There is an advantage of diversifying bank accounts, cross-collateral. Some banks (especially credit unions) use cross-collateral to protect themselves. What this means is if you get into financial trouble and all your accounts are at the same credit union, they treat them all as one. In other words, if you get behind on your credit card they may repossess your vehicle.

My answer was “Just tell me How much it is going to cost me per month for a period of 60 months with $5,000 down payment for a Mazda3 GS with automatic transmission.” the salesman answer was “It is a policy of the dealership; I have to know how much you want to pay per month, maybe the monthly payment is too high for you” I’ve said “Just tell me how much per month and I’ll decide if it is too expensive for me” He said, “Sorry it is the dealership policy.” I’ve said Goodbye and left, he ran after me in the parking lot and said Ok,..Ok I,ll give you a price. My car's equity is not my only savings account. I plan my spending so that I can put cash money aside in a savings account. That reasoning only works with people whose only source of potential spare cash is the resale value of their vehicle. I will not trade my car in prematurely just to "unlock the value" of my trade in order to complete a new vehicle purchase. I prefer to drive my vehicles for several years until the resale value is a two digit number.

I still have my 1997 Chevy pickup with 387,500 miles. I was actually surprised at the Blue Book value because I figured it really would be a two digit number, (well, OK, three) but it actually ran to four. 😁 Still keeping it, though because it meets a current need that I just don't want to spend a bunch of money for. When it dies to the point that repairs are more than its value I'll give it a decent burial.

@KevinHunter 3 жыл бұрын
Have your homework done in advance so you know fair market values, but yes, negotiating on the lot isn't a bad idea at all. They have no leverage over you because as you just said, you can leave anytime you want. They know it. They will keep wanting to go inside, but just ignore that. In fact, if they say it a little too often, just say, "Go get your info. I'll wait right here for you." It's your decision if you want to wait or not, but I do this all the time.

@stephaniehunter3280
@stephaniehunter3280 3 жыл бұрын
It's what the manufacturers do to drive sales when customers aren't coming in. Instead of dropping prices, because they always want prices to be high, they use a financing incentive to get you in the door. Every time you see a very low interest rate advertised, you should always know it's a bad time to buy a car in terms of car prices. Sluggish sales create promotions, and promotions are done in a way to benefit the car dealer and the manufacturer the most, while giving up the least to the consumer. Hopefully that makes sense. I've never gone in to a dealer on a rate incentive, ever.

Car Dealers use all sorts of gimmicks to get you "in the door". If there finance is lower than a big bank its because they are making up the difference & then some with an inflated vehicle valuation. If you like a vehicle at a cheap finance dealer, get a loan approval elsewhere. Then make an offer in line with the actual vehicle value but make sure they don't bullshit you another way like removing warranties etc....

@@KevinHunter Isn't it true that they can still sell those as "new" cars since they've never been licensed?
@KevinHunter
@KevinHunter 3 жыл бұрын
Yes, the car still sits in the "new" category and it's due to the fact that the vehicle title was never transferred. It takes a title transfer to change ownership, and when ownership moves from the dealer to the consumer, it now becomes "used." This is a good thing to know for the future on used cars as well, because I've seen plenty of car deals that fell apart after the deal was done. A persistent customer got the dealer to take the car back. What was the biggest reason they agreed to do it in the end? The state had not yet transferred the title (new or used), and the vehicle was still titled in the dealers name. They contacted the state, and cancelled the transfer request, putting everything back the way it was.

If not, then you’re just an order taker who’s probably working 60 hours a week to sell 10 cars a month and just barely covering your draw. It’s funny tho since clearly these videos don’t matter in the end. Right now cars are selling at MSRP and even more with dealer markups and people are STILL buying cars. Dealer profits and commissions are at an all time high. The dealers and the sales people hold the power in the end because people are never going to stop buying cars.

I'm curious why not simply ask the salesman to stop all their training bs if they really want to sell me a car? That seems to take far less time. Why not go in with a contract, ask them if it works, and if so great, if not, walk. Js.

In that case, do you think Andy and his giant sidekick would advocate that the salesperson take the time to verify whether or not their client’s lender reports to all the bureaus, or would they be inclined to treat that exception as a universal truth and steer the client towards their marked up rate through their lender?

Ten seconds into the trained drone's response to the first question, you're already being switched to the path he has in mind for you. That's manipulation, not service. Notice all the use of questions where he's digging for a "yes" answer? They sound innocent, but he is SOOOO setting you up. "Would that be fair?" "Would that bother you at all? (Of course not -- but he just described something he has absolutely no intention of delivering)" Get the customer saying "yes" repeatedly, and they're primed to keep doing it when you drop the hammer.

Well, it’s been since about 1998 since I worked in my last dealership an back then I never met a salesman who was making that kind of money. Usually the owner would pay a GM that kind of money to keep the salesmen hungry and deal with the day to day problems that dealerships have.

OMG! I went to a new ar lot about 40 years ago that had a similar salesperson. I literally left, then went back the next day to talk to another salesperson. Who has time or patience for this type of thing? When I went back, I hadn't even driven the car, yet the one I wanted had the engine, Trans, color, etc. that I wanted. I asked that salesperson to draw up the paperwork, I financed it with the dealer, and was out of there in about 20 minutes. I can't stand the psychobabble BS! It's a huge turn-off, and serves no purpose at all. I gave them the down payment, grabbed the keys, and was back to my day. That was service, it was appreciated, and without wasting my or his time. Very sadly, I heard the 1st salesman committed suicide a couple of weeks after that. I'm not kidding. That was long ago, and I haven't heard a salesman like this since. I thought my story might be helpful to someone. At least for myself, all that banter is a good way to get me out the door, without selling me a car. Had I not really needed a compact car at the time, and they not been down the street, I wouldn't have ever gone back. Today if I was buying a new car, I'd go to the manufacturer's website, choose the options I want, and have it delivered. Who thinks teaching people this crap is a "good idea"? The guy talking about the credit with them vs a credit union or bank lied, and perhaps committed fraud, which can wind the salesperson in jail. That would be interesting to look up. I would never buy any car from anyone talking to me like this! For those who don't know, the credit reporting agencies aren't concerned with who you financing your car. Shop for rates at your bank, banks online and at the car lot. Rates have recently gone up, but last I checked were at most 4.75%. Some car loans are around 2%. A car salesperson nor a realtor are NOT who you go to for financial information of any type. Go make an appointment at a bank. On another note, Can these guys unlearn this garbage??? It rings like that car salesman I had the unfortunate experience of meeting about 40 years ago. So gross to hear the same garbage again. Eww!!! 🤢🤮

Funny you say that. One of the biggest crooks I’ve ever seen at a dealership was a “minister”. He would literally get down on his knees with customers and pray with them about buying the vehicle. The area was rural and had churches on every corner and he had his game plan and could see church folk coming a mile away.

I would not buy a car from either of these high-pressure sales guys. They come off as very dishonest with their customers. And, they try to degrade the vehicle you are having serviced which was most likely purchased in that dealership. I would have said, " Well, yes, i will most likely go purchase an XXX for my next vehicles as these YYY ones are pretty unreliable.

I'm having trouble reconciling Andy's inconsistent logic- on one hand, he advocates owning a newer car because it has less wear and may still be under warranty....fair enough. But in the scenario where a customer wants to go with a competitor's vehicle with less mileage, he claims the higher mileage vehicle is the better buy because it's already depreciated more. Seems like the logic shifts to fit the agenda.

At best, Andy and Steve seem to employ biased arguments that may be technically correct under very specific circumstances, yet present them as universal truths. I’ve been extremely critical in the comments of both “trainers’” videos for years, but it’s so much easier to point people directly to your videos where you explain how the buyer is being set up. Thanks!

CLASSLESS; I have my Salesman Class within the dirt in my pinky mail than this DISGRACE of a Sales Trainer... He is exactly why the car sales industry perception is one level higher or lower than a dirt bag and I think 99% of the consumers out there I will agree. In my 40 year sales career earning quite the six-figure income, I have never once had to use any of those tactics (mostly Lies). Hey sales persons number one job is to educate on why their product or service is the best value to the buyer in the short but especially long-term as cost overtime makes things less expensive than going cheap. My blood just absolutely boiled watching this as I actually knew it was so true that these young car salesman that dealerships fit out like bubblegum go through these hard core training like multi level marketing. Disgrace to our most Prestigious Profession.
