I had painted a creek and it didn't look quite right, and I had searched google and KZbin many times looking for ways to fix it, and now I know that I was using too much blue. I would love to see more paintings of streams and rivers like this one. You've done an awesome job, and I like how you do your under painting. Thanks for sharing.

You've inspired me to pull out the brushes and easel and get my brain cranked up again on painting.. its been a while since I've painted.. I've forgotten how I did a lot of the effects and it has me a bit frustrated at the moment.. Have to get my touch back.. its not like riding a bike.. Hey Kevin, my name is H and I am 16, from the UK and I absolutely love to paint. I watch your videos ALOT and I have learnt so much. I normally paint in Acrylic but I have recently started in oils. I just have two questions. Firstly, when you do the underpainting, do you underpaint the shadow or the midtone or just the majority colour of that aspect of the piece. Secondly, I am having an issue with the flow of my oil paints, even when I thin them down, I have to use a lot to cover such little area. Will priming the canvas with medium help with this aspect. Once again love your videos. Hoping one day to attend a workshop!!

Hey, thanks for your support! I usually underpaint with the darkest color first. Then add the highlight and mid-color over that. When you cover your canvas, you will have to really work the underpainting into the canvas, then the rest of the color will stick easily. I only prime the sky and water areas with clear get and white. The medium will increase your ability to blend the colors in the sky and water. However, having a medium over the dark areas such as grass, would impede our dark underpainting. The medium would also thin the dark base coat. This would make highlighting more difficult.

You are so talented it's crazy. Composition and depth is what I'm most impressed with. Anyways, I can't paint with oils because of the smell and my kids so I was wondering if you might want to do an acryllic just as a study and teach us how to paint with that. It's a whole other ball game if you haven't tried it, you can't cover the first time even with the thickest most pigmented paints. So try that on for size.
