17:50 I've only been painting for less than 4 months and I've discovering that! If you apply more paint to objects closer to you and less in the shadow even tho it's only mm's difference, there IS a difference. I found it by accident, I put a blob of paint on a rock and found the blob created a shadow where I'd left a bead of paint off the edge of my brush.

You are super observant! It took me years to learn what you found out in such a short time! I believe it's called" Texture" . I paint with thin paint called "glazes" like the old masters! no texture! anything that stands out from the surface- does make a huge difference- like thick paint! I have taken it a step farther! I am experimenting with a raised surface, like embossing before painting, using epoxy putty to give it extra depth! especially in the foreground before applying my oil paints. Final detail is then added with thicker paint! You are definetly on the right track!

There is no words to describe how amazing you are. When you describe what you are doing in your painting, you transmit such a profound harmony that it catapults you into a parallel world, it almost seems to me that I am breathing this clean air, feeling the drops of the waterfall touching my face. What you are able to convey is something that only an artist with a capital A can do.

I’m a beginner-painting for a year and a half! What u say about ppls reaction and ur hoped for reaction resonates with me because people say, of some of my paintings that it makes them feel calm or peaceful! Your intention u say is second nature but I’m not truly there where I’ve decided unconsciously, that I want to always paint that painting that has a calming effect! Ty, always for sharing! I have learned so very much from you!

This was very enlightening. I have always wanted to paint like Monet,my favorite artist. Lately i've really been enjoying Kandinsky. My eyes and mind doesn't see the same way as they do. It would be interezting to be Kandinsky and see music as color or like Monet and run inthe same circles of so many talented men of the day stepping out into a new way of painting. After listening to you I realize that I will never paint like those two men.I have spent my life being just "the Roger" and I will go one painting like "the Roger". I am the only one i have to please with my work and get enjoyment in doing so.

Just the multi-colored foreground of rocks and moving water alone would be a bada$$ painting. The number of "hidden" faces in the rock face is awesome. I know they werent intentional, but I can't un-see them now. Awesome work as always. One of the best teachers of them all. 🤘👽 (spoiler alert.... that Norse God in the overhanging cliff on the left at mid canvas, ALMOST looks intentional.)

Believe it or not!, I think there is better way! I think Andrew is the best in the world! I've been painting in oils ,off and on most of my life. I'm light years behind Andrew's work, but have come up with an idea, that will take it even farther! I paint mainly in glazes on plywood panels. Before the final painting I use epoxy putty for a "raised" surface similar to embossing or sculpture! AMAZING RESULTS! 3-D effect? Please let me know what you think!

But these are the works that stay with me, they are impressive. am also glad you paint so much detail, i like paintings when you take a step forward. If you have to step back they are usually badly painted.

I haven't been able to work for a few years now... About to turn 44 and some days I can hardly walk. So, I've scoured your videos, put them on loop, hung pictures of work by Albert Bierstadt around my studio. I zoom in and watch your brush work like an obsessed stalker from behind that bush over there, really listen when you talk about color choices and mixes, educated myself in color theory. And I've poured around 5000 hours into painting. I've been painting over the same 20 canvases for 4 years... And after all that... I've went from what looked like it was painted by a preschooler in arts and crafts, to almost not wanting to paint over it. Which by my standards, means I've come a long way. Yes, I became frustrated and disillusioned many times. I like to work, build things, and such... But those days are behind me, and I've finally let go and embraced art like I never have before. Some of the things I say to myself while I paint are echoes of your words... Mainly, earn your details, get up and veiw your art, and stick to the 3 steps and stop myself from jumping ahead. Thank you for all these videos Andrew. While I can't afford anything over buying paint and cheap brushes, I can say I've come a long way because of you... lol And Albert Bierstadt...

You sound a lot like myself! You have such great potential! Self taught by observing other people's renditions. Love the old masters ! Since getting on S.S.I I now have the time and money to really explore my dreams as an artist! Painting rocks have been a real challenge! I paint in glazes , for texture am experimenting with a " raised" surface simular to embossing. Made with expoxy putty! Makes super nice 3-D rocks and trees!. The internet is a super neat way to get new ideas for Painting. Andrew Tischler is the best artist I have ever found!

@@robertchilders8698 he is very good. I just can't do texture in my art. It annoys me in some obscure way. When I see others do it, I like it... But not in my work. Which is why I'm such a fan of Bierstadt. His work was SMOOTH. Well, to be fair, they hand polished paintings to give them glossy finishes back then, so smooth was the only solution. I still play with textured brush work, but I always end up wiping it off.. You must be about 20 years older than I am by the sound of it. Bad back? Mine is pretty bad, but sometimes it thinks it isn't. Then I hurt myself... I have been thinking about doing sculpted paintings actually, I'm a fairly good sculptor, and I could see texture being pleasing to see in that scenario. Epoxy you say? Hmmm, I must look into this further. Thank you for the suggestion.

@@sylasblack3459 My reply has dropped out! trying to explain all my techniques! It explains how I go from no texture to texture ! gives it amazing 3-D effect!. Bierstadt is my old favorite, same as was Thomas Kincade! I am disabled and can hardly walk without pain.! at 85 years old, it gives me a new life to look forward to! Would be glad to share my new found Technics with you!. So I won't be a lone wolf!
