Remembering a local man whistling like a bird to this in a concert celebrating the end of W.W.2. Nostalgic memories. Thank you.

This was a favourite of my grandfather. I used to play it on the piano for him. That was in the 1950s. A long time ago.

Very nice visual accompaniment! Special thanks for your phenomenal efforts in posting so many fine old and forgotten recordings, violin and more. Bravo!

Thank you very much. Much of the praise needs to go to those who transfer these recordings from 78s. They pay good money for the discs, spend time joining the sides together, and doing small amounts of cleaning up the sound. I have recently gotten the majority of material from Rolf's blog emanating from the Netherlands. Over the years, I have found material from many different sources. Because of a bicycle wreck in 2000, which left me a quadriplegic, I went from playing the violin to collecting recordings. I now have about 7 weeks worth of recordings, mostly classical, but including a large quantity of mostly 30s jazz, some recordings of groups I know personally or played in, classic rock, and various other things, including an album of a Mongolian group. I enjoy finding (usually) appropriate pictures for videos, but everything in my life is getting harder and eventually I will be doing uploads with one picture and very little information. Thank you for listening.

2ndviolinist Your tagline of 2ndviolinist has caught my eye since I began listening to your posts. I played 2nd violin with the Beloit Janesville Symphony (WI) for 35 years and played with many area groups as well. We moved about 100 miles to a very pretty area near Baraboo (WI), ending the musical aspect that had been part of my life for over 50 years. We also bike extensively and are just a couple miles from the 400 trail, part of the seminal 'rails-to-trails' that are best known for the nearby and contiguous Elroy-Sparta. Efforts are progressing quite nicely to connect Baraboo to Sauk City and a bridge across the Wisconsin river that will provide a bike trail from the Mississippi at Trempealeau north of La Crosse to Waukesha, west of Milwaukee. Thanks for taking the time to respond - and again thanks for the efforts to provide these wonderful recordings. KZbin has exposed a new world for me - and I once thought that I was fairly musically savvy.

I don't usually like the sound of a contralto voice, but this gave me goosebumps.
@2ndviolinist6 жыл бұрын
How many contraltos have you heard that were recorded in the 1st 25-30 years of the 20th century? There were numerous great ones. I am glad you enjoyed it and thank you for listening.

Have to admit, not many, probably because I was avoiding them. Some sounded more basso profundo to me, but her voice is sweet. I did enjoy it mostly becaue I love Ketelbey's music.

@@petertaylor3600How can Nellie be short for Helen?
@petertaylor36006 жыл бұрын
Because it is, or rather was when Nellie was fashionable. It's Nell or Nellie and it's an endearment of Helen. It's true, cross my heart.
