I just wanted a quick reference for what to do 1: Replace - Think about why you play the game, and replace what you do when that situation arises 2: Record - Look at the actual time you are spending 3: Realize - Reflect on the big picture and what you are doing 4: Remove - Get it away, practically and physically 5: Rules - Make rules and boundaries to create an if-then ruleset "Do you want to be addicted to video games what pass away the time, or do you want to keep it in a healthy balance where you enjoy life"

Hello Keshav, Thank you for this video. My gaming addiction stemmed from temporary achievements. I always felt good about being good at a game. I get praise from my friends and ATTENTION from my friends when I'm good at it. Whenever I get into a game, I'd pour hours and hours of my time. Yeah, I was able to still do things while gaming but I was neglecting my significant other. I am 28 now, priorities change. Back then I'd game and neglect school. I just do the bare minimum to get by and do the maximum in games. I want to change so I can be a better person and get my time back. I don't want gaming to consume my life. Now that I think of it, I would pour so much time and resources into gaming for what? I think it stems from the loneliness or neglect of real life. I use gaming as a means to escape reality instead of facing it. I had a very rough time growing up where I didn't have present parents(single mom who worked majority of my childhood). I used gaming to get attention and validation. Things I never get usually in real life. I felt like nothing I do is enough. I always compare myself to others, watching from the outside. I was jealous of people who had loving parents, jealous of people who have everything together. My mother found a different partner later down her life and her attention went to him and their kids. I have a good job, I am a go-getter but gaming makes me comfortable and I got too comfortable. It's because its convenient. If i were to time my gaming per day, it's probably close to 10+ hours a day. When I'm studying, all I want to do is game. You're right. I believe I'm selfish as well. I like helping people but not for the right reasons. I want to help people because they give me the attention and time of the day. Once they're done giving me temporary praise, I just feel empty again. When I was a little kid, I'd be a very good student. I did very well in school but it never felt enough. I felt like my mom was never happy even though I was doing well. Typing it out/venting is a very good first step. I need to learn how to be more open with myself and others around me. I have to stop bottling everything and put on a show that everything's alright when it's not. I've never told anyone about my trauma. I'll seek help from therapy. I need some guidance on what to do to improve. I need people to help guide me. For those that feel the same as me or suffering from the same thing. We got this. We'll take our lives back from gaming.

I suffer from SGAD, Severe Generalised Anxiety Disorder. I am under medication and psychiatric monitoring. After 15 years of playing my last video game, I am again at it on my PC. For the last 10 days I have been installing and uninstalling the same game and pray to God so that I can do other stuff which needs attention. The graphics of the game astounds me. This problem makes me anxious. I have other hobbies which I love to do but the game seems to have a spell on me. I play 2 hours every day and in those two hours, I can do a lot of things done. It's insane. You know you have a backlog of work and you waste your time in a silly game. On Friday I will be 55 years old. I thought young people had this problem. I can end this by closing the account of the game company and continue with my life as before. Thank you for your video.

If you enjoy the game then play it. 2 hours of a day to enjoy something is harmless. There are many people that wake up, start their video game, and then the sun goes down and they realize they haven't even eaten yet and they've been playing for 10 or more hours without realizing it. It is subjective to the individual and if you feel like 2 hours a day is problematic for you then it is. But generally speaking, 2 hours a day is extremely healthy and normal.

I’ve been playing this video game for probably at least 4 years now. Throughout lockdown, everyday I come home from school, weekends and any spare time I have. And I’ve watched this video and a couple others, I felt it was a wake-up call for me because I really want to get rid of this obsession but I don’t know why I keep going back to the game. But when I thought thoroughly through, I found out most the time it’s because I don’t want to do work or anything productive which involves laziness. I wanted to play video games day-in and day-out, but now that’d kept in mind I am going to limit the time I’m spending on that video game and get my life together. I really appreciate this video even though I found this YEARS later.❤️❤️

I have tried putting my consoles in my closet multiple times and honestly it never worked because they were so easy to reach for to plug back into my tv to continue playing them as my life passes by me like a quick breeze of leaves. I really wanted to get a PlayStation, an xBox, any console, but as I am a minor, my couldn't afford this much for a game. Then I used to think that they were wrong, and used the internet to state that 90% of children under 18 have consoles, then why I don't? But your video has actually affected me, and now I can say those 90% are those people who manage to get a simple or poor life, and those 10% are those few who go beyond the limits to get recognized by everyone, and now it seems with my life ahead me that perhaps I can buy myself a PlayStation anytime after I get a job :)

I am cramming for exams right now and recently, I have been facing the urge to get back into video games, so I tried to search what can I do to stop my addiction. I came across your video and realized all I needed was some motivation, and a reminder why am I pushing myself to the limits ? why am I trying so hard to stop my video game addiction ? To think that I managed to keep my sanity for 6 whole months is an amazing achievement in itself imo. I guess I will go back to studying, I just need a little motivation and a reminder. THANK YOU !

I know this video is 4 years old now but I've just started the process of quitting gaming. I had started when I was about 3 playing frogger for the first time at my baby sitters house, from there it went to the NES when my parents bought one for me and my brother. We got an SNES and thats when I truly couldnt stop playing. Every weekend it was rent a game for the weekend so I didnt go out and get into trouble with friends etc but it also saved my parents a ton of money because I didnt want to play sports anymore or do anything else. In my teenage years my parents were fighting and working a lot so this was my way out of stress and this is where I truly needed it. I learned what I needed to take care of myself and just did good enough in school to not get grounded. From there I joined the Army at 21 and my addiction was broken for 10 weeks. The bad part was I finally had enough money to build my dream gaming pc. So I did. 16 years later and I build a pc almost every other year so I can play the greatest games at the best framerates and highest resolutions. I calculated it out and just my steam account, the games I bought from 20+ and then the computers + consoles I've bought. I've spent over $170k on videogames and computer parts in the past 20 or so years, with nothing to show for it. I've lost relationships, friendships, failed out of college twice, neglected myself, my room was always a mess but I just had to experience it all. So now my life is finally starting at nearly 40.

18M. I have had a gaming addiction for most of my life, it’s not very serious until recent and I see myself staying up UNTIL 4am still on it. I do feel worried that I won’t be able to cook or even drive because I won’t take the time to look into it, I hardly ever buy myself clothes but I am going to change. A plan I have is to restrict games past a certain time & revolve my life less around games and how much time I’ll have to play. I’m not going to disallow myself to use social media but I’m going to try to change my feed to be more productive & unrelated to games if not, I’ll make a new account. I’m glad I’m realising this still before having to make any more major choices in my life and I’m going to change, and you can take that to the bank!

I want to talk to my older brother about his VG addiction. I don’t know where to start- it’s obvious it has ruined his like this far. The plan is to approach with compassion and start an open conversation. I’m not sure what questions to start with. He will build a wall because of the shame he feels if I say the wrong things to begin with. There needs to also be persuading- I don’t think he wants to change, although the video games are obviously a coping mechanism he has used for most of his life. He doesn’t leave his room anymore either. I want to ask him what the appeal is. I want him to know how this has affected our family, is affecting his life, and will impact his future.

How old is he? I’m currently 18 and have been struggling with gaming addiction throughout my teens Unfortunately and frustrating as it must be for family members it is ultimately down to the individual to overcome an addiction. That doesn’t mean family cannot help, in fact they definitely can. I certainly know my mum has struggled immensely watching me waste my life away, but she was very supportive and encouraging and never lost hope, that is the key, to have hope that things will get better. I suggest trying to help him reignite any other passions he has had. To quit gaming you need to occupy yourself with activities so you do not get bored. When you are bored the automatic thing the brain wants to do is game. It’s almost like a time filler. I suggest asking questions like do you enjoy gaming? because for addicts it is no longer really enjoyable more just a way of life. Does gaming make you happy? Finally I would suggest trying to connect with others who may have a family members with gaming addictions. There are some good groups to join. My mum really really benefitted from talking to others with similar problems. If you’d like to ask any questions to me I’m happy help. Just message me.

Hi, I am 13 year old kid addicted to a game called critical ops whole year i was like in a artificial world of critical ops.the first month of downloading it was fun but as the time passes the addiction increases and i was working hard to collect coins in the game to buy the royal pass and when i bought it i realise that the time spend by me is much more than the value of the royal pass in the game but when you buy the Royal pass you will feel happy because you have worked hard for it. This is the common thing of a human being if we work hard for something and achieve it we feel happy but in the game i realise that the royal pass is useless for me. It does not profit me.when i calculated my total time spent on the game from last one year i was shocked it was 523 hours. I was shocked when i calculated these 523hours to days. It was 22days. I was feeling sorry for myself when i realise i was continously playing game 22days. I have gone to my uncle house and the brother of my mother who was a genius person who got 98percentage in 10th told me he has also struggled from same condition and he told he was the one of the best player of the game and his account was the best account of the game. And he told me he was selling his account but he was shocked whem he found that his 10years hard work on his gaming account is only for maximum 30k rupees. He was continously crying for hours when he found his hard work is no worth.I learned a lesson from him and i just destroyed my so rare account because i understood it is the right time to become human again. Guys i request to you all please dont play games which are competitive and online games. Kindly dont spoil your life. If you work hard on studies and get job u can earn lakhs in a month without wasting time on games for 30k for 10years Note:you will feel sad after destroying you rare account in game But, that deletion will definitely make your bright future.. :) = 📵 Thank you dear keshav sir ♥️

That's what I needed. Stop reading my mind, Keshav Bhatt! :) My rule is simple and helpful I play only on Friday and Saturday just to relax. But I will try to avoid getting distracted. :) Also there is something I need to ask you about my concentrate, but I guess it will be in the next video. Thanks!

seasonal depression meets covid solitude, been playing co-op games for socialization. It always starts with watching one youtube videos about a game, then I'll say I'll play for just a little, then three days later I'm stuck in a cycle of waking up at 11am, tired, no energy so I play games until 2-4am, repeat. This has been a behavior throughout my life, my parents always put me infront of the tv or computer as their form of parenting, and now that I am 34, I have to battle it in order to be an adult and achieve any level of success in life.

This is one of the channels that gave me the courage to start my KZbin channel 7 months ago about self development. Now I have 608 subs and > 100 hours of watch time. I know it’s not comparable with others but I’m still proud I started because I’ve been learning so many lessons that I could haven’t learned without getting started in the 1st place.

Extra tips that helped me: fill the empty time that gaming left with productive activities, keep a watch to know how much you played, so you can stop after (in my case) two hours, also, the best way to stop doing something, is not doing it, NOT punishing yourself

3 games left. I’ve been steering away from them for a long time. But after these last three the systems are all going deep into my attic in containers and not coming out again unless a legitimately amazing game comes out I want to play. Which the likelihood of that is little to non in the years to come.

I have started playing this computer game called "Metal Gear Solid 5 The Phantom Pain" on my cousin's PC.. I have been playing it for 6 months now.. I spend about like 3 hours every day.. Well, I am in class 11 right now and the thing that I have found out is that the addiction has become so strong that I am now emotionally attached to this game.. Knowing about the fact that my cousin would delete the game when he arrives, it makes me weep sometimes in the corner of my room.. I know that it is definitely not good for me and has pretty adversely affected my academics.. It is unhealthy both physically and mentally.. but still I can't resist the urge.. It feels like as if I have raised a child who is going to pass away some day..

I've been playing ML on and off for the past 7 years, but it's gotten worse for the last 3 years. I've tried to quit multiple times by deleting the game, but seeing friends play always triggered me. It could be because I have status and skill in the game and playing gives me the dopamine from winning. The positive thing that I pursue from continuing to play is the relief of boredom and as a way to escape reality, the stress and anxiety from school and work. To fix this, whenever I'm feeling bored I'll practice playing the guitar and piano. I'll replace this unproductive habit with productive ones. I realize that this habit is detrimental to my future, I have to push past this addiction for my future self, my future wife, and my future kids. This addiction prevents me from working on myself, it keeps me away from building a strong relationship with god. I will work through this and push so that I can retire my parents and give them a fulfilling life while they are still alive. I need to do this to so we can take vacations to our home country and fulfill their humble dreams of having a farm. .

This is an older video, but I’m going to really work to apply this. I’m savagely addicted to an MMO, and after watching this video, I froze the account. I have several channels to unsubscribe to, and the amount of money I’ve dumped into an experience that may be deleted in a decade fills me with so much anxiety. But I have the power to stop and use my time and money for something so much better. So I’m going to do that. I will.

I used to love care and protect my little brother all the time and i would play with him all the time at home and school and make him feel like he is not alone because i was always there for him but when i got introduced to video games then when he came into my room i shouted at him and told him to get out and he is very confused and upset. He is still always wanting to play with me but i don' let him and i havent had fun with him for a long time and now my mum has told me about it i have realised that he needs me,he cries at school every single day because he can't see me and i have no feelings about it and he is still trying to be there for me and make me feel like i am not alone but then i think that he must feel really alone and upset now that i have stopped caring for him. i am getting older now so i dont have much more time until he is fully grown up and does not need caring for so i need to make the most of it. I AM QUITTING VIDEO GAMES AND PUTTING MY PS4 SOMEWHERE UNDERNEATH MY BED WITH EVERYTHING COVERING IT.

I am very addicted to Roblox, specifically adopt me, and I really want to get rid of the addiction, because I know it’s not good for my eyes, and just a few days ago I got really upset over it and I am still upset, so I don’t want a game to upset me just like that so easily. Idk, it feels like real life to me in adopt me, but I really want to get rid of that addiction, because life is short, and I want to spend more time with the people I love, my friends, my family, other than spending my time on a game. Thank Keshav, it helped a lot.

Thank you. Really thank you. I will try to follow this steps. I'm playing a game that has been shitting on my life since I started playing bakc in september, I lost the term and I should have been studying since new years for my exams but i have studied nothing, because I keep not only procastinating but i play that game everyday (around 2-3 hrs which isnt a lot but I do that instead of my responsabilities which is a problem I recognize) So I'll try this. I don't wanna uninstall that game, It hurts because I enjoy it so much, I don't know if I should be worried about it. But I will try to discipline myself, to do other things. I'm an artist and i had also stopped creating that much since I spend my day watching videos or playing the game instead of doing it. i will try to have daily goals before playing. Not to harsh on myself but to have them. I have always struggled with very hard obsessions with anything (games, shows, etc) but it had never affected my daily life. I guess because i'm a newly adult and even though i had the obsessions as a teen i had responsabilities i was supervised to do. but now everything is on myself and it sucks... I have no control and i hate this sm I want to change.

Thank you so much, I'm trying to quit gaming overall, too much negative energy, I've gave my pc to my dad as a donation for his dental clinic, bought a laptop and peer pressure made me play 3 hours, just selling my headphones to get beats and along ps4. Probably going to record and see if I'm right then setup rules and slowly quit. I'll begin with playing basketball ans swimming as I used to do since a child. Subbed, much love bro, learned new things!

You know it's an addiction when it just takes over all your passions. I can't even do basic tasks at this point it's embarrassing.
