Honestly The Batman's version of the Joker is for some reason one of the only versions of Joker that to me can believably go toe to toe with Batman physically. Mainly because he's acrobatic, able to use his smaller size as an advantage, and always has some sort of trick up his sleeve. I also really liked his alternate outfit.
@narcisosanz8137 Жыл бұрын
Though I don't like his overall style here, I love how the alternative outfit actually enhances his physicality and yes, I agree about him *feeling* like an actual threat to Batman. It's like he compensates the lack of muscles and training with his madness while his acrobatic skills give him a spooky, dark and edgy side.

I'm just a bit too young for TAS to be definitive for me, so it was Batman Beyond and this show that really codified the mythos for me. I really don't like what was done with Mr Freeze's total rewriting, or how the detective characters from the first bit of the series basically vanished after Commissioner Gordon stepped in, or how Batgirl became all but irrelevant by the final season. But something I like about this series more then TAS before it, or most iterations after it, is that it can have fun but be in-universe serious about it. For example: Joker dealing with a nanomachine clone, Penguin and an old acquantaince of Alfred's searching for treasure, the Riddler setting up a grand turf war, a disgruntled political candidate trying to take over Gotham with robotic roman legionaries, a hacker with an addiction to taking other people's racecars. All these crazy ass ideas straight out of Golden Age zaniness but the responses to them usually made some level of sense in universe. Alot of the animated series that came after this show seem to lean a bit too much on the camp/cheese/comedy to appeal to younger audiences, while the animated films seem to lean wayy to heavy on the edge and grittiness. And while both can work and still have great runs, I don't see many shows that do both well like this one did. Never did watch the Dracula film, should probably do that at some point.

Seasons 1-2 were good. Bruce was capable and levelheaded, his relationship with Alfred was on point, it was as dark and noir as a kids show could really get, and it did justice and then some to the characters it chose to portray. But when season 3 and 4 came around with the introductions of Batgirl and Robin, the series as a whole really came into its element. The way Babs and Dick bounced off Bruce as well as each other added that extra something that really made this show as good as it was. The justice league season was good too, but i would’ve loved if the show hadn’t broadened its horizons out of gotham and instead chose to continue expanding the batfamily on screen.

I always loved the art style and designs of the show making it feel modern. It just felt so cool to me as a little girl watching it on TV and made me really love Batman and become my fave superhero. I know it's impractical but I loved how long Batman's cape was in the series. There was something just so cool about it. It was a fresh take seeing a younger Batman with a smooth voice and mastering the ropes but not his flaw of being super aggressive but other things. The theme song was so cool and the combat and design and action of the cape was so cool without being e d g y. Robin wasn't as cool as the Teen Titans one but cute and charming. Batgirl was fresh and cool but also capable.

I've always thought that "The Batman" is to the Batman series what "Ultimate Spider-Man" is to the Spider-Man series. A unique take on the hero with different designs for the villains, a younger version of the hero, and done really well all things considered! I agree with you. This show is underrated. I obviously prefer The Animated Series, or even Batman Beyond. But, this one is definitely worth a watch! I, admittedly... didn't really give it a chance back in 2004, but as an adult... I've really mellowed out, and am able to accept different takes on my favorite characters more easily. And now, I'm able to go back and really appreciate this show for what it is. The Batman!

In order: Agreed. Equal at best. Most days, I still think I'd lean on the BTAS version. Disagree. There's a...weightlessness...to a lot of this show's action that wasn't there in BTAS. And when part of the appeal of Batman is, at least theoretically, being on the human scale...? That's a downgrade. Agreed. HARD disagree. Firefly isn't a top tier villain regardless, but at least BTAS Firefly HAD a clearer backstory.

In this show not only is the choreography just more cool looking and fast paced (by having actual choreographyn in the first place lol) but theres just more variety to the action in general especially since the villains were designed to have different types of action scenes depending on who Batman is fighting, which i guess applies to TAS as well but i think this show does it better Firefly is awesome in hid team up story with Killer Moth, hes straight up one of the most slept on Batman villains and i think hes way better in this show then TAS even if he isnt an insane pyromaniac in this version. the episode "artifacts" takes place 20 years into the future, and that batman is a 40 year old battle scarred, dark knight returns type batman. say if this series gets a continuation, it takes place instead 7-10 years into the future where batman is only 30 with a new robin (tim drake), robin took up the name nightwing and is trying to figure his way out in life and batgirl is spending time by her dad's side, weeks before the events of the killing joke. and as the show progresses, it introduces red hood, and newer enemies to fight, with redesigns of old ones (but don't change the joker, just give him a vacation suit for the killing joke) oh, and make the show more mature, still safe for children, but not safe enough to get toddlers to watch

One of the things I liked the most about this series is that it takes one of the central themes of the character, that Batman is the real person and Bruce is the mask, and shows you it's progression. At the beginning he is cocky and brash, his attitude when he is alone or just with Alfred not that different from the playboy persona he puts on, you could see how he is Bruce Wayne who puts on a costume to fight crime, but the longer the series goes on he gets more serious, being more thoughtful of everything he does, starts to never leave the "Batman Attitude" unless he is in public, and before you know it he is the Batman we all know, and the most impressive part is that it's all seamless, if you put one early episode and one of the latter seasons you can see the difference, but you don't notice it while you are watching. While I like "Gotham" one thing I didn't particularly liked was that Bruce was always treated as "Future Batman", even taking into account the trauma from his parents death I could never see him as just a kid, while he goes through some development he essentially had his Batman persona before Batman was even a concept, in "The Batman" it felt more organically, Bruce understanding that this is the man he must become if he wants to protect Gotham.

For example, Batman from White Knight, Ben Affleck Batman, Frank Miller Batman, New 52 Batman, Rebirth Batman, Batman Hush, etc. And on the flip side, when an artist or movie/TV director wants their Batman to be more mysterious and less of a brawler, he has longer ears, such as Keatons Batman, Bales Batman, Denny O'Neill Batman, Injustice Batman, Kingdom Come Batman, etc. Obviously there are exceptions, such as Arkham games Batman, and Long Halloween Batman, who is incredibly buff. The thing I love about this is how Batman evolves throughout and how it gradually expands introduces recognisable elements as it goes on. S1&2: Starts with a young fairly new Batman and introduces his well known villains starting with the Joker. Also having the police very much against him makes for an interesting dynamic. S3: Introduces Commissioner Gordon and Batgirl. S4: Introduces Robin. S5: Introduces the Justice League and the universe/threats outside of Gotham. I honestly think it's a great breakdown of his evolution and as a kid I loved it because you actually saw him growing and developing as a hero. I also (controversially) think it did some things like the introduction of Robin better than TAS but that's just me.

This is actually the first one I watched so I’m always surprised when people say it’s underrated Like it isn’t to me And this show actually had my favorite joker. I agree it’s not definitive, but goddam that voice is great. But The Penguin’s voice is my favorite voice for him, and the voice I hear in my head, so I’ll give it that I do think that the even numbered seasons are a lot better than the odd ones, with season 4 being my favorite, and I love how Batgirl and Robin are kids and act like kids, but aren’t like annoying little shits. I can always appreciate that The new characters it made were actually pretty cool. Ethan Bennett was very nice as a stand in for Harvey since they couldn’t use it, but was also his own person. DAVE is legitimately one of my favorite Batman villains ever. Rumor has a surprisingly interesting backstory and motivation, and also looked badass. The Everywhere Man, despite having a generic name and look, was actually a really interesting character. Francis Gray had such a tragic backstory and basically won. Toy maker might have been a knock off of Toyman, but he still had his own personality and looked really cool. The designs for the characters are among my favorite designs them in all of Batman media. Cat woman, while the mouse ears are a bit much, looks very cool with the tail whip and orange goggles. Mr freeze looks badass with just a block of ice as his head and no mouth (no mouth always makes characters look more intimidating IMO). Scarface looks more like, well, Scarface, with a much more business casual Ventriloquist. Firefly looks the best he’s ever looked no contest. Bane before his venom looks extremely cool, with the mask covering his whole face and the venom dials looking much cooler than the usual back-of-the-head veins (post venom kinda ruins it tho) the unused design for the scarecrow looks absolutely incredibly (look up unused The Batman scarecrow design it’s awesome.) Also season 1-2 intro is the best Batman tv show theme song that’s a fact So yeah, this is my favorite batman cartoon (blasphemy I know) and I would really like to see more of “The Batman”
