This is the second, and last time he'll ever win an Oscar. His life is totally ruined right now, people are gonna pretend he never existed. But I wont, I still will know him as one of the finest actor of his generation and that's how I will remember him until he dies. Is hard to acknowledge that this fine man, is supposed to be a rapist and a pedophile, and then everyone forgets all the great job and good memories in all of us (that sounds bad, I know), but to me, one reason why he was so admired, is because of his talent, and as far as I know, many wanted to work with him. It's a shame what happened to him, is not denial, is just unbelievable. But I will always remember him for his work in the industry. Not his scandals, as many others in the industry have had. But I guess is how MatPat said in his Tide Pods video: Bad news sells more than good news...

Great speech. Fantastic film, and a powerhouse performance. Just watched it today, and it was exactly what I needed. We all need to appreciate the small things, because it only takes a second, and then they are gone. Bravo to everyone involved with American Beauty! Bravo!

“At the Oscars, they called Kevin Spacey’s name for ‘American Beauty,’” Washington said. “I have a memory of turning around and looking at him, and nobody was standing but the people around him. And everyone else was looking at me. Not that it was this way. Maybe that’s the way I perceived it. Maybe I felt like everybody was looking at me. Because why would everybody be looking at me? Thinking about it now, I don’t think they were.” “I’m sure I went home and drank that night. I had to,” Washington said about his reaction to losing. “I don’t want to sound like, ‘Oh, he won my Oscar,’ or anything like that. It wasn’t like that. And you know, there was talk in the town about what was going on over there on that side of the street, and that’s between him and God. I ain’t got nothing to do with that. I pray for him. That’s between him and his maker.” DENZEL WASHINGTON, 2024.

I don't give a shit about what everyone is saying about him, he did what he did but he is still one of the greatest actors there is!

This oscar should be retroactively taken away and given to Richard Farnsworth, considering he was dying from cancer and in so much pain in The Straight Story but delivered an incredible performance, the fact he later shot himself shortly after the oscar ceremony because of his pain and suffering is so tragic. RIP. And thank you David Lynch for giving him one last role that was possibly the best of his entire career.

Yes, and don’t say it’s so sorry for him that he never received proper recognition at the Oscars, although I really like Kevin Spacey’s performance in American Beauty, she’s number 1 for me, but Farnsworth deserved the award more in terms of total merit, and yes, and he gave a touching game, he could have been given an award because many knew that he had not long to live and it would be possible in this way to cheer up the good old man . RIP RICHARD 😞😣😿😭😓🙏

A year later he'd lose Jack Lemmon, a man i think was his moral compass for years. I suspect no one will come forward with any assault charges from that era. When Kevin lost Jack, i think he lost himself.

So many good performances that year. I'm drawn between Spacey and Farnsworth. Both gave absolutely great performances.

1999 Kevin Spacey 2000 Russell Crowe 2001 Denzel Washington They all got one in the end, and deservedly so.
@axr71497 жыл бұрын
Also, Crowe, Washington, and Sean Penn were all nominated in both 1999 and 2001, with Penn eventually winning in 2003 and 2008. Additionally, Kevin Spacey is one of only 6 people to go 2 for 2 for acting (2 nominations, 2 wins). The 5 others to achieve this feat were Luise Rainer, Vivien Leigh, Helen Hayes, Hilary Swank, and Christoph Waltz. Incidentally, Swank won her first Oscar the same night Spacey won his 2nd.

Kevin Spacey - American Beauty. For me, as a lover of movies of many kinds. I simply love films. This film is exceptional. Its truely a one off movie...and its characters like Carolyn are so like people I know and how unhappy they are. And Lester is almost a hero as he sees beyond the middle class trappings and artificiality of suburban life. Theres more to fill your life with than stuff...and American Beauty helped me to understand and realise it. Its a magnificent film. Long live AB!

Except he isn't a pedophile.
@Erin-ce5gs7 жыл бұрын
Yes, I have. A pedophile is exclusively attracted to prepubescent children (i.e children under 10) according to both the dictionary and the DSM. Kevin is not. Thus far, all of the allegations against him have come from young ADULT men, so he doesn't fit the description.
@Erin-ce5gs7 жыл бұрын
Except he hasn't raped anyone. From what I've read, the most he's been accused of is groping people, which, while inappropriate and wrong, is nowhere near the same as rape. If you're referring to the Rapp incident, all Kevin supposedly did was slump on top of him in a drunken haze. Rapp pushed him off, said no and left. Hardly assault.
