When people look back at their lives after spending monumental time as a "creator" they may ask themselves, "I never begged people for money on the street from strangers so why was I so compelled to spend my energy and viewers time by asking "please like and subscribe" especially at the beginning of a video when the viewer hadn't even had a chance to determine if their content was worthy of a subscription. The industrial complex of the internet has people doing some strange things.
@KevinChee26 күн бұрын
It certainly has. Getting attention is a dangerous act. It has always been that way in society but the rise of social media enhanced it.

I like your authentic take about making videos. You're not saying the dame rehashed content about thumbnails, hooks, title and the rest. Yes I can so relate when I watch a video I can relate to and has a great way of storytelling I'm more compelled to subscribe. and watch the entire video. Thanks for offerring a fresh take on things. This new youtuber with less than 100 subs appreciates.

So true. “Quality” is relative after a certain point, but relatability is important over the long term. I’ve seen a recent video released in SD with over 1M views and the channel had over 1.5M subs. Each video needs to be a tool to learn and improve. You learn who watches and returns, then you can start focusing your content.
@KevinChee18 күн бұрын
Precisely. I see most channels just blindly copying one another with little to add, all for the sake of getting views. It does grow the channel but it is hard to pull in the right viewers. Not my choice tbh

I do not wonder why people don't subscribe to my channel. My videos simply are not worthy. tHanks for the video

Channels have to be there to help their viewers. It could be education, entertainment or whatever. But you must know your viewers. Storytelling and authenticity are important. But talking about yourself usually does not interest others. Many people don't understand this--b/c they are egotistical.

If people go like -- hey, I like your video, I'll check this person out -- and the next videos you post out deliver and they see it more often, that's how they get to subscribe to your channel, I feel. My journey, however, was a unique one, because I got mine from locals who knew me at the city but never knew my KZbin channel til much later on. It's so much easier to get subs on shorts than it is in person, but that's what made my journey unique. Do it when people watch your long-format videos rather than your shorts. It'll pay off tremendously, that's what makes KZbin KZbin! 🎉🎉🎉 Cheers! Don't give up!

Thats what Im trying to do the second try around. If I want to paint or draw what I like I need to make the topic something people will find value from. 😊
@KevinChee25 күн бұрын
Yup, they need a reason to paint and draw. They don't want to know what they can draw, they want to know why and how that drawing helps them

Hi Kevin! I think you are resonating with your viewers because your delivery and personality come across as quite sincere and honest. Just noticed that people on Reddit commented on that, & I would agree with this. Would you ever think of doing some consulting? Your stats are showing that you are doing very well out in YT-land - well done. The Udemy course is a steal in price but what about something longer? I notice you are in Australia. Me too. I am not a gamer (sorry there seems to be such a focus on giving examples in gaming). I have 2 channels. The main is on sewing & the other on travel. I use story telling all the time in my videos & scripting & I have really improved my video quality. I just want to improve my results so badly. I'd really be interested in knowing if you would want to work with someone like me.
@KevinChee25 күн бұрын
Consulting is something that has crossed my mind but I don't think I can do 1-on-1. I am coming up with something so make sure you sign up to my newsletter. I'll update through there.

Great topic - and Subscription is just a momentary acknowledgement - over a period of one year I got 1K subscribers - but in this content overload era - very few get time to watch the videos I post. Which I can totally understand - I am not finding time to watch the channels I subscribed to after starting my channel. Some topics and some videos - they get views and some do not - so the views and subscriber mismatch will be very high as the KZbin grows.
@KevinChee24 күн бұрын

I like how you always try new things with your videos. I wonder what the retention rate looks like in this video with your sharp cut at the end? As I’ve mentioned before, you’re great at storytelling and connecting with your audience. Thanks for the inspiration. Off-topic, I’m surprised Inside Out 2 is actually better than Inside Out 1 (but don't follow the path of Toy Story which should have stopped at Toy Story 3). Another cartoon our family enjoys is Bluey-so relatable to all ages.
@KevinChee25 күн бұрын
retention is about the same, most people drop off after 4-5 minutes so they never did reach the end lol. Yeah, Inside Out 2 feels nostalgic to me for some reason. Kinda makes me think about the times where there were less responsibilities and happier. People always think and talk about the past because those are happier days and Inside Out 2 explained it really well by saying it is ok to be feel less joy, it is part of life and we need to learn to accept it. Inside Out 3 will probably talk about adulthood I guess! Or college life. Toy Story - I agree, should've ended at 3. 4 (and soon 5) just doesn't make any sense.

Hi Kevin - very insightful and thought provoking as always. As I dive deeper into creating videos and tutorials I have paid attention to my viewers comments. Over time I read that folk wanted longer videos with less voice overs. So I changed. Now I create tutorials and talk about my thoughts as I paint. I also have short field trips which include the reference photo. I tell stories about my time as an art teacher. And the challenges I faced with art. These are echo's of the past comments by my students. I think I have a more dedicated group of viewers as a result. They gather from around the world on a Sunday for the live premier. Lots of messages between them and a real sense of community just for a while. See you on the next one - Paul 😃😃

my channel is a music video channel so i can't talk like that in it so i have to edit it into the music video with the lyrics of the song and images of what i make
@KevinChee25 күн бұрын
Stories can be told through great music and videos too. I remember the start of Pixar's movie 'Up' where it shows the main character growing up with his loved one, from happy to sadness, all in a matter of minutes with no words, just music and video. It was so impactful that I can still remember it. A lot harder to do of course but it is possible.
@dragonfairytail25 күн бұрын
@@KevinChee I also do that, making a story with music and video, which is also the case with most Amvs (anime music video). the translation of my first comment was not translated very well. I always translate what I type because I'm not very good at spelling the letters in English

Do you think a music channel (like mine) would get watch time over subscribers? Or is there way to convey storytelling without me speaking? 🤔
@KevinChee24 күн бұрын
I'm not an expert in this field but possible I guess? Best way to find out is to look at your competitors and see if they are channels who hit the targets you want (views, subs). Then, study their videos and learn from them.
