As an artist myself, I've never understood the distaste or the shock people have for actors who are also musicians like this, or musicians who wind up actors. For me the art forms really all go hand in hand, and the truth is that most artists dabble occasionally amongst all the mediums. The entire nature of art is to be curious and forever seeking something new. This was especially true in deep history when you look at preAmerican figures from artistic reanissanceperiods like DaVinci or Michelangelo et cetera: Both of those guys studied music, writing, poetry, a wide range of intellectual topics, painting, and probably would have studied acting too, except for the fact that in their time period acting was regarded as a lesser art. I think a lot of the idea that an artist must stick gruelingly to one medium or another is mostly as a result of the fact that the Americans have gone balls to the wall commercializing all the art forms, and quite frankly it's difficult to "fully digest" a well rounded character when everything is supposed to be cut up into these little pockets and squares. For me there's nothing at all odd about seeing Costner, or Bruce Willis, or Johnny Depp singing or playing music, it's actually relieving. Basically it just looks like they're playing another character to me....
