I used to race the Mardave versions of these (well the V12 hotrods) 20 years ago. A trick we used to use to stop grip roll was to put some thick CA glue on the outside edge of the front tyres. It would reduce front end grip a bit, but if the car went to roll, the slippery and stiff side walls would not dig in a cause a roll. Other thing we used to do to reduce the stright line twitchyness was to put the front tyres on a tyre lathe and create a slight conical shape (smaller outside diameter, and larger on the inner edge). That would effectively provide camber to the front wheels (not adjustable on these) and make them a bit more predictable in a straight line, but still plenty of grip for corners). We would also stack a few washers under the front wishbone mount to induce some caster too. Used to love racing them - cheap but fun racing (although at the top end of competition back in the NiMH days, we used to do all sorts of games with our cells to try and eek out just that bit more power from them).
@youknoweverything76435 ай бұрын
We still put ca glue on sidewall of foam tires and a tunning option to tighten up or lose. Up a car by adding glue to say right front for oval it keeps you from rolling and if you need to tighten the car up put glue on left front for road course with the RJ speed legend of I need to be tighter both fronts get glue if I need more front end grip only one front tire gets glue but I mostly run glue on both fronts for road course cause you will traction roll on left hand corners of you only put glue on left front

camber is your friend lmfao

We didn’t use the tire compound on the whole tire. Just a small line on the inside of the tire is all you need.

A few years back me and a few friends had a budget (£200) build off the idea being fastest in a straight line. I found an old mardave mini at a car boot and got an extra set of motor mounts, added an extra inch or so to the rear of the chassis and ran two right hand motor mounts, one on the left but flipped 180 degrees and set back so the rear axle was still straight. This meant I could run 2 chinesium brushless motors, one in front of the axle driving the right wheel and one behind the axle running the left (allowing for a much bigger pinion gear) two 2s shorty lipos with two escs stacked on top (battery for each so 2s2p kind of). It was a complete weapon but would lift the front wheels so sadly never got a decent run out of it

It's "Kevin the GOAT Talbot" with another banger! That is why I love the new RTR Team Associated Apex Datsun carpet class races we have been having. 300 dollars plus good carpet track tires and a spare painted body and you are racing. The 3rd time having the class we had a turnout of 63 people registered to race. It was an epic weekend. So many first-timers went and bought them and had a blast. Plus the 1970s Datsun 620 body looks so cool. The only other cost was buying a spare body that you have to paint with 2 or more colors and add an orange number plate per the rules, or you can add a secondary color on the stock body with a sticker wrap and an orange number plate on the bed which we provided at the track. The next race is in mid-June. I can't wait.

I've had Mardave Mini's for 40 years. When I was last racing, I got my club to start racing Mardave Mini's and it lasted one season before Schumacher brought out their Mardave equivalent, and everybody moved over to that straight away! I was told it was all good as the Schumacher would be no better, but half way through the new season with the Schumacher's racing along side the Mardave's, it was clear I needed to spend more money and go Schumacher. BANG went the budget class and cheap racing fun! Why people can't just be happy with one cheap class that the Mardave offered is beyond me. We went from expensive 2WD to Mini's and back to expensive Schumacher's again! Nothing gained but cost!

Hey buddy, I just found your video and it brought back many many great memories of when I would go racing every weekend. I have raced in just about every class ever starting in the early 80's. I have since become disabled and divorced, I had to sell off everything rc related. I just bought a few tickets to a few of your raffles. It would be nice to have something to play around with or put up for one of my grandchildren. Anyway, glad I found you, look forward to your next video.😁😁😁

One of the best and biggest classes at my local dirt oval is the Stock 2WD Slash class. Super affordable and can be easily converted to a couple of other classes if you want to advance. I run street stock with a Bandit I built mostly from parts and a motor that was given to me. I've even designed and printed my own body mount system. That said, I am still in it for a couple hundred by the time I got a body and some of the other parts. Thankfully, after all of the work it's actually very competitive.

On the speed car- I remember you were having problems with the tires. Wondering what you could find and test for a magnesium or aluminum bead lock wheel and using steel belted radials (if that’s even a possibility) the wheels I’m assuming you can find or have a sponsor make some but the belted radials in a rc size is what I’m not 100% on. Another thing as well, since you were shaving the wheels down what about finding a set with less offset and bigger spokes to try and give it more rigidity and possibly solve the problem of the wheels exploding.

Those kamtec ones looked beefier but still horrible to work with. For the ESC at the end if you replace those capacitors, it will run better. I don’t know why they use those ones is there going to fail. Fairly easy to do as well as there’s only two pins holding each capacitor on. Give that a try to see if it’s more reliable. You can also increase the uf value to slightly higher. ;)

Talking expenses to racing, it also depends what track you’re running at. At my track, the difference in time between a fully decked out short course truck and my barely modded Slash is less than half a second usually. Sometimes I’m faster🤷♂️ If you don’t want to spend crazy money, find a track that relies more on skill than your setup and fancy stuff.

Kevin Must read this. I just learned something new with the Losi Promoto MX. If you tilt the receiver forward a little bit on the mount just twist it so the left top corner is facing forward. basically leaning at a forward angle the throttle will not cut when hitting the big jumps at the skate park. You lean it forward enough just to trick it into thinking it's still not past its wheelie tipping point. It works like a charm. We learned this while we were racing them and jumping them at the amain hobby race track. You put it on offroad mode it works best.
