When people asked me who was my fav Batman, they expected me to say one of the movie/tv actors (Adam, Ben, Chris, Val, Michael, Robert …not so much George). I shocked them when I say Kevin Conroy. They forgot about the 90s animation series and then suddenly start talking about their fav episodes. Being a voiceover is also being an actor. Just because you are not in a costume or in front of a camera doesn’t mean your talent isn’t recognized. Kevin embodied what Bruce Wayne truly was. I think Bill Finger would have been proud to have seen Kevin portray his creation. I was hoping he would play Bruce if they did a Batman Beyond movie but now I have to keep imagining it. You are vengeance… you are the night… you are and always will be Batman. 🦇

The first time I saw Kevin Conroy was in a televised production of A Midsummer Night's Dream performed in NY's Central Park's outside Delacourt Theatre but I didn't know it at the time as this was before Batman. Thankfully I had recorded it that night decades ago and it's interesting to see him doing the theater that he loves.

Kevin Conroy will always be THE voice of Batman for me. He still owns the role! Andrea Romano is a legend and has such a good ear when looking for voices His death was one of the few celebrity deaths that really hurt. He was someone I grew up with and will always remember. RIP Kevin Conroy

To be honest, when I think about Batman scenes in any canon, or reading comics - the voice in my head defaults to Conroy. Not on purpose - but Conroy is just the default Batman voice for me. My brain will just overwrite the memory and slap his voice on it. The same happens with Hamill when thinking of the Joker, with the exception of Ledger in DK. He was just that good. But still - this is a thing that happens with me.

A good majority of face actors can’t give a vocal performance and it take the audience out of the story they are trying to tell. For the few that can, know their craft, who respect their art that’s what independent producers need get these ladies and gentlemen to work.

Kevin Conroy = Perfect Bruce Wayne and Batman voice Mark Hamill = Perfect Joker Voice I'll be honest here; Keaton and Affleck comes a good tie in second place for being able to dual-voice Batman in live action. Keaton practically lowered his voice down an octave when in the Batsuit in the 1989 Batman film. I know they gave Affleck a voice modulator either in post or in filming - but the way I got sold on him as Bats was during that scene where his armored suit was banged up to hell and his voice modulator kept on malfunctioning - Aflleck can be heard (SANS voice effect) to still be able to growl out his lines without having to sound like he's got throat cancer. He even changed his vocal pitch when OUT of costume as Bruce Wayne to sound a little more "vapid", nearly the same way Keaton does as Bruce Wayne. I didn't see that on Bale and Nolan's take on Batman. That was the weakest thing about the Nolan Batverse imo. FFS, he's got LUCIUS FOX as his Q to his Bond and they couldn't come up with a vocal scrambler/modulator for his batsuit? Bale's Batman has the suit, the tank, and the gadgets - but a vocal modulator was too "unrealistic" for them? As for Kilmer and Clooney, they never even bothered to differentiate their voices in and out of the costume. The jury is still out on Pattinson until his film is released.

Problem is they overused the voice synth. A proper use would be something like Arrow where it's used, but the voice can influence where the digital voice goes. Keaton is still the best live action one.

Check out the scene in BvS where his armor is busted up and his edited, scrambled voice actually stops - you can easily tell it was his own unedited voice once the vocal scrambler stopped working, yet deeper in octave. Also check the scenes where is plays as his Bruce Wayne "public persona", he naturally pitches his voice an octave higher in public than when he's alone with Alfred and the other league members. There's a video floating around in KZbin after BvS was done showing in theaters and moved to DVD/Blu-Ray where a KZbinr was showing exactly that in his vlog - unless WB copyright-claimed it despite it being fair use, it should still be up.

I would very much like to share a proper outro on Am I Blue cuz dude: Am I Blue was featured as a song in many cartoons in the 1930s which were shown on t.v. in the 1950s and so the song was very close to my heart and it felt like being in love with Betty Boop.
