I am doing research as a Prof. of Ethics [ Philosophy ]. Note: I'm 60 and not of your generation; so please do not expect me to know anything at all about whether or not YOU, Kevin, are intellectually far more advanced than most people my age. I don't. Anyway: I'd like to get YOU to be directly participatory in my research. Consider this purely academically experimental and not involving any possibility of remuneration. Please make a video in which YOU ask your existing viewers to watch this video I am going to link here. Why? YOU will understand why once the experiment is implemented. Suffice it to say this: 1. You really have nothing to lose...not even "disappointed existing subscribers"; because this experiment has no yet ever been done with these specific set of perimeters/factors involved. 2. The results will be known within hours to two days max.; and I will make a video which will publish the data / results; which will be very interesting for YOU and many of your existiing subscribers. 3. The video itself contains are realistic novel 'theory' to answer a question some KZbin viewers find interesting and worthy of their time. [ plus; I made this video as funny as a relatively idiotic person like me could make it ]. Thanks for all the tips! Initially, I thought it would be a good idea to knock out as many videos as I can, as fast as I can. About 3 months ago I started posting every day for 10 days straight, after not posting for almost 3 years (due to an injury). I didn't think a video a day would be that bad, but when you factor in the time it takes to mix and bounce an 8-hour track, plus the video editing and rendering time, I felt like I never left my studio. I decided to cut back to twice a week and just keep it consistent. After seeing what a difference consistency makes in as little as 3 months, I wish I could have stayed consistent for the past 3 years. It's ok though. I'll just keep chugging along.
@KevinCheeКүн бұрын
If you can batch your recordings, try and release it separately instead of daily. Sometimes it makes a difference. Try once a week, twice a week, 3 times a week. Or try Mon, Wed, Fri. Don't force yourself into doing it daily if it doesn't fit your schedule.

Well here's the dirty truth that most folks just won't admit, most business fail. So why would KZbin be any different. If anything, the failure rate would be far higher due to the massive number of channels. That is not to say one should not at least try because you don't know until you try. Folks are many times desperate for success and that's the hanging fruit that keeps bringing in views and subscribers. Successful KZbin channels just replicate what's trending and really don't innovate. Because that what our society has basically become. Which just feeds the Monsters in the Machine so nothing really changes.
@KevinChee18 күн бұрын
That's what businesses do really. They are just a slight improvement on top of one another and sometimes, that 1 little neat feature is all it takes to explode their business. imo, it is a much better strategy than reinventing the wheel, unless of course you're already the top in the world.

Regarding under-performing videos, I would just make sure you give them a chance. Unlike almost every other social media platform, KZbin content CAN get discovered weeks/months/years later. I've had some videos bomb when I released them, but then they went on to get more views than average. Typically this happens when you make an evergreen video that isn't for your current audience. Your current viewers ignore it when it is released, but over time, the video can get more views from search traffic.
@KevinChee18 күн бұрын
Yeah good point. I did keep some of them around but I've removed the really old ones, especially the ones I did in my 1st year. The quality isn't that good anymore. But hey, I did not delete them, I just unlist them so I can bring them back anytime. Perhaps another experiment to try.

I'm doing the same test for a year, my idea is the only clue the algorithm can get is the watch duration in comparison to the lenght of the video. According to my data for a 1 hour video I have 37% watch average, which isn't enough to satisfy the algorithm, which mean less promotion. 2 effects to understand : 1) The data for each videos are increasing week after week because only the true-subs remains, the big fans that watch a lot of the content. So you could expect KZbin to notice this high data and promote it to new people, but no. 2) With less promotion you don't get enough new viewers to compensate the natural loss of interest of your subs, so week after week you make less views despite of the data going better (point 1). Then KZbin discreetly remove the inactive subs everytime you publish a new video, so when you don't get any promotion the total number of "new subs" per video is negative, so the algorithm think this video is gonna destroy your amount of subs and stop promoting it even to your own sub. When I say "promoting" I mean "showing the video to someone else". I lose exactly 4 subs per publication since a year. So if the video doesn't immediatly make 4 subs my total is immediatly negative. Of course I have a 5% sub ratio to new viewers. So to get 4 subs I need to be promote to 80 new people, the issue is even with 40000 subs my new video only got promoted to about 100 new people everytime. So my potential of new subs is very low. 5 years ago any random video was promoted to at least 12000 new persons, I have these data. Ofc my total subs is growing but it's only due to the shorts, that doesn't make money. Basically I get more subs and views by publish a random short with no effort than a full quality video. According to data people who activated the bell do receive the videos, for my channel it's 10% of my sub count, which is 80% of the recent subs, among them 90% watch the video, for about 80% of it's duration on average, I think these value are "high", but it's not enough to be promoted, maybe YT think only 10% of my subs activated the bell, which is low, but in my case 90% of my subs are inactive because they are from the past (very old channel). There is also something to consider, the average people (like the algorithm) can't understand the effort you put to publish a video, my project at the moment is publishing a video game playing by AI, the problem is the voice of the AI is so realistic some people think it's a regular gameplay. Those who know the game can get the references, for the average people it's not that special. But when I publish a trash content I notice it makes more views, probably because we value too much the effort, or because people don't validate effort anymore. Here I follow you channel because you also provide data, so I can compare, but for an average person it's not interesting (it doesn't have to attract everybody and it can't by essence as it's technical). The problem is I don't believe we are only a few hundred on Earth to search for that content, even if we consider many youtubers talked about it before it's suspicious it doesn't make more views. The idea is people are now on Tiktok but on average the world is more connected than before (asia, africa) so the amount of people online is growing. In anycase I notice that today when I try a new subject I rapidly lose some subs, it wasn't the case before, and if I focus on 1 subject the views are decreasing. I suspect the algorithm dislike series, it can't sort the videos correctly and suggest the first episode before the second one, so the episode 30 makes no views at all (except for the bell users), if the first episode was still promoted it wouldn't be a problem but today it seems it only considers the 2 last videos of a channel, which is paradoxal because if it was really the case it should see their data reaching extreme values (99.9% likes, 80% watchtime). Which suggest some sort of limitations by the algorithm. I have some recent subs that unsubbed because I talked about animation, telling me I tried to be what I'm not, while my channel used to talk about animation for years, it means YT never suggested my animated videos to these people, which isn't normal as they were active subs for a few months. The result is the video that took me 3 weeks wasn't promoted at all, despite the high quality value in comparison to the others. That problem could kill a channel as you have no more options. I'm basically losing money producing my videos today, while it wasn't problematic before 2019. I published the top 1 video about the game RollerCoaster Tycoon worldwide, it was on the top list for 4 years, making 2000 views per day. Since october 2019 this video barely makes 20 views per day. It was brutal. I then published a video related to this game with the same value and I made 600 views, when I search for videos of this game I notice YT promotes some dedicated channel to the game, but they "never" make as many views as I did before, in fact they rarely goes over 80k. Which isn't economicly profitable as building a great park takes dozens of hours. In fact even my top 1 video wasn't profitable if you do the math, but at least I got many views and subs from it. Currently my average for 500 videos is still 39000 views, but my recent video rarely overpass 3000, the community is stronger, the quality is higher, so the conclusion is this is the algorithm. Maybe it check the views and say "3000 is way below your 39k average so it's bad, I don't promote this". Something like that. It means my average in the past was over 39k views per video. It also means that anyone producing less quality content probably can't make more than a few subs per video today, which will lead to the end of YT. Because people can't evolve if they don't see any good result and give up. It would be logical to give up in 2024 when you see how hard it is, since even old creators struggle with their experience, in fact even some giant channels are dying, and it's not a problem of quality/originality. It's not logical for old creators to search solutions in the new creators, except if the new creators have different data, which isn't the case, they all struggle.
@KevinChee18 күн бұрын
A few thoughts came into my mind while reading this. First, I think you're overthinking it. Even reading this makes me feel like it is too complex. You need to simplify your thoughts, don't make it too hard on yourself. Second, it could be that you have had a taste of success (millions of views) and now, you feel stuck because you can't replicate that. This is also why you started analysing every possibility, trying to get back those viral videos you had all these years. KZbin changes all the time, not because it is trying stuff but because viewers demand different content. It is natural for viewers to get bored of the same kind of content, I think that is fair. Third, you can probably use this script and create a video out of it :)
@FoXMaSteR00117 күн бұрын
@@KevinChee Ty for the reply ;D I did made a video about it, it made 2100 views in 6 months. Only 20 views comes from new viewers. It took 8 months to collect data and 1 month to produce the video itself. Like ratio is 199/3. Total income : 5$ The only good think is my subs understood the issue and some donated for help, but I dislike the idea as with a normal promotion the video would be profitable, the data are high, I don't understand why it shouldn't be profitable for YT to promote it more, considering the data proofs the video is profitable. Or maybe the video wasn't profitable for them ? Then so they should provide us the real target data, it would be good for us and for them. We wouldn't waste time on videos that are doomed by the algorithm, because it's their job to promote content depending of what people like, not ours. Here they are telling us "Well, we are experts, we checked the entire world and only 1000 persons can be interested by your content, if we promote it to 2000 persons the probabilty they'll watch it less could decrease it's profitability so we only promote it to 1000, lol". I can't believe that 😂

Does removing under performing videos from channel not affect the algorithm, Kevin?
@KevinChee18 күн бұрын
good question. I don't know if it is a coincidence but my channel did take off after I unlist those under performing (and unrelated) videos. It is not instant but it did happen after a month or two. I can't say for sure if that affects the algorithm because it is not measurable. But 1 of my theory is that KZbin might 'understand' my channel a little more after I removed those videos. But I have no proof.
