13 year old Leeds fan….. I got Keegans autograph among others (including a very young Chris Waddle) after this game. When they were getting on the team bus.

Great footage, this game mustn’t have been televised as shirt sponsors weren’t allowed on TV until the following season. First time I’ve seen that yellow kit with the blue star on video.

This was probably the most trouble i ever saw at an away game. Was going off all afternoon. Seats flying and othets missiles thrown. Fighting before, during and after the game.

I was only 13 so no way was I involved. I'm not a Leeds fans but my friends were so I'd often go to games with them. I can vividly remember the NUFC fans absolutely battering the coppers and chucking ripped out seats at them whilst they were attempting to sperate the home and away fans. Then it kicked off royally outside the station on the way home. Someone who I was at school with reckoned that a lad stood on the Kop with a black widow catapult felled Keegan with a ball bearing. My kids and nephews struggle to comprehend just how violent football could be back then. It's all very corporate and sanitised these days. I don't miss the violence but I do miss the atmosphere. I saw plenty of violence at Elland Road back then but this, a Liverpool and a Chelsea game from the same period really stood out for sheer intensity of fighting and the numbers involved.

Or the following seasons 1st game?..went down by transit .17 of us from felling and low fell..stopped off at wakefield after the game for a few beers & splitting up abit .came back to the van to find not a piece of glass left in it (gateshead s&j van hire on the side).windscreen lights, the lot .stayed in the carpark all night .a couple of stray locals got the brunt of our predicament 🤣.next morning got underway and picked up a few lads who'd been arrested at the game and let out early morning .think there was 22 off us crammed on the way back .great days following the toon .

@@garymay799 I nearly got my head kicked in. I'm a Newcastle fan from Cumbria. Accent very much like the Yorkshire one. A large group of gremlins or nme lads asked me time( yes that old one). Heard I wasn't a geordie and about to smack me till I rolled up sleeve and showed tattoo of club. They laughed and apologised. Close thing. God I do miss those days.

I was at that game in the first row of the upper South Stand. I remember Newcastle had been given half the lower south stand. That was a fucking mistake. The two halves of Leeds and Newcastle were at it big time. Newcastle were ripping out seats and taking them with them when they got moved to the Lowfields. Then seats were coming over the fence from there. They were chucking missiles on to the pitch and hitting their own players, daft bastards. I remember seeing Leeds twirling a Newcastle scarf in the kop end... while it was burning. When the ref took the players off, the two chairmen came on the pitch to speak to the crowd. It all went quiet for the Leeds chairman and the crowd heard him out. When the Newcastle guy went to speak the Leeds fans just drowned him out with "Newcastle, wank wank wank" etc. LOOOOL. I remember we played Newcastle three times very quickly because we drew them in the Milk Cup which was two legged. We lost the first leg 1-0, but won the 2nd leg 4-1 after extra time. This game was just after the 2nd leg. The 4-1 is here (it in two parts) kzbin.info/www/bejne/bH21eHWsaNR5mbs

Thanks for sharing mate. A few photos doing the rounds from that day. A book called "Black and White Daft" has anecdotes from 1980-1984 including all the games we played during that time v you. Always entertaining! my first trip to ER was Good Friday 1994. We were met by missiles on route to the ground and loads waiting for us when stepping off the coach. Was a battle to get into the ground and we missed Andy Coles opener. Times have changed but still love the games with you lot. Well done on a great season.

I was there on the Gelderd that day (age 14ish). , Newcastle didn't get removed from the South stand, they climbed over the fence to get out! IMO. It was a November game and fireworks were being thrown into the Geordies from the lower South Stand. The upper South Stand was full of lads with Pringle diamond jumpers on. Theres a photo somewhere.

It was the initial assault on Frank Worthington that triggered it off. The evidence is on the video. Difference was that he didn't make the situation worse by hitting the deck.
