"The language is always evolving," says Haida language apprentice, Linda Schrack, "which means we have to coin new words for things that our ancestors didn't have." A few years ago, one of Schrack's language mentors, Erma Lawrence, made up a word for computer: gudáay gín 'wáadluwaan an únsad, which, literally translated means "the box that knows everything."
