He presents it as a comedy routine, but he’s absolutely right. There’s something called “the velocity of money” which is transactions over time. The higher the velocity of money per pound, the better your economy does. Give money to poor people and the velocity of money is dozens of times whatnot is for the same money in the hands of rich people. That’s why am economy slows down, when there’s too much money in the hands of people who don’t spend it.

There’s also something called inflation
@mromegakiwi49522 жыл бұрын
@@jajajajajaja867 it depends on what causes the inflation. In the OP's comment I assume it would be more of a demand-pull inflation, too many buyers and too few suppliers. If you have enough investment to sustain the supply without affecting prices then it could work. In Western countries we're faced more with a wage-price spiral. The cost of living is increasing so workers demand better wages, which in turn increases prices, which leads yet again to a higher demand in wages, etc. But all this would imply that you are in a closed economy. Globalised markets mean that we are highly exposed to international crises, just look at Ukraine. It's a small country but global food supplies are already jeopardised. All the economic theory is sound, I believe know how to make it work by now, but we just can't control international affairs and their effects on domestic markets.

His jokes are a legitimate solution to fixing an economy. It's people saving money that crashes it not spending. Give poor people a huge income weekly benefits and tell them to go ham because whatever they don't spend will get reset at the end of the week. They'll buy new clothes, live in larger houses, hire maids to clean those houses, buy more and better foods, toys for their kids... etc Then the real problem becomes sustainability for the planet and it's inhabitants, not how can we stop starving a planet with 3x the amount of food required being produced on it.
@jackb53692 жыл бұрын
He's funny but not an economist, that would ruin a country, if benefits were 1000 pounds a week then the lowest a business would have to pay their employees is 1000+ a week that would lead to thousands of small businesses going bankrupt and leading to more people on benefits and a bigger deficit overall. Although the items bought may be highly taxable they are not 100% taxable so only a proportion is returned to the government not the full amount. The key to having a better economy is to give incentives for spending to stop people saving lots of money and slowing down the economy, not lowing the productivity of a country by destroying businesses.

if benefits were £1,000 a week, everyone would quit their jobs, be lining up at the jobcentre, and not paying taxes on their income, to pay for those benefits, so Govt debt would soar, output would fall, demand would go up, hyperinflation ensues, and the pound would be worth about as much as the Zimbabwean dollar.
