On today's autism family vlog: after our successes getting Andy to try new foods a few weeks ago by bribing him with bell-ringing, we're trying again as we try and establish some of those new foods as daily habits. If he eats his fish fingers, we'll be back at bell-ringing again this week. Also, Forza Horizon 4 on Xbox One has taken over our house, and Andy has found a church in it...

ABOUT KEVIN CHAPMAN
Hi, I'm Kevin Chapman, a full-time KZbinr, author, podcaster, speaker and occasional teacher from Peterborough, UK. As part of my daily vlog I release new videos every day at 5pm UK time with topics including life as an autism family, conventions and geek culture, technology, education and tutorials and entrepreneurship.
When I left my full-time as a Computer Science teacher in July 2017, my partner, Anna, was trapped in our house by our son Andy, who is autistic and had refused to go to school for 18 months. Our daughters Lucy and Amy and our dog Dave hardly saw me because I was always working to try and solve all our problems! Today I'm a full-time content creator who's always at home when my kids get home from school (all our kids!) and Anna has been able to return to university. This channel is the story of my family's ongoing journey as family vloggers! Previously known as lollujo Vlogs.

I had to laugh at 6:55 because of how much he's progressed it's crazy good and Andy replying "Go to Church" down the stairs was so innocent and awesome. I'm at uni doing health care management and I want to continue working with the elderly but watching these vlogs makes me want to work with young adults with autism. Ha ha - great technique for the fish fingers. It works for us! I.e "Lick this bit of broccoli and you can select the wash cycle on the washing machine". Or a firm favourite "Going to school nicely = Robux coins for Roblox". You have to motivate kids like ours. If there isn't something they can gain from doing your request - they simply just won't do it no matter what. Only parents ASC kids understand.

I’ve been doing The same kind of diet as you did for a while now, and honestly don’t know if it’s working for me, but that first week I did it I had a major headache constantly Also , at least in America (the part that I’m from) we call the stuff outside the chicken fingers “breading”

Yo u on my recommended yesterday u video about Keto.....so I been watchin a few others and it is cool Adam be eating more foods. letting him play with the dude bell in the church definitely motivated him to eat....so I been thinking u should offer him more good stuff to eat more food. like new games or days out. Also do the reverse and threaten punishment for not eating to motivate him and switch it up u know? like take away his ipad or xbox...or threaten that u send him to the kennels again if he don't eat new things. I don't know if he like the kennels or not, but u know better than me. just some thoughts. I like ur videos

Andy doesn't respond well to punishment.

What are the Kennels? Also, I don't think Andy responds to punishment so that wouldn't work. Positive reinforcement may work though, but only to a certain degree. I think It needs to be related. For example he was told that the fish has protein and would make him grow to reach the bells. Hence the bell ringing as the reward! Hopefully Andy will slowly add more things in.
