Love this. My sister was at her Doctors the other day and when she said that she was feeling a little anxious about something that was going on the first thing the Dr. said was we could put you on medication. Didn't talk about her diet, how much sleep she's getting or anything else that might be going on just immediately went to drugs. It's sad that so much of health care runs on pharmaceuticals.

@@stephen3511 I think I cant trust "doctors" anymore unless I need a sick note for a simple cold. In my view "doctors" killed my dad and almost killed my mom because the "doctor" just subscribed some sh1t ("doctor" also was a long time family friend) even though she needed treatment on the level of ER which she got in the end but... I just remembered she (that "doctor") immediatly put me on medication when I said I felt depressed. This was years ago. My reaction to the first pill was...lets just say extremely negative. Btw. I confess that I stopped Keto for 2-3 weeks and now I am feeling all down depressed, anxious and powerless. Tomorrow I will start the journey to a better life. Thanks for reading and have a great year everybody. Edit: Dont tell Dr. Berg

In 7/2017 I was in a severe depression. for 45 years I had ptsd and lupus and I lost my boyfriend to cancer 7 months before this point. After pushing myself too hard in a high stress career my body literally knocked me off my feet and I could barely function. My GP and Shrink had me on meds for years. When I stumbled onto Dr. Berg's videos one night I knew I had to try keto/if the very next day. Within a week I was feeling better emotionally, after one month I was feeling like a new person and by the end of the second month I was able to taper off my meds. It literally stopped me from throwing in the towel.

I have struggled with depression for years. I find that if I eat a cleaner diet overall it helps reduce my episodes. If I cheat and eat a big McDonald's meal or alot of pizza the crash sometimes puts me in a funky mood that can lead to a depression episode. Stay healthy out there.

I can second this experience! I find I crave sugar when I begin to spiral...if I can hold off on the sugar, the downward spiral either reverses or is a lot less deep and goes away much faster. When the bad thoughts of depression come, and I’m trying to strengthen new thought patterns by recognizing the lies depression is telling me and finding what is true to think about instead, it’s much easier to do this if I haven’t been consuming sugar. It’s waaaay harder if I’ve gone and had brownies and pie.

I've heard that eating gluten can affect the mood and worsen anxiety (there are studies on this plus gluten-free diet for autistic children), so I've tried it and noticed that my anxiety reduces greatly if I don't eat gluten products. Speaking of fasting, can't say that it helped me so far with anxiety, but I'll definitely keep fasting. At least my anxiety/depression doesn't get worse and other health benefits are just great!

I absolutely love watching Dr. Berg daily while I eat my OMAD. Right now I'm eating avocado mashed with bell pepper, fresh garlic, salt, & pepper. That's all for today, plus a lemon this morning, wheatgrass juice, electrolytes, cruciferous tablets, coffee, ACV, and MCT oil. Today is 33 days since I found your channel, and the difference to my life is incredible. Before I found you, I used to cry for hours daily, depressed most of my life, nauseous daily, stressed, anxious, irritable, and the list of mood disorders goes on. Since I switched to a healthy high fat, some protein, and almost ZERO carbs (your "keto on steroids" version), not only am I free of mood issues, but my brain function has increased dramatically. I'm autistic (Asperger's), and my typical autistic struggles have decreased so much that even my social skills have greatly improved. Thank you, as always, with all my heart. You saved my life.

Keto for close to 3 years. Typically upbeat mood. In the past year, I had let a few ‘not the best’ ingredients in, and I definitely had a few times where I indulged in sugar. The ups and downs associated with allowing sugar in is tangible. After the last time (July 4th) I had sugar, I decided NEVER AGAIN. The fact that what we eat is linked to every aspect of our physiology is undeniable.

What I have learned from reading all these comments and watching the videos are most children with ASD and ADHD live on high carb diets due to food aversion and sensory processing issues. There is definitely a link. I have 2 children with ASD and ADHD and their diet is a worry. They have sensory processing disorder and food is a real fear for them. They stick to safe foods which are bland beige and full of carbs, no goodness at all. And yes I have tried everything, the dietitian has, the therpists have. It's not a parenting issue its a real issue. And a real worry. Being around kids with asd other than my kids I found that they all live on the same sort of save foods. If I could change their diet I know their symptoms would ease , if only It was that easy.

My thinking became faster, i could see clear answers, even my perception of colours and shapes became vivid. As i’m looking for answers, it all becomes clear, I don’t have ADHD, it was my body all along telling me that, what i was putting in my mouth, wasn’t what it needed… i will keep on digging and researching the holistic lifestyle, all is connected, find balance in body, mind and soul. Start with fasting, but start gradually. Don't immediately go 24hrs with no food, try 14-16hrs first. Then slowly reduce carbs in your diet. There are loads of great videos out there to help. Good luck!

Lilian, could you set a goal of a month instead of only 4 days. If you cut out carbs it can take about 2 weeks to adjust but you will adjust. Our bodies really do prefer healthy foods. If you eat three meals a day to start don’t have any snacks in between. Then if you go to two meals and put those eating times about 4 hours apart and make sure you have plenty of fats like meat, avocados, eat lots of green leafy vegetables 🥬, healthy oils like extra-virgin olive oil, avocado oil, and coconut oil, these will help you to not feel hungry in between your meals. Honestly it’s done amazing things in so many lives including my own. Dr Berg does have a beginner video also. I hope you do well.

@@testdep I agree gluten is so bad and on top of everything bad about gluten it’s an inflammatory. My doctor even told me to stop gluten free stuff too. I had gotten a concussion about a month back and did some research on foods that will help you recover from a concussion and the article I found said flavonoids help produce new brain cells so I started making sure I ate those foods a bit more, those foods are extra-virgin olive oil, dark chocolate at least 70% coco (but I use cacao instead), green tea, pecans, broccoli, fatty fish (mackerel, salmon, and sardines) and blueberries (although blueberries are high in carbs so I’m careful). These foods have helped me a great deal, because I was feel dizzy and a bit depressed with the concussion and now I’m not. So maybe do some research about foods that help the mind. I also use MCT oil (it’s from coconut) which is brain food. I hope this might help, this is not medical advise, just somethings that have helped me through a tough time.

@@Magar6 Hi Magar6, (it is I from the previous commment "Thomas Hughes") Let me see if I understand what you are saying. I understand that you are skeptical about my "achievable/sustainable" results on "keto adn IF". I think what you are saying is that I was able to pull this off for 90 days, but after eight months, how are you doing? Do I have that correct? In fact, when you are finished reading, I would like to know "how you knew" that it wouldn't work if you please. I would be interested to know why you are skeptical. Thanks! As you will see in my vlog, my results were quite successful and consistent with a ketogenic and intermittent fasting lifestyle, which I maintain to this date (23 Apr 2022). Since I wouldn't expect your watching these several videos over the last 11 months (although you may verify all of the following information by doing so), I will lay down some bullet points for you: * I lost 26 kilos after the transition from a "DASH"-styled diet to "Keto" - "Ketovore" - "Carnivore" (since these terms have become overused, let's say "low-carb/high-fat" (for me, that would be fewer than 25g maximum carbs daily average). * I have reversed my Type II Diabetes * I have eliminated my "Syndrome X" * I sleep through the night * I have become completely "emotionally" stable. I was known to have like my grandfather, a "Beethoven-esque tempestuous temperment" - GONE! * I eat between 1 and 2 meals daily depending on my workload and other "forces of life" * I eat till I am "comfortably stuffed" at every meal. (i.e., I am never hungry) * If I hadn't been able to eat at some time (this has occured more than a few times), I could easily forego my meal till later or even the next day * I did no "formal" exercise during the first 8 months if memory serves me well - on purpose - because I wanted to see if the claims of "eat-less-do-more" were fallible * I never take naps anymore. I am up at dawn, and retire about 10-ish * Today, I exercise on Mondays and Thursdays for a total of about 10 minutes per those two days, i.e., 20 minutes MAX per week. I am up to 200+ pushups a week, and I do some HIIT on stairs. * Just some metrics: BP: ~100/55; resting heartrate: 52; well-marked heartrate variability; Waist-to-height ratio (over bellybutton) is 0.51 (today I measured just for you and our audience) * My brain and reflexes (and weight) are equal to if not better than when I was in the USCG in my early 20's. I am exactly 55 & 6/12 years old today (23 Apr 2022). &c ... This is getting boring and too long to mention everything; however, if you or anyone else has any questions, I shall be glad to answer them. I am still low-carb/high-fat; I still maintain my metrics; I have no problems eating everything low-carb, especially living in Mexico where most of the food minus the tortillas, rice, "fruit", and beans is stellarly ketogenic! So, please tell me "how you knew" that I was going to fail by eating meats, salads, soups, salsas, &c. P.S. Between you and me, let me better tell you the only things I had to give up to get here: sugar, grains, seed oils, and packaged "food products". Believe it or not, I was "ALMOST" keto when I started. I had to pretty much give up my cola, tortillas, beans, and rice, which were no biggies when I found that eating a pound and a half of steak would fill me up for a day or two. Let me know how you "knew" ... be well!

So, guys, Magar6 wanted to know if "keto and IF [were] actually achievable/sustainable". His quote: "Hi Thomas Hughes. Thanks for your comment. But that was 8 months ago. Was keto and IF actually achievable/sustainable? (Let me guess: It wasn't! How did I know!) :)" I answered him back, and he sadly didn't respond to fact that it absolutely "worked". It had to assuming I had hormones. What he didn't answer was the "How did I know? [that keto and IF wasn't [sic] achievable/sustainable]" Because there are those people who will try to make you lose hope. They will - even politely or well-meaning - try to keep you "healthy" by maintaining the Std. American Diet. They will tell you that all you have to do is "eat less and do more", and if you cannot, you must be a glutton or have zero will power. This idea permeates the American/Western World genre of movies, TV, and even KZbin. Trust Dr. Berg that he knows what he's doing. I have tested his data/teachings/techniques on several of my health issues, and they have ALL worked without the first chemical medicine. There is an adjustment period - a "mean" honeymoon of sorts - to rework 50 years of very poor health. The great thing is that (place your deity here) has worked this out that the "payment" is 3 - 4 days of adjustment, and about a year or so to recover. Considering the abuse the body has taken for decades, this is an excellent return on your investment. The BEST part is that once you keep doing what you're doing, your body will continue to hum along like a well-tuned heat engine (which is what the body is, in fact). I love how I feel! P.S. Dear Magar6, Yesterday, I "pigged out"!; for example, I ate two-10-inch pizzas, birria (estilo mexicano), a few pieces of chicharrón, four eggs scrambled in two tbsp of butter, and ice cream for desert. I eat only one meal a day ("OMAD"), so my carb count was estimated at about 50g, which for the amount of food I ate came to roughly 8% of my macros from carbs. Since I am completely renewed, I can, and sometimes do bump up my carb level from 5 to even close to 10 percent as I am mostly carnivore with a salad tossed in as Dr. Berg recommends. So, tell me again how I have managed to eat till I was "comfortably stuffed", hasn't gained an ounce overnight, slept like a baby, never get hungry, don't need to snack, don't take naps anymore, reversed all of my health issues at age 55 isn't "achievable/sustainable" again, please ... I am still waiting for your answer about your _GUESS_ "how you KNEW" that this wasn't going to work ... _I AM ALL EARS!_ Be well!

So, my good buddy "Magar6" has decided to change the tone of the "Ask him how he knew my Healthy Keto/IF wasn't achievable/sustainable" ... here's his latest comment: "Magar6 Thomas Hughes Hi Thomas. That's all good and well, but please kindly consider (a) the liver damage which you are causing to yourself because of the huge quantity of meat in your diet; and (b) dangerously unhealthy cholesterol levels." Dr. Berg has videos on both of these topics, Magar6, and it would be a great idea for you to do a wee bit better research before "you know so much about acheiving and sustaining 'Healthy Keto'", don't you think? Ladies and Gentlemen, you needn't listen to this person because sadly, he hasn't a clue about what he's talking about. Since he obviously hasn't done his research, he's not worth a response asking him once again to demonstrate how eating meat will cause "NAFLD" for example. Follow Dr. Berg as I have done in his myriad videos, and this "health thing" is in the bag! I will always quote Dr. Berg, "Do not lose weight to get healthy; get healthy to lose weight". May this be the end of this thread where "Magar6" is concerned, thank you very much. Be well!

I have to be honest, my sleep is terrible while in Ketogenic diet. It gets so bad (I feel like I'm dreaming the whole night. Non stop anxious thoughts) that it affects the rest of my day. Even after a couple of months. I'm not overweight, i have no diabetes, I don't drink coffee, and I'm not stressed during the day. I take long walks have big salads, moderate amount of protein. I used tryptophan and other kinds of remedies with no success. But when I get at least 300g of carbs at the second part of the day, I sleep much better and my mood is much better. So ketogenic diet does not affect everyone the same way.

I am roughly 8 days into keto diet. I am also a pescatarian vegetarian. I am not really a cheese person so this diet has been hard for me. I feel really depressed. Sad , head hurts, constantly thinking about things. Over analyzing things. I struggle with soda drinks so I bought zevia instead to help me . I mostly eat 4 eggs in the morning a rock star no sugar silver then wait till lunch and have fish and broccoli and some sharp cheddar. Dinner green beans fresh and garden salad plain made wild salmon

I can personally vouch for antidepressants being difficult to cease, particularly the SSRI/SNRI classes. Well documented beyond anecdotes, no point just taking my word for it, read the studies yourself.

I've often used Keto as a home made antidepressant. Whenever I'm in a rut, I cut the carbs. Its wild, soon as ketosis hits, the self-defeating thoughts fade away. The need for caffeine to Kickstart my brain goes away and thus my anxiety goes down. I've been thinking recently, why the hell do I teeter back and forth? May as well just stick with what works best for me.

Yes. It also helps to have enough nutrients. Like enough b1 as benfotiamine, enough electrolytes (especially 4700mg of potassium a day), other vitamins Bs, enough d3&k2, enough sleep, Omega3, ect. Have you checked Dr Berg's videos on these?

Have you checked Dr Berg's videos on how to fast in a healthy way? If one fasts without enough nutrients, it becomes starvation. In order to avoid stress, it's important to have enough b1 benfotiamine, enough electrolytes (especially 4700mg of potassium potassium), enough vitamin Bs (through nutritional yeast), enough d3&k2 and Omega3 at least.

@@edithkelley6739 it can be tough when you get injuries, but you can do it. I fell, but not as bad as you. I did a faceplant on my bike. It was a stupid accident, lol. Got a concussion. I did some research to figure out what would help the brain to heal, flavonoids - they help grow new brain cells. Hmm 🤔, just take one day at a time. You’ll get there. For me prayer helps tremendously.

I was always fit and skinny, could eat whatever/how much I want, this already started to change a bit a few years ago. (didnt have the easiest youth and not the happiest person, but grateful for life) Last December I fell from my bike and got a serious concussion, my whole life changed and I couldn't do or think the way I was used to. Started looking for every option helping my brain to heal (not easy when your head feels like a broken computer haha). And after 1 month of not exercising because of the headaches, and snacking to pass the time in this personal hell. I went from 55kg to 67kg and got even more depressed. Than I found Dr Berg! Struggled a bit on giving up things like (dried) fruit and some veggies, but after a while got used to it, and transitioned into OMAD and almost vegan healthy keto (still eat eggs every other day and occasional quality meat/cheese) I started feeling so much better, less headaches, more energy, happy, less down/grumpy when on period, lost all the weight I gained! No more bloated belly! better sleep, and so on. I still think its not that easy around family and friends who are all so used to eating carbs and sugar, but I have cheated a couple of times, and I always feel like crap afterwards, so, thank you Dr Berg! You have made my recovery and quality of life in general so much better!

This so untrue. I know several people who couldn’t sustain keto because it caused them to want to binge, become obsessed with food, and they became very tired and irritable (even with potassium and magnesium supplements). I agree that IF you can persevere, it can improve those feelings, but that’s a lot to ask when people are trying to get through each day with busy and often stressful lives.

Those studies with mice would be as useful as an ashtray on a motorcycle! There’s a direct result between some medications and depression. Intermittent fasting does work. It makes sense, junk food is not good for your brain. Green therapy lifts mood. Great video.

I do have legitimate mental health issues that are tied to childhood trauma and abuse. But I also know that when I am in ketosis I feel a lot better. Right now I've fallen off of keto and gotten into really bad bingeing. I'm terrified to step on the scale. But I don't have to step on the scale to know that I've gained back possibly more weight than I lost. My problem is that the first 2 weeks of being back on keto I feel WORSE before I start feeling better.
