I saw a video in which a former MS employee got one of those scam calls from India saying his Windows PC was infected. He recorded the call and let them get on his computer, but he had set up a virtual machine, so they couldn’t do any damage. The scammer even got his supervisor on the call, and both of them got pretty frustrated that they couldn’t open the things they were trying to open. It was pretty humorous.

Considering how complex the idea of Virtualization is, I’ve always been so impressed by how intuitive and easy to use Virtualbox actually is. I’ve been using it for years and although I’ve heard of VMware and other software I’ve really had no practical reason to look elsewhere. Virtualbox has always just clicked in my mind the first time I used it. It shows you that software that does something complex doesn’t actually need to be complex to learn and operate. In my mind it’s a case of great software design!

Installed it for fun and it was enjoyable to get it running and working on the first go. A little confused about writing in a username, password then when starting it up it asked me to do the same again. I loved the startup window asking about softwares to install. As I like to work on hobbies I was surprised it had Krita and OBS in it's list. I don't get how they made installing and setting up an operating system look like counting to 3 compared to simply installing and playing a game.

My favourite software virtualisation tool! VirtualBox is great for running Linux, any version of Windows, BSD, Haiku OS, React OS, etc. You can run so many older OS's with this too! I love this program because it works on Linux, meaning I can use Windows specific software in a VM on Linux without having to reboot into Windows, or install Windows. As of right now, I use VirtualBox version 6.1, which I find easier than the newer 7.0, although I guess I'll have to update eventually. I don't believe version 7 is available yet for most Linux distro's. Keep up the fantastic work with your videos, we really appreciate it. :)

Kevin, you didn’t talk about installing the guest tools or the extension pack for virtual box. Other than that, this is a beautifully explained tutorial.
@rufmeister9 ай бұрын
Be very careful with the extension pack. It is not free, it is covered by an Oracle license, and is only free/allowed for personal use. That doesn't sound too bad, but Oracle is known to keep track of VB/EP downloads, hoping to find one that they can somehow track back to a company, and then hunt down that company for an audit. Should not technically be problem for a home user just playing around, but it means that any skills learned about VB would not be useful on the job market, and if you bring a laptop to some kind of company (employer or just visiting for other reasons) and it contains VB, you are a potential financial liability, putting Oracle's crosshairs on them.
