When you copy you just make a similar drawing. When you steal, you take the process, and add it to your, making your own process.

A wonderfully timed video! I've been feeling a bit dissatisfied with my art as of late and I was just thinking about studying their art! Haven't done anything like this in years, so this video is a good refresher on stealing correctly.
@thatoneuser86004 жыл бұрын
Has it helped you dramatically after a year, or has it hindered you? :)
@LilChuunosuke4 жыл бұрын
@@thatoneuser8600 sadly the past year has been super rough for me and the free time I'd normally dedicate towards art was spent either working towards improving my situation or catching up on much needed rest because I've been so exhausted. So I haven't been able to pick up the pencil much, but I've been picking up the pencil when I can and trying to adjust my style to look more like the ones that appeal to me most. I've definitely had some things "click" from studying my faves. I'm trying to keep those discoveries active in my mind as I draw independently. :)
@thatoneuser86004 жыл бұрын
Total Trash Mammal Nice! I've applied this advice to learning fictional writing by imitating the style of multiple authors and things are also clicking really quickly for me, I guess this advice is really good for learning anything in general, you know, imitating the masters.

I think it's okay to copy as long as you keep it to yourself like I do. I'm still learning how to drawn and I have like pages of almost exactly copies of Kasey Golden and lots of others.

A lot of the times i see work from an artists I like, a comic i read, or even an anime I watch. I’m at a very basic stage of art where i want to draw but i don’t have the skills yet to make my own creations how i want and i love what other artists make. I in no way am trying to steal from them, but just get a better understanding of how people might draw the shape of a head or the alignment of the facial features. I have been getting into posting stuff on instagram so that’s where i’m trying to be the most careful and credit the actual artist. So I like to practice my art skills by imitating a drawing an artist may have drawn and sometimes add a little flair of my own but I will always credit the artist if i am inspired by their work.
@KeshArt6 жыл бұрын
That's a great way to learn! I do that very frequently
@emuhh1256 жыл бұрын
Kesh Thank you and I’m glad you made this video! I often felt conflicted on this topic because like you said it can be a bit iffy in the art community but we all have our methods of learning.

What's so cool about this video is that it transcends almost all other mediums as well. This video also absolutely applies to music and cooking. The way you start out is always emulating your environment around you so you have an understanding of the fundamentals and so that you always have inspiration. As a musician, I never stop learning other people's songs. I never try and pass other people's work as my own but I have such a love for music, my love for certain genres always leak in.
@KeshArt Жыл бұрын
It's so great to hear your perspective as a musician 😃. I actually learned this concept from music as well, how pianists don't start composing their own from the get go but rather emulate those around them to find their voice (after having learned the fundamentals ofcourse)
