Better Having gained 60 pounds after my hysterectomy and struggled with hot flashes no matter what we did medically, I had panic attacks, chronic bladder infections, and was diagnosed with fibromyalgia. I cannot fully explain all the suffering I endured before starting first keto, then the carnivore diet with intermittent fasting. What joy to feel better! I cannot get dressed without practically leaping for joy! To be thin and strong and healthy is a thrill that never gets old! After my success, with great fear and trembling, we started my type-1 diabetic husband on the keto diet and later carnivore. We did exactly the OPPOSITE of what his doctors and nutritionists told him to do! He’s also lost 60 pounds, and he’s “awake“ for his life instead of walking around asleep and dying. I could have lost him! I am enraged at our medical system for leaving us in the dark for over 40 years! When I think of how much medicine we have purchased! When I think of how much suffering we have both endured! It is criminal. Thank you for gathering and sharing this valuable information!

I love how she mentioned that the harder she tried at “eat less, move more” the more weight she slowly gained, and how the standard advice helped a total of 2 patients lose weight in over 20 years and 1 gained it back, and how on the other hand 17 out of 18 patients that she had lost weight on keto. So for that 1 person the standard advice may have been the better way to go, but for that 17 out of 18, low carb was more effective. Scientists may not understand all the mechanisms of why this works for many people, though apparently not all people, but I’d encourage you to prioritize salvaging your quality of life instead of letting the CICO crowd discourage you while trying to prove that they’re “right”. Years can be wasted and you’re life can be passed by while they’re waiting to learn the precise mechanisms and for them to be able to prove that they’re right. My only concern is whether it works for me, and you don’t have to argue them down in order to try it for yourself if the standard advice has failed for you.

Insulin is the anabolic hormone. It's there to store energy and mass. It makes sense that "stomach stuffers" like fiber, saturated fat, resistant starch, and no-insulin boosting foods that catabolizing fats becomes much easier. Less appetite and frequency of wanting to eat leads to less eating.

I have never stick with something so passionately and easily, it makes fasting also so much easier and I an growing muscles as crazy. I didn’t do it even during many years while going to gym and now I ams just seeing my veins coming out and more more muscular. I feel sooo good and so light!! We are at 2 years Carnivore diet (for me) and 1 1/2 years (for my Type 1 diabetic hubby). He told me yesterday, “My sugar was SO high this morning! It was 199!” That indeed WAS high for him now, but I celebrated remembering his yo-yo swings from the 40’s up to 500+ and back down and up again ALL the time!!! His insulin use is down by 2/3’s or 1/2 depending on the day! (Poor Big Pharma.) His energy is way up! We are both the right weight! I don’t go to sleep at night wondering if he is still going to be here in the morning! Yes, one day one of us will die, but it won’t be because his diabetes was out of control! Lifestyle changes made a huge difference for us and YT Videos like this one changed our world!!!

hmm 48:00 I agree, the GP's here wont let go of the high cholesterol part, it is so entrenched. Our doctors here in Australia are petrified of saturated fats because of this, and will not support what I'm doing. Also after watching Michael Mosely's latest show on Australian TV the last 3 weeks, he is singing the praises of low carb, but he is still saying that obesity is a cause of diabetes, and not a symptom of metabolic disease. He says if they do this low carb, low cal diet, they will lose weight and control their blood sugar. But I know from experience what low carb AND low cal will do to someone's metabolism. I worry about the chances of them going into starvation mode and a VERY high chance of them regaining the weight in a couple years. For some reason he didn't introduce intermittent fasting to them, even though that's his thing, and I"m sure he included it to control his own diabetes. He really didn't discuss cholesterol either, so he is still hanging on to it, I believe that is what his low calorie is about. Also he didn't mention the increase in diabetes with the people in japan or other Asian countries, he just said world wide, but they are something special if they don't have the weight increase the other parts of the world do, or why their rice based diets are suddenly causing them grief with insulin resistance.

I reversed my T2 diabetes with very low carb (a1c now 5.2 without any meds for past two years). Lowered BMI from 43 to 31 but have now been on weight loss plateau for over a year. I’ve never been as low as 20g carbs (more like 45g net carbs or even a bit more but only from low carb veg ie not processed food). Is the only way to lose the rest of the weight by going down to 20g carbs? I really struggle when I only get a tiny amount of veggies...

If you want better data, I recommend measuring ketones. People in ketosis have much less cravings than people not in ketosis. Just because someone is on a so-called "keto" diet, they may not be in ketosis and therefore not on a real keto diet. If they produce measurable ketones then they are on a keto diet. Knowing whether or not they are in ketosis it will provide a lot higher quality data. I think you will find that the people that are not in ketosis will not stick to the diet as long as people in ketosis.

I'm skeptical of what this Dr. is saying. Her own weight came off "miraculously" after trying keto. Her hunger went away and her cravings stopped. Why? That's how our bodies work. Insulin drives hunger and cravings. I had the same great experience with keto. What I don't understand is why she turns around and puts her patients on life-long drugs. If she wants to know why people are quitting her practice, I'd say to her that the never-ending pill cycle is at the heart of it. That, and being told you're too weak-minded to do this on your own so we'll be meeting monthly for the rest of your life! No one wants that.
