I totally get that you guys have such a balancing act to get Andy to eat and drink. You are doing an excellent job in my opinion. You are giving Andy what he needs to stay alive while also giving him opportunities to try new food and drink. I am in fact really impressed and amazed at how Andy has "rules" inside his head for his eating and drinking. The way different foods are only acceptable to him in certain situations. That facinates me. I think double thumbs up to everyone in your family including Dave.

I'm 35 and autistic. His diet sounds very similar to mine as a kid. My diet now is much better so it will hopefully happen for him too. I still have a select preference of food choices and eat the same thing most days but I do eat fruits and veggies now. I would drink chocolate milk out of a bottle when I was probably 4 or 5 years old as well. People need to understand that it's not something you can control. The doctors always told my mom, as long as she is eating something, let her eat it.

I have autism. I had serious autism at about 4 years ago. And now it is very hidden and unseen to most people. How I've done that is not biological or by vacs or diet. It's mental. I started watching loads and loads of gaming videos, making me to start playing a game on my laptop (Minecraft) and kind of got addicted. Along with the addiction, as I was watching people at the same time, I began wanting to play with people. I started with teamspeak and moved onto discord a year later, this increased my social mental health leading me to forget about certain things like what I'm picky about eating and about doing and also helped my communication skills. Since then I wanted to build my own pc since I game on a laptop computer. I was so focused on pcs, I decided to start working and I wouldn't apply for anywhere else other than pcworld. I got a temp placement for Christmas and I earned enough for a gaming pc. Since then I have bought parts, built the pc and it still stands to this day. Along with working, I wanted to start working somewhere enjoyable. I had 2 choices, a pc shop and a theme park (I had also grown a fixation on rollercoasters since I was 6) I now work in thorpe park and has improved my shyness, confidence and communication. Now my fixation on certain subjects have moved from food to entertainment, computers, and games. I don't know if any of this would work for your boy. I know it worked for me but it's something you can think about

Yeah the doc was spot on with avoiding a feeding tube I've got alot of experience working with kids with feeding tubes it's never ending anxiety they pull them out you gotta quickly find it pop it back it in and rush to the ER, they pick at it it gets infected and irritated gotta make an appointment, say goodbye to swimming pools and slip n slides being on the stomach/being summersed in water for long periods of time cause the tube to pop out and oh look your rushing to the ER again the supplement is milk forfeited with vitamins and minerals that would be a nightmare for Andy you'd have to restrict him to a chair at least 3 or 4 time a day to bowl feed and then hook him up to a machine for night feedings where if he tosses and turns too much the machine beeps and you have to reset it if he gets up to pee you have to pause it or he could easily fiddle with the machine and turn it off while you guys are sleeping so much can go wrong and sedation would surely traumatize him so....soda and chips it is

My most severely impacted brother eats on Macaroni and cheese, noodles with butter, Sun chips in the orange bag, cheese balls, peanut butter sandwiches without the crust, French fries without any brown spots, vanilla ice cream, milk, milk with strawberry powder, iced cookies/biscuits, Sprite, water and ketchup sandwiches. That’s it. You are not alone. No meat. No veg. No chocolate. No fruit. He takes meds and is overweight. Still.....it’s better than him not eating or drinking. He has Sprite to take his meds. I refuse to drink anything out of a can. It has to be in a glass. I don’t like sweets. We have 6 boys (5 on the spectrum including me) and we drive my mom nuts. One of my brothers will only eat hot dog buns with ketchup for his school lunch. Only fast food little ketchup packets. Tomato is a vegetable. At home he’s better. Andy is Andy. Makes sense to me. Btw, you don’t have to justify your parenting. That’s what my mom tells people.
