This one always felt like they wanted to do a "journalist investigates a conspuracy game" so they used a recognizable character. Then half way through planning realized what game series frank is from. Then saw all the "serious zombie stories" out at the time and decided to do that too. Like when this came out i remember a lot of people having zombie burn-out, myself included.

Earth Defense Force started as basically a budget game among a series of budget games where the publisher just shotgunned a bunch of games at a wall and saw what stuck. EDF is now on its 6th mainline game and each one s significant improvement over the last. There's also Ace Combat where, other then Assault Horizon spin off (pretty much held in the same regard as 'DMC is to Devil may cry fans) have been going strong for 7 games and 4 5 and Zero are regarded as the best in the series

My favorite part about this game is a friend gave me a free copy on steam because they got a key in a promotion that they didn't need, and then I discovered despite meeting literally all of the requirements and then some to make the game run, it still wouldn't run...and apparently this was super common for the game to just not work for some people for some reason. I still can't get the game to run years later with an even better computer.

I just can't get over how they changed Frank's VA. He just feels like a generic action protagonist now. And I eye rolled hard when I saw it had stealth mechanics. DR1 did everything right for what it was. It didn't copy what was popular at the time. Now every single game has to have some lazy stealth mechanics thrown onto it. I love old school stealth games but I'm soooo sick of every game having a "crouch to not be seen or heard" function. Stealth was unnecessary in DR1 and DR2 (never played 3)

It really felt like a rushed games, the change in voice actors wasn’t bad but I felt as if he wasn’t even given a good script 😂, they had some ideas that weren’t fully flushed out, there was like 4 construction sites but they only had collectibles and they were never used as big set pieces, although I know most people want a DR1 remake but they could’ve made DR4 nuts to butts crazy. I don’t mind the fast pace of the game, I feel as though at this point in the series frank west is a psychopath himself. It’s not my favorite but I would just turn off my mind and mindlessly mow down zombies, it’s not fun for some people but it really got me through tuff times 😂 A DEAD RISING REMAKE IS A MUST BTW, BUT WITHOUT ALL THE CRAZY SHENANIGANS OF DR3-4

Deadrising didn't have jokes per se. The plot and all the cutscenes are serious melodramas, only for frank to turn around and kill zombies with a homemade electrified fire shooting strap-on. DR4 added flat comedic elements and limited gameplay options, providing the worst of both worlds.
