical renditions of this piece I've ever heard. Literal chills.

Such a difficult piece that requires so many hours of practicing but not really nice to listen to for many times, what a pity! If I were a professional violinist, I wouldn't invest in this sort of piece, so many greater masterpieces to learn. So I appreciate Leong's sacrifice lol

At 4:43 you can really hear the narrator voice saying "[the boy] is dead". What an amazing performance, the intensity, the passion, tenderness at times, the violent climax and solemn resolution it really does tell the story of der erlkonig very well,. All the voices are distinct and reflect the increasing intensity throughout the piece. Bravo!

What about hilary Hahn?
@aidentheabsurd
@aidentheabsurd 2 жыл бұрын
@@kaikirr technically flawless, yet too robotic. Lacks the subtle hints of musicality that Kerson presents to us here perfectly. Apart from that, Kerson has a broader and way deeper sound. Though, I must add: the latter observation is merely a matter of preference.
@aegeanenjoyer668
@aegeanenjoyer668 Жыл бұрын
@@aidentheabsurd I've noticed the same. Hahn lacks musicality and the technique to play Ernst at the proper tempo. Leong does a wonderful job with his rubato, perhaps the best in this piece alongside Feng's and maybe better, while Hahn just plays at a slow tempo like a robot since she doesn't have the mastery to play in any other way. Jansen would be far better for example. It's a pattern rather than an individual observation.

@patriciasalem3606
@patriciasalem3606 8 ай бұрын
@@aidentheabsurd I normally love Hahn's playing, but not for this piece. Her rendition is too slow and too measured, which is strange because she plays other pieces with much more passion. Maybe I'm listening to an older recording too, and she'd play with more nuance later in life. I certainly think she has the technical proficiency for it. Additionally, Kerson's instrument is PERFECT for this piece. In general I prefer a Guarneri to a Strad anyway for its richer tones and slight darkness versus the sweetness of the Strad.
