Tony’s heroism is understated by the Media, and I want to thank you, Kevin Smith, for clueing me into this during this wonderful retelling of one of the greatest movies ever made. They (the media) always refer to his heroism as, “he gave his life to defeat Thanos”. The big baddie who was coming to get us. He basically achieved Ultron, but by taking the enemy out rather than just building a shield. “You can rest now Tony.” But it’s deeper than that. Tony was DONE, man. He had tapped out. He GAVE UP AVENGING. He had a family now. His one stipulation on rejoining was that he had to protect what he had now. His family. His inner peace. At all costs. AT ALL COSTS. This was foreshadowing - because he succeeded at all his goals. He undid his greatest mistake, protected humanity from the big baddie, AND paid the ultimate price to make it happen. Yeah, he kept that promise to his family too, but not with him by their side. And THAT’s what he sacrificed. More than his life. He’s more than a hero. He’s a tragedy. He’s a legend that frankly is poised to transcend the screen into pop culture. Holy fuck Feige, how did you turn an admittedly-underrated character in 2008 and turn him into the next Luke fucking Skywalker???

@@ConanTheCimmerian To you it is just a movie...to people like Mike Diamond, Kevin Smith , myself and millions of others, it's a lifestyle. We grew up between the pages of comic books. Some people look up to sports figures, politicians , musicians or actors. But we look up to the comics and the stories that live on the pages. So don't disrespect someone for how the movie makes us feel or think. Such a great movie with highs and lows and everything in between. Yes, exactly. I actually saw some criticism of Cap's decision, that it was a selfish cop-out because he presumably wouldn't have gotten involved or intervened or anything in his timeline with Peggy and this was somehow an abrogation of responsibility, even after all he'd given of himself, and that it isn't compatible with the rules of time travel they established, but I think it is, the only thing changed was that Peggy never married her original husband, so it's possible that another alternate timeline got created but it's also possible that timeline was similar enough to eventually merge back into the original, which is how he's able to be on the bench in 2023
@StopReadingMyNameOrElse5 жыл бұрын
@@BlargeMan I literally don't understand how people can't see this. It was explained and then shown clearly that as long as cap put the stones back, the timeline will fix itself. The reveal of Cap wielding Mjolnir was THE BIGGEST NERDGASM of my whole life! Cap saying, "Avengers; ASSEMBLE!" I saw it 3 times as Imax screens, and the first can never be repeated. The reaction of the audience is something I doubt I'll ever experience again. It was MAGICAL.

I was able to see Endgame on its opening weekend. Never before in my life had I seen an audience react like we all did that day. We laughed, we screamed... And we cried. Thank you for this review, Kevin. And thank you Stan Lee Jack Kirby Steve Ditko

Saw it opening night, and moments like that, Cap wielding Mjolnir, in a packed theater, with everyone totally immersed and emotionally invested in a movie, no, an event like that and the reaction of all, cannot be duplicated, it's a once in a lifetime moment, and my absolute best moment I ever had in a theater watching a movie. So damn cool, thanks Marvel, you guys rock🤘

Rich O i saw the midnight showing and the rerelease of endgame and ive decided that nothing can ever beat this movie. im a fan of many universes and worlds but this by far is the greatest thing i have ever had the honor of witnessing. so many iconic moments and tears shed. the feelings i went through watching this movie...oh my god it was insane. i will NEVER forget how i felt watching it. the environment of a theater just as excited and invested in these comics and these movies as you are is mind boggling, the energy is amazing

I saw this opening night and it saddens that even when I see it again it will never be the same experience and I highly doubt I'll ever experience a sold out theater with a crowd THAT into a movie. I swore the cheers when Cap grabbed Mjolnir were going to blow the roof off the theater. It was amazing.

When Tony Stark died my theater got real quit and you could hear people sniffing and crying. It was so sad especially when they showed Tony Stark's first mini arc reactor that had "Proof Tony Stark has a heart" Etched into it. Any movie that can invoke an emotional response like that is gold. They did a great job with this film.

I'm with your there Kev, I still tear up at the mention of the "on your left" moment - it might be my favourite part of the whole movie. Such a great scene: Cap's beaten down and injured, shield broken but we know Cap' will get up and it's the first time I've wanted him to stay down. He stands, and we get that glorious wide shot of the shrinking light vs the growing dark of the sky reflecting Caps lone stand against the rising tide of Thanos' army, and just as we accept the fate of Cap, the static filled message reaches out to him "on your left" and slowly but surely the army of heroes emerges one by one in their glory punctuated by a moment of levity with Wong retorting Strange's question of "Is this everyone" with "What, you wanted more?" and BAM, Giant Antman, Rocket and Warmachine to round out the team. And the cheery on top; Cap, leading them all and finally getting to say the line we've been waiting to hear for so long: "Avengers assemble" I got chills reliving the memory of this.

The only moment that you missed that was a HUGE moment for me was Cap finally saying Avengers Assemble! The build up to that moment was the stuff of emotional orgasmic bliss for me. Seeing Cap being the last line of defense against Thanos and his oncoming destruction of everything and then the portals opening, EVERYONE stepping through and then you see that shot as Cap looks at Thanos. He’s got a second wind in him. It’s his “I can do this all day” look. And in that moment when you see everyone back and every single last one of them is gunning for Thanos after what he did and Cap finally says those two words, I saw that as an epic version of Tony “knighting” Spider-Man in Infinity War as an Avenger. That was his “everyone standing beside me is an Avenger today” moment and man did it get me.

Can someone actually explain that to me. What did Dr Strange signalling "one" to Tony actually indicate?
@derrickng40175 жыл бұрын
@@OhManTFE There was only 1 way to win this. Tony knew he could take the stones and do the snap… Since there was only 1 path, it meant that there was no alternative. Can't just take one stone and use it or separate the stones like how few have suggested. If that was possible, there'd be more than 1 winning scenario.
@RasoriSubs5 жыл бұрын
@@OhManTFE The way I saw it was that Stark knew what he wanted to do, so he looked at Strange to make sure, and immediately saw Strange signalling back to him as if to say "Yep, this is it, go for it." Truly amazing stuff
@logandarklighter5 жыл бұрын
@@RasoriSubs That's how I read it. To borrow a phrase from another movie franchise - Jack Sparrow to Will Turner "If you were looking for the opportune moment. That was it, mate." So yeah - it's Dr. Strange to Tony - unspoken, but very clear - *"Tony - if you're looking for THAT moment? This is it, right here. The only one we'll ever get."*
@anthonyd5075 жыл бұрын
OhManTFE Strange had already told tony there was only one in 14million outcomes where they beat thanos back in infinity war. Tony built the new gauntlet in such a way that anyone could wear it. When it didn’t work with the hulk, Tony went to his fall back. Himself. Tony knew all along he would never survive the snap. Which is why he didn’t take point when they had all the stones and Thor then banner volunteered. Then, when Panther lost the gauntlet in the fight. Tony took all the stones. Strange signaled the the number one to Tony. And tony knew it was “the endgame”, so to speak. And they both shared a necessarily brief look in each other’s eyes, and Tony knew he would have to sacrifice his life to stop Thanos....for the second time. The first being in New York. Clearly he got lucky in that one but he knew the outcome of this one. The ☝️ signified to Tony it was time to do what strange had seen in the future. And it was time for tony to make the only move that would win. Do the snap, and sacrifice his life for all others. It also plays into his rivalry with cap. And also drove cap to change his ways and live his life. If you remember cap saying to Tony in age of ultron, “You’re not the guy willing to lay down on the wire”. Well that was how tony used to be. When cap saw him “lay on the wire”, as in sacrifice it all. Cap decided to give up being cap and live the life Tony finally had but was ultimately unable to, to honor Tony and to also finally rest. More than you asked but there was a lot going on in that scene and the one that follows.
