Not too observant? John Dutton didn't end himself, he was taken out by a professional hit that made it look like he did it himself. I thought the show made that clear, but I'm amazed at how many people seem to have missed that. Sara hired the hitmen. And Costner can kick rocks. He bailed and let down millions of fans because he couldn't wait to work on a different project.

It was always a plan for his character to leave the only reason he stayed on for 5 seasons, was because we loved John dutton’s character. He left because he’s doing the horizon’s trilogy movies. So he chose to do the movie instead of stay on at Yellowstone, the argument was Costner stayed true to the American western anti-hero. And the send off.

What Costner did was forced on him by Sheridan having too many irons in the fire and not living up to his obligation to have scripts ready to go for Yellowstone when Kevin had agreed to be available. Kevin was upfront with Paramount about his plans to make Horizon and those plans were made giving Yellowstone the priority with the agreed upon shooting schedule. But, when Sheridan kept delaying the shooting because he didn’t have the scripts ready, Kevin’s plans were already in place with 300 people hired to proceed with Horizon which he personally financed to the tune of more than $35 Million. So, Kevin was not the problem. He lived up to his obligation until Paramount/Sheridan made it impossible for him to continue with Yellowstone.

It’s because of scheduling, especially when the writers strike took affect and delayed everything even more. You can’t blame either party, it is what is is. Still sad to see John Duttons life end the way it did. Thank you Sheridan and Costner for taking us on a journey that lifted our spirits, which is what we all need.

Look, Costner didn’t want to come back. What were they going to say? “John’s on vacation in Cabo”? “John is now a hippie protesting McDonald’s with Summer Higgins”? He was written out. End of story. It was made VERY clear that the suicide was faked by a very expensive hit team hired by Sarah Atwood, if you bothered to watch the show. And from a dramatic standpoint, Beth, Rip and Kayce have to have the common enemy in Jamie and Market Equities. There was no creative solution that was going to please everyone, this is as good an option as any. And I don’t put too much stock in Costner’s creative opinions. Waterworld? The Postman? Watch the bloody show or don’t.

They didn’t get rid of him! He choose to leave and I’m team Sheridan! We will see when it’s all said and done if people will like the choice Costner’s made. On if the other gig is as good as Yellowstone is and was. I hope they continue without him. As to how they ended him the did what they could without being able to film him. So obviously it’s not suicide and they have now a battle to build on to unravel who is was which we already know and how that will play out will determine the real future of the show. As I think this could still be a fantastic show.

So sad ego ended an amazing show- hundreds lost their jobs, the fans lose out and PRIDE kills everything….. ✍️ This show definitely should not be over! Letting Dutton retire or resign and run off into the sunset 🌅 would have put Dutton on a good light and Sheridan wasn’t going to do that. However, after the big shock of Dutton getting killed -….. the show literally didn’t even honor the character with a Funeral / Memorial Service…. ✍️ Jamie’s character is soo sad- his lack of low self and not feeling affirmed and accepted made him silently dangerous

Taylor Sheridan is on of the most distasteful people in show business. The real separation here is because Kevin wanted John Dutton to be more gracious and morally upstanding. Taylor is immoral to the core. Kevin Costner is much better off, personally, dedicating himself to Horizon.

Season 5, Episode 9 was a big disappointment. The sloppy storyline twists the scene between Sara and Jamie discussing offing Beth into killing John Dutton, Summer missing when she's on house arrest, and how Jamie accepted Sarah knocking off John.

I understand why they killed him off this way as I am pretty sure or hope it is to give the show a proper ending it is supposed to have. BUT episodes 9 and 10 have mainly been very disappointing. I feel like they have been more advertising for the 6666 show that is supposed to be Sheridon's next big hit. These parts are slow and are just to drawn out. I hope the last 4 episodes are more exciting and do more to give the main characters more to do with their storylines and not just short two and three-minute guest shots... (that's what it seemed like to me anyways)

I think even though Taylor Sheridan is the producer of show , you read All the producer's he's not the only one. I believe for a really short dude he's grown way way cockier for his little legs. That was definitely a F-you ending to Kevin Costner ever being in the show again. Remember 1883? No, not Bismarck creating social insurance in Germany, but the promise the first Dutton on that ranch land gave to the indians? That after 7 generations the land would go back to the indians? The standards vary but if you take 20 years as the count for one generation, then 2023 is the year of transition. Kayce inherits the ranch and with his indian wife and his son, the ranch and the farmland indeed go back to the indians without a fight, but by heritage. If the whole saga comes to such a round story in the end, I can life with John Dutton's made up suicide. I love shows that have a beginning, a middle and an end like Breaking Bad. Shows that don't become artificially prolonged because of its success and then get ruined by idiotic stories. I despise that came back to life crap we had in Dallas. Or the tons of spin-offs for The Walking Dead which should best have ended in Alexandria with some hope rather than turning the Dead to some background extras in sort of a street gang show. Let Yellowstone end with a prophecy fulfilled and perhaps try to go on with 1923 before Harrison Ford dies. And give us 1953 with some Elvis and great cars on the ranch? Just kiddin' ...

Sheridan is a great Writer and Director.. Costner is the one who wanted off the show to make his own Western .. which he should have waited because it Bombed..he could have finished this season and then took off to make Horizons.. Costner isn't the only great actor on the show.!! And that shouldn't be anything taken away from the rest of the cast... And I love the show and the so called death of John, it's going to come out Who had it done, and why.. That's going to be a big part of the show.
