Instructors being responsible for the success of proven students, and only redoing components of training where help was needed are huge takeaways. Once again, educational entertainment

Sir, in no way do I want to sound disrespectful or unappreciative. I find it amazing the accuracy and effectiveness of a fine tuned machine and individuals carrying that out. When the higher ups essentially werent clear on the endgoal. War on terror slows it down, they dont have any qualms about the evil and cowardice they use. I wish people were more open to the facts of what caused all this

Said a key thing there. Im not talking semantics, but many have said the same words. In fact Bush jr said "We will rid the world of evil" Not only was that hype and intentional misdirection. Unless he meant Chaneys back yard. I dont know that they have a scope strong enough to pinpoint evil. I have my own thoughts on the origin of it.

Interesting podcast. I was with a scout platoon at 7th Infantry Division, Ft.Ord, CA in the early ninties and we used to do camo and concealment exercises all the time. Great training for getting in and setting up your FFP. I can't believe it has been thirty years since I last handled an M-24. Time flies. Great talk Kevin.

It's not mine, but a favorite that I think you'd agree with, "If I can't show you the math, it's just my opinion." An instructor told me that and I don't recall who he got it from.

Great episode, might have to listen to this one a few times as the details in sniper school were precise and went over my head at times. Still heavily appreciated. I don't usually ask questions, just give praise for this awesome content - but I was wondering if you could expand upon the different SF groups cultures during your time? You mentioned 10th being low-visibility at the time, just wondering how far things went with different groups and mentalities. Anyways great work Kevin, this is a much needed audio book that had to be written about your life!

Sounds all very familiar. Similar conversations were going on in the UK military over that period. A heck of a lot of progress was made over that time. In truth it was well overdue. Standards have to be met, but it really is all about the training cadre's ability to teach well and get the best out of each individual student. If a student really isn't suited or able then thats something else. Units need all the weapon systems which includes good shots. Some people just have natural ability, but most can be taught to be pretty handy. Then some take it to another level. Its quite impressive how good someone can be when they are really tuned in after a shooting concentration. The big ask is often getting the system to keep pace, if even allowed to take up some of the progress that is there for the taking. Civilian shooters quite often lead the way. Good mathematics gets you close, the art gets you spot on. The art takes quite a bit of practice.

Great stuff as always Kev, I like your views on putting the onus on instructors to get their students to pass the course rather than fail it. Unfortunately, it's a common misperception "oh the course is so hard we only have a 15% pass rate" When you assess the cost of running a course, especially for what should be motivated people, the success rate % should be more important. And, you don't need to practice an Irish accent ha ha.

As a sniper. And instructor. what do you choose for a 0. I really really like to use my 36 yd 0 which gives me my hold to 300. I am from a marine background. But never did sniper course. Though I can take my mark 12 and group bullets up the size of a volleyball at 500 yards Almost no effort. But my real question is as a sniper what 0 do you use to dial in your weapon specifically 308 Thank you so much. Tons of respect sincerely Baker family in Maine

@@badxradxandy I Spoke on specific. 308. I am very proficient with the majority of calibers. I was just wondering his personal preference. My favorite to shoot is my ruger precision 338 Laupa that at 100.. But at almost $7 around here in Maine. That takes the fun out of it. Other than that is my Radical arms blue line mark 12 . But for the 308 it is a savage arms Tactical 308 before the accutrigger internal mag.

Speaking as a civilian with 0 time in sniper school, what is the value of teaching GB’s/Rangers/Delta how to shoot a rifle with iron sights for 4 days in sniper school? That makes zero sense to me, considering those guys have already gone through basic and some sort of combat infantry school. Sounds like a waste of time and effort. We get a lot of “well that’s the way it’s always done” excuses from upper management in the corporate world, and it’s absolutely self defeating. I don’t think you have to constantly re-invent the wheel, but constant improvement and revaluation of techniques should be considered if they are value added.
