Ketsui World Record Interview with Moglar5K, Featuring Jaimers! Earlier this year a speedrunning content creator, fireb0rn, made a video about Moglar5k being a speedrunning child prodigy and changing how Hollow Knight's speedrun is played. After Hollow Knight and speedrunning, Moglar5k then proceeded deep into the arcade genre of shoot em' ups (shump) and after years of practice, innovation, and grinding, broke the World Record for one of the best and most challenging shmups ever made, Ketsui. Moglar5k is one of the most talented gamer I have ever seen and one of the very few non-Japanese players to hold a world record in a CAVE game, especially a game like Ketsui which has an insane scoring history that has been pushed by the greatest players of all time. In today's interview, Jaimers (another very accomplished shmup player), Moglar, and myself discuss Ketsui as a scoring game and go over Moglar's amazing rise from fresh new face a few years ago, to one of the greatest shmups players active right now.
Also, if you want more history on Moglar's journey, there is another episode of the podcast from a few years ago where he, Kiwi, and myself talk about talent in the genre:

Just finished watching your Ketsui Saga (bit late on that, I know :P) with Moglar, having just been inducted into the 500mil club, being in chat all the time and now I find out he got a WR (and almost 600mil) since then. Just awesome. Also, as always, great to "see" Jaimers. Much love!

The whole flying to japan to officially confirm your high score on an arcade sounds kinda dope lol. Like the end of the journey, or final boss sounding type of thing. But I do understand while it sounds dope af, not many people have that kind of money, especially in something as niche as high score chasing

no kidding, imagine how cool it would be to set the world record for a shmup in an arcade in front of the japanese players :-D

i've been reading the CAVE interviews at shmuplations, so this is fresh in my brain. One of the possible reasons Ketsui might seem different and the patterns having a different flavor is the fact that its less a Tsuneki Ikeda game, while Takashi Ichimura played a much bigger part on it. Also i really like the pre-rendered 3d style of Daioujou and Ketsui. I wonder how long till indie games start to pick up on that and try some things in that style.

Moglar, GG! That's insane! I wish I had the time to sit down and figure out a route on a Cave bullet hell. Other shmups I can think of with a "lock-on" system would be Ray Crisis. Star Fox 2 had one as well but it was so broken that Nintendo took it out for the SNES Classic Edition. I have Star Fox 2 on a repro that has the old ROM and that "lock-on" system on that game is broken. To give you an idea of how broken it is, I actually beat regular difficulty the first time I played the game, LOL.

Wow I had no idea the OG version of starfox 2 had a lock on system. Shame Nintendo have ignored the starfox franchise for so long, such a cool series.

56:11 Progear gives lifes like candies until you get to 2nd Loop; where not only you only get the hidden stage extends and that's it on top of having the same Point of No Return like DOJ WL where nobody can get into the game and if you run out of lifes is game over

I don't know that Deathtiny has been all that ignored, M2 have said it's had multiple print runs due to demand. Apparently that and Esp.Ra.De. have both done well for them. As for Moglar taking a run at Dragon Blaze, heck yeah, that game's awesome. It would be a good subject for a review on this channel too, I don't know how well understood it is. It's one of the less referenced Psikyo titles, after Gunbird 2, the Strikers series & Sengoku Blade, maybe even the Zero Gunner games.

Is there any relationship between graphic style and board used? DDP Dangun using a board, DOJ Ketsui using another one...? sorry for talking before listening whole show

Oh I think the colors on the pgm games are more muted then the earlier atlus boards due to the hardware differences, great question!

@@TheElectricUnderground oh thank you for the compliment and the difference between different hardware. Just an additional note: from MAME I see Donpachi (Cave 68000) having a pretty flat tone, too. I guess it is related to other reasons.

One thing for Ketsui Deathtiny ending needed in a patch (spoiler): Anime sequence in which Yuma is seen walking following the successful operation. The other 3 volunteers gave their lives, as shown by their faces briefly visible. Yuma simply fades into obscurity, walking to an unknown destination to witness a world at peace. The UN can not know of his fate.
