Just finished my my Axum DP (med) build and would like to say thanks so much for all your interesting, informative and entertaining videos! You really helped me make a sound purchase that I'm very satisfied with. Ended up staying with tubes and installed a rear Tannus insert, wheels, seat and dropper are OEM. Followed most of your upgrades from to phase one so I feel it's capable, trail worthy steed that I can progress my skills on feeling confident and safe. They rebranded a local bike store to a Trek shop with tons of inventory (now) so it was interesting to compare the build to their line-up. The Schwinn seems positioned somewhere between the Rossco 6 ($1199.99) and 7 ($1899.99 - 2023 prices) respectively. My build was a bit pricey since I had most of the work done by professionals but I did source the parts myself. In comparison I still feel I was able to achieve good value for money, it was a really fun and a great way to learn about the bike and components. Thanks again Kev and Happy Holiday!

Questioning if I should lighten the weight of the Axum dp as a project or look into the mongoose xr and try to lighten it up as a project. Can you please share the reach measurement of the medium frame, as well as last year's large frame?this is arguably the most important measurement concerning modern geometry. A modern trail bike with a medium frame typically has at least 430 mm of reach, and the large, 445 mm. It's quite easy to accurately figure out if you simply stand the bike with the front tire touching a wall, keep the bike plumb, and have a 4 ft level or a smaller level attached to a straight piece of wood, and a tape measure. Thanks, I'm sure a lot of us are wanting to know that figure.
@BN992393 жыл бұрын
Yes, but the price for this is now on par with bikes from local bike shops, maybe $50-$100 cheaper but you pretty much should take bikes purchased from big box stores to a bike shop to get it looked over anyhow, so there goes your savings. Not all bikes at all Walmarts are assembled well. Heck, not even bikes at the same Walmarts are assembled similarly. Also, something like a Norco Storm 4 has better parts as well for roughly the same price from a local bike shop. If it's a cruiser or a cheap bike then fine, no need to really be careful with the assembly and quality control, but a mountain bike that consumers will actually take on trails...it's worth it to pay $50-$100 more for proper assembly and quality control.

While yes, that’s not exactly what a dropper post is designed for. It’s idea is to drop the saddle out of the way for technical down hill riding so you can shift your weight around over the back tire off saddle without it getting in the way. Generally you won’t even see droppers on hardtails outside of 140+mm hardcore enduro models or full suspension bikes over 115-120mm. While this Schwinn is leaning into modern geometry a near 68 deg 100mm bike is not gonna be a down hill champ to even need a dropper

I wonder if they plan on having different sizes for the rest of the lineup. The slacker headtube angle was already a standout feature of last year's Axum. Would have loved hydraulic brakes as that's usually one of your first upgrades and adds $150 to the price. Having a real hard time deciding if something like this along with upgrading as I go is better than something like the 2021 Polygon Xtrada 5. The price difference is probably $300 depending on Schwinn selling this for $500, not sure I could fit all the upgrades for the Axum into that budget.

I do not need a new bike. I did some upgrades to a used 2014 Diamondback Mason Comp (a very expensive hardtail at the time) I picked up on the cheap. I love the bike. But the bike trailer I bought (also second hand) is not compatible with a thru-axle and this beautiful new Axum DP might fit the bill perfectly. I was considering the 2020 Axum just because it was beautiful. If it comes in at $500, I’ll be picking it up. But I don’t think I can rationalize it for the $600 since I do still have my 2008 Gary Fisher Hoo Koo E Koo (which has never operated correctly, even though the local bike shop in Sacramento said it was “operating normally”...obvious lies). I’m excited to see the release and trying to rationalize the purchase!

I got a new Axum DP and the Exa Form dropper post is slipping very slowly, even without the cable installed. Do anyone know how to fix that without returning the bike?

Kev, I have a non dp axum large frame I had the rear wheel off and it seems to spin a bit rough I took it apart and regreased but didn't seem to make much of a difference. So my thought was new Bearings but I didn't measure them. Do you know if they are 1/4" rear 3/16 front?

Really loving the sized frame. Makes be glad I didn't buy a 2020 model of anything already. I'll have to keep an eye out for these in store as it as hold actually fit me.

That's really cool to see sized frames hopefully we'll see some of these updates on the 2021 aluminum comp I got on Schwinn's website and they don't show the axum or the aluminum comp or the boundary so I don't know if it's possibly a different website or what that you have to find these on

Nice bike Kev. Do you know the reach and stack measurement on the Medium? I know the Large reach is 471. the geometry is nowhere to found. Thanks

Yes ! I bought a large and the top bar was too high, so I returned it. (32” inseam). Would love it if these reviews included tons of measurements. (Walmart would probably save themselves some returns if they did the same ! )

I sold my Axum a while ago because it was too big. I got an Al Comp and dropped a lot of money to upgrade it. It's an awesome bike and I love riding it, but I live in the high desert in Southern California and I really missed those wide tires on the Axum for these sandy trails. The Al Comp frame can only comfortably fit a 2.5 inch wide tire in the rear. With plus tire bikes being so expensive, I really wish I had held out for this bike instead of jumping on the Comp now.

How big was it? Whats your height?
@Ultimaniacx43 жыл бұрын
@@timecost The old Axum which is now listed as a large is a 19" frame. I'm 5'6", I didn't mind the standover height much but the top tube was pretty long. I don't think I ever measured it but even with a 45mm stem and the seat as far forward as I could get it, I felt like I was reaching too much for the bars. I actually managed to return my Al Comp and ended up getting the new Axum DP in medium. It's a 17" frame and perfect for me.

Nice Vid. Just ordered a size M red for my wife last night. Looking forward to her joining me (Giant Trance) and our son (Vitus Nucleus 24) on the trails!
