And he did it again today to get Silver, demoting his brother to bronze in the last 5 meters. INCREDIBLE

Never having competed in track events, I am hoping someone who has can explain to me why outside lane is worse than middle lane. The starting positions are staggered to equalize the distance. What am I missing please?

It is more of a psychological thing. Being in the outside lanes, you can't see any other runners for the first half of the race, making it somewhat difficult to pace yourself. Yes, they are all the same distance with the stagger. But being in the middle lanes you can set your pace off of some of the outside runners. At least that's the way I always thought of it. I always got stuck in the outside lanes in the 400m :(

@@mbucd that's a testament to his mental strength just as much as his athleticism.

Pity Krasnov didn't quite get there and lost a medal on the line. He made up for it with gold in the 4 x 400 metres. He was moving quicker than anyone in that last 50 metres but left himself too much to do.

He might as well have won the race. Asking the guy who's half a foot taller than everyone else to run the tightest bends of all 8 runners is asking a lot, you wonder why he never ran much indoors.
