It’s a shame that this speech got memed to death; it is an incredibly touching and beautiful speech.
@earsbeats11 ай бұрын
I felt that way originally but memes are best when they’re from media content we recognize. The reason so many come from this speech is because it is one of the most famous and moving pieces of oration in human history. We use the memes because they’re relatable. It’s why so many come from Good Will Hunting or The Lord of the Rings. There’s infinite commentary on the human condition to be found in these works, and now, this speech holds a place in immortality with those great works of art. The main difference is that this isn’t fiction. It’s neither a parable nor a metaphor. This is real. And that makes it so much more powerful. So, if it’s of any comfort, friend, those same memes we feel might be disrespectful initially bring people by the millions to this moving tribute to friendship, hard work, love, sacrifice, and-most importantly-the love of a mother. And I’ve seen many comments from folks who now understand the gravity of this man’s words. Professional sports can inspire cynicism & joy in nearly equal doses. The unity of fans, cities, countries, is often rivaled by violence and hatred. The intricate choreography and physical skill is paralleled by brutality, injury, cheating, even death. The purity of competition is perpetually tainted by corruption, bribery and politics. These leagues and organizations have exploited young athletes for their labor, turning performance art into painful toil and festivals of sport into hunger games. And this young man-who escaped destitute poverty, in a nation of corporate oligarchy, to become a billionaire at a younger age than the power hungry men who sign his paychecks, by playing basketball-that young man has become an inspiration to millions and lifted thousands of people in hundreds of communities out of the same desperate situations he faced as a child. So as he stands, draped in Kia and NBA logos, seemingly honored by his lessers, with an award won by his idols, this modern day god (both financially and athletically) reminds us that he is not a god. He is but the product of people who loved him and supported him; the son of a woman who gave him the opportunity to be happy against. all. odds. That’s quite an ounce of beauty to squeeze out of that orange ball. Thank you, KD.

As a die hard OKC fan...what happened to this humble man...😭 He was my idol since 2007 when I watched the supersonics and his rookie year. See GS fans get it confused. Most of us OKC fans do hate Durant but it's not really because we hate him, it's because we miss him and are heartbroken by what he did. I watched everything he did. I was 8 years old when I bought his jersey and played basketball everyday and he was always my favorite player. No matter what he did I loved him. When he lost in 2012 nobody gave him any stick. Every year we supported him no matter what. Now as an 18 year old, 10 years later to see how he acts and how different he has become, it makes me so sad man. I wish GS fans would understand he was the city, the team, and the role model for so many young kids like I was and not feel the need to talk so much shit to us as if they supported him their whole life. They will never understand. They blame Russ and all that bs etc. as a die hard OKC fan I know Durant loved Russ. Our GM is why Durant left. He never received praise from him and our GM, Sam P, never did what it took to win. He didn't care to keep harden and pay a little extra. As Durant I don't blame him but I wish he kept that humble attitude that I loved for 10+ years. GS fans need to let us vent. I wish they could understand what we feel as fans seeing him leave. We're all just saddened by the move.

went from one of the most loved players in the league to one of its most hated. although i don’t like his decisions regarding teams, I still respect the man because of his love and respect for his mom. anybody that treats and acknowledges their momma like that (as they should) is doing something right in my book.

It’s his decision to what team he wants to play on at the end of the day.

Man I thought the Will Smith "Why doesn't he want me?" scene is a tear jerker. "You're the real MVP" is a tough one.

ya boi soos You can't blame a guy for wanting to win a ring. Especially a player of his caliber. He knows with his age and timing this is his moment and time he can't waste it

He's in his prime, that's the exact reason he should have stayed with OKC! To leave at your best without delivering a ring to that city, to that franchise, to that team!
@FinalGaWd37 жыл бұрын
if he stayed with OKC he would've never gotten a ring
