Over the years , there have been many Batman interpretations over the years but one stands amongst the rest.
Kevin Conroy is the undisputed definitive Batman having played the part for the better part of 3 decades.
Most notably playing Batman in Batman The Animated Series, the Arkham franchise, and The Killing Joke .

Arkham Knight showed the character in a different state. After Joker's death, it seemed that Kevin sounded harsher in his delivery. I don't think it was just his older age, but an intentional choice on either his, or the director's part.

He has been and always will be my Batman, the best to ever do it hands down. I remember my first time hearing his voice as Batman when I was 5 years old watching the World's Finest episodes of Superman the Animated Series and just being mesmerized by his intimidating and deep yet calming voice. From that point on he was MY Batman and for that reason every time I gazed upon something Batman related, live-action or otherwise, I was slightly disappointed that it wasn't him. He became my childhood hero and I would not be the same person if it wasn't for him. For all of us he is THE Batman and there will never be another like him.

I met Kevin Conroy twice at 2 different cons. The first meeting was good but the second one is the most special, it was a local con and the final day of the con so everyone who wanted to meet him or see his Q&A with Phil LaMar had already done so, so he was alone and I got to speak to him for around 20 minutes!! He was so kind and at the time (November 2015) we didn’t know he was going to be Batman in the killing joke film, but he told me “keep an ear out in January” and winked at me when I asked about it.

Kevin Conroy passing on was like Stan Lee passing away all over again, it just broke me when I found out it happened when it did, because I thought that Kevin Conroy Batman would be around for literally FOREVER, never in a second did I think of a day when Kevin would've either retired his portrayal or him pass away at all, I figured he'd be around till he was 90 and STILL VOICING BATMAN, but now, there will never be that chance for one more word, one more line, one more time or one more story from KC Batman, Kevin Conroy was a once in a lifetime voice for a character that has had multiple versions of himself but truly only one voice that defined him, and that was Kevin Conroy, no voice could portray him, AND NO VOICE HAS EVER BEEN BETTER SINCE KEVIN.

By god though, that smile at 23:22 is all I needed to see from this man. I have NEVER seen anyone give such a genuine smile from something they simply love doing and that was something for a fan no less. I didn't watch Batman: The Animated Series until last year, but I'm so glad I did. Kevin Conroy infused so much passion into the character, and hearing him talk about what Batman means to people and how they connect with him was just as entertaining as his actual portrayal. He embodied Batman so perfectly without ever actually getting into the suit(until Crisis, that is), and his love for what he was doing was always felt. Kevin Conroy has been my favourite Batman since the Animated series and especially the Arkham Games and when Knight came out a lot of people criticized his performance and it honestly broke my heart they were saying he was “robotic” and “lifeless” saying his acting was bad but that’s what made it so good through out the Arkham saga u can see his evolution or devolution from his expressive and live voice in Asylum and Origins (even tho it was Roger) to how he sounds so dead inside in Knight the only two Arkham games where he grunts in combat is Asylum and Origins and I think that’s on purpose and spoilers for Arkham he lost so much people that he just doesn’t feel the same anymore like Jason, Barbara (at the moment) and joker oddly enough so his lifeless voice in Knight fits very well and makes sense in the narrative of the games

I remember when I was a wee lil lad my dad bought me Batman Mask of the Phantasm on vhs. It was my first introduction to not only Conroys batman but also Hamills joker. After that film i would tune in to watch the animated series religiously even to this. Kevin Conroy is and will always be batman. May he rest in peace

Kevins Batman, unconsciously, is in part, an influence to how I get about with my interactions. Subtle, calm and and observant. Character traits I feel like, I first recognized from watching Kevin's portrayal.

My own relationship with my father was heavily influenced by BTAS. My dad loved that specific version of Batman and Conroy was his favorite part. I grew up listening to it. I miss you dad and I’ll always think of you when I hear that incredible voice 💙

Too many memories. But one of the Timm verse Batman/DCAU memories that stands out, is that it was around for well over a decade . Conroy's Batman outlasted the original Saban Era Power Rangers. He was one of the only action hero shows in the early 90s, but lasted well past the late 90s action phase, and even after the early 2000s anime boom. Kevin Conroy and the DCAU, even well outlasted (WITH multiple movies) their 90's Marvel Animated Universe counterparts. Kevin and the DCAU are ageless classics, that never seem to get old. And his work gets even better with time 🍷

His response to your question was so powerful. I am going to save this video so when I need a pick me up, to listen to his words of why I appreciate batman so much. And why we continue to work hard, not only in life but on ourselves.

It's usually pretty difficult for me to feel saddened by the deaths of people I don't personally know, morbid as that might be, but news of Kevin dying was painful to hear. For as far back as I've got memories, I've loved Batman. The character, while imperfect, served as quite the lovely escape route from some pretty stressful times during my younger days. He's inspired the tone and themes of several passion projects I'm writing. And nobody who's voiced him before or since Kevin has brought Batman to life the same way. He'll be dearly missed for that fact.

He's one of the best voice actors ever, even though he's only really known for one role. That's how damn perfect he was. He embodies everything about the character so flawlessly it's astounding.

My first experience with the character was Heart of Ice, re-run in my country with subtitles, years later. The voice always stuck with me.

Very fitting because that's one of the episodes that defined modern Mr Freeze. I'd also suggest Feet of Clay, for umm... Clayface.

This was an amazing video for an amazing man. Kevin was so influential to me and my family. When I first met the woman who would become my wife, we bonded over the character of Batman and she seemingly fell in love with me when she asked me who the best Batman was. And I said Kevin. We married a year later. We had the privilege of meeting the legend at a convention. He signed the batarang my wife found in my house when we first met and I have a picture with him, my wife and my two kids. V, Kevin is holding my infant son in the picture. It killed me finding out he had passed once I realized it wasn't a hoax. I had the privilege of telling him that he was the reason me and my wife were together and he was so humble. He changed my life for the better. R.I.P Batman.

I grew up watching BTAS, JL, and JLU. Those shows and Kevin Conroy's Batman made me a lifelong superhero nerd. When I was younger and got bullied a lot, Conroy's Batman seemed like a power fantasy. But as I got older (and STILL got bullied), I really got to see the empathy and humanity behind Conroy's Batman. Sure, there were other characters I loved, like Spider-Man, Wolverine, Punisher, Deadpool, Captain America, Black Panther, etc., but his portrayal of Batman (MAYBE alongside Dee Bradley Baker's Captain Rex) made me believe that human beings always have the chance to be--and do--better, whether anyone else takes it.

I was a little kid like 5 years old...Batman the Animated Series, Batman Beyond, Batman Mask of the Phantasm, Mystery of the Batwoman, SubZero. I hardly remember anything from back then ofc, but I remember watching all of those over and over and over. Then in my teens, Arkham. Its been 2 decades and Kevins voice as Batman been with some of us since we were playing in the sandbox. I think a big reason why I love replaying Arkham so much is because his voice reminds me of a simpler time.

That interview segment got me right in the feels. That was a beautiful vision of the meaning of Batman as a character. If Keven Conway tells me that is who Batman is. Then, as a Superman fan. I say that Batman is the greatest of the DC heroes.

I'm not gonna lie, I never got into TAS but Conroy is my batman. The fact that he continued playing bats for the rest of the DCAU like justice league (which I watch yearly) and of course other projects like the Arkham series there was no way I would have ever seen anyone else as batman. Even with TAS, I never sat down to watch the entire show (always felt like my older brothers show) there were still episodes of the show that were part of my childhood like the episode with the one armed priest who was childhood friends with a gangster or the alway amazing gray ghost episode. And that show before the redesign was always gorgeous to me. that like 40s gothic noir feeling made each frame gorgeous. Mix that with Conroy and the rest of the talent that help make that show and you have perfection. I mean for him it was literally and luckily transcendent since he worked on all these other projects as the B man. Thank you Kevin Conroy, even when I’m 80 you will be batman, the voice I will here when reading comics, the batman to compare all others against, and the one that I will annoy my grandkids by telling them about the best batman.

I take great comfort in knowing that when watching the best animated Batman content, playing genre defining games, and knowing that so many of us will always hear his voice when we're reading what Batman is saying. He defined Batman in a way that can never truly be replicated. He is truly immortal. The definitive Batman and then some 🦇 Fantastic video, Vee. Always like to see the Passion for Kevin and TAS in general 👍

I think my favorite thing that Kevin Conroy as Batman was involved in Justice League unlimited in the episode where Circe turns Wonder woman into a pig and you see how far he'll go for those he cares for and you could hear the difference in Kevin's proformance between normal stoic batman at the beginning of the episode and the worried and desperate batman trying to find a way to lift the curse it's my favorite episode (personal note I wished Kevin was able to sing more it was gorgeous I usually don't like singing out side of a song but I will look up a clip of that occasionally)
