Have one, I thought it was a barn jack, well we lifted up a 32000 pound bob cat to fit a hydraulic line in the back of the machine. What a tool, we are a recovery company of railroad ties working in Morgan KY. What a tool, we will send you a video today on this great tool

They are great jacks, you just have to be sure to complete full strokes, especially during lowering, that handle can snap back with a lot of force. Thanks for sharing the progress, be well my friend.

I just bought a Simplex No.185 Jack from a metal scrap yard today while selling my scrap aluminum beer cans (60 cents a pound today !). I didn't know anything about it or that it was used for railroad tracks. I asked the owner if he had any old-style car bumper jacks (they are handy for removing fence posts, etc), and he said to go look in his "Treasure Shop"... no bumper style jacks there, but this Simplex 185 caught my eye... took me a few minutes to figure out how it worked, and it works just fine... cost me $20... no handle, but a good 1" steel pipe should work great ! I'm going to clean it up a bit, and try using it to pull out a couple of bushes my wife wants removed... I would get stuck in the yard using my truck, so I will give it a go !

Hi Kevin....doing research on this jack. Your video popped up. Very interesting! Like that you warned about being careful. I was out antiqueing. At an estate sale...noticed a wooden like pendulum. Asked about it. The men told me it went to the railroad jack that was next to it. Lol.. Well..I bought it $ 60. Thought it was awesome! If ever used...metal rod then the beautiful wooden one! Thank you for your info! 😃

Don't forget to oil those old jacks and inspect the teeth and mechanism for rust. I use spray moly lube on mine. UNDERSTAND THE MECHANISM BEFORE LIFTING ANYTHING IMPORTANT. I use some flat scrap steel with a piece of chain for easy removal as a jack pad. 6x6 cribbing and old car and truck rims work nicely too. The best jack for containers if you can score one is the "telephone pole version) with a chain grab hook on top of the ram. I use that and a J-hook with chain (wonderful to own even if you don't own a wrecker!) to grab fittings and edges.

I used a skidsteer to lift my container for leveling. I buried thicker 2" pavers and placed porch/deck piers on the pavers with treated wood for shims and placed these at 4 corners plus under the middle. This was years ago and still no cracking. My container sits about 12 inches above the ground. I'm Florida Panhandle where we have occasional light flooding. I think you should have spread the load with more bricks.

Try replacing the patio paver with a real pre-made cement Pier block. That would require some more digging but only in a very small spot and actually would have a chance of spreading the weight of that container all the way to the ground in a larger area then a broken patio paver would give you.

I did something similar with my shed. I used hydraulic jacks though and cinder blocks along with thick wood blocks to spread out the load. I recall my brother having a 50 ton railroad jack. The thing was humongous. That would have been handy.
