Really incredible how much improvising, Jerry rigging, Jury rigging or what ever its called, oh sorry I meant customization Kevin does, how often it works and how good/skilled (lucky) he is at it. I mean sharpening a drill bit, no reshaping and sharpening a drill bit with an angle grinder, and much more. If you've ever done this kind of work you know how difficult it can be, very impressive.

Kev, if ya ever buy yourself your own hydraulic-hose crimping machine, make sure the first set of hoses that you make for it, are 2 sets of replacement hoses for the crimping machine itself. Ask me how I know. 😆
@dazaspc5 ай бұрын
Hey Kevin A couple of ideas that might make it a bit easier in the future. The Mag based drill is the go for the countersinking of the wheel nut holes and there is really nothing wrong with using extension sleeves but there is an easier way. You could use a milling cutter made for cutting dove tails. This would require the mag base on the other side of the wheel and removing the cutter for each hole then remounting it in the drill. Instead of pushing with the drill you would just pull it up to the required depth. Also a bit of a heads up about the new hydraulic cylinders. If they have been assembled dry and seem to be stuck in the barrel like yours were you should really avoid rotating the rod and even hammering on them as well. Why? Well when dry the seals can stick so hard to the barrel that especially when rotating you can tear the edge off that does the sealing thus causing the piston to bypass or the gland end to leak. If you can you should always try to run the cylinder a couple of strokes with oil and then rotate the shaft once it has been bled even only turning once moving. After the first 5 or 10 strokes this isnt quite as important as the seals will be well lubed. I just connect them up to the oil if possible with the cylinder filled as high as convenient. It will move rapidly for the first few strokes until the air is out of the system so you should be aware. Seeing your jack for the truck you could easily add a couple of valves and other fittings to it so you could run the cylinders a little without firing up the truck. I know you have already done both jobs and they worked out great but the info could help Future Kev so thats all it was for. Cheers

Kev, roll the tyre outside and take out the valve, lie it on its backside of the rim and try and stand on it to try and get it seated up close to the bead, now get a can of brake cleaner, spray it inside the rim just past the bead and then spray a line of it on the wall, now get a lighter and ignite the trail left on the wall and move your arse out the way quick as poss, it'll basically ignite and push it back onto the bead, its a trick by for off roaders and truckers, there will be youtube videos showing it.

Kev I expect you missed the 'Top Gear' when they did the episode from Iceland in winter. Those guys are crazy, they drove huge 4x4s with similar balloon tyres to yours. They run them at 3psi on the glaciers, and they often come of the bead and are useless. Their cure was similar to what a few commenters suggested, as spraying lighter gas inside the tyre, taking a few steps back and throwing a lit match at the wheel. The gas instantly ignites and blows the tyre back on the bead at the same time. Best done OUTSIDE. It was hugely impressive to see, I recommend finding the episode, it was with Clarkson in it.

Hay kev you might be missing one of the basics for tig. Here is a re run. Proper stick out. Proper tungsten for the job. DCEN for mild steel. Minimum 11 cfh flow for mild. Check your area for a source of air flow that can be pulling your gas away from the puddle.

What's up Kev? I just learned this the other day my dad taught me but in this situation you can take a ratchet strap and run it around the tire like all the way around the tread and squeeze the tire and that'll make it seal up on the rim and then you can air it up and then let the ratchet strap loose

Need heat/torch for the tire plugs. Light it up, let it burn for a few seconds, blow it out then shove it in. Lighting them on fire melts the plugs which when they cool off, they stick or melt to the rubber of the tire. Also, the first tool is a reemer. It's to make the hole bigger if needed for the plug. You use it like a saw (in and out quickly and repeatedly). Yea a "saw" is the most PG description for the kiddos.

You almost did it the correct way when you were putting those bacon strips in the tire instead of at an ankle you got to do it straight and as closely as in line with the hole as possible once you get it shoved in enough, pull it out really quick or yank out the reamer quickly Love the videos. There's just something about them that makes them unique and special
@isaakwilson27275 ай бұрын
When installing those tire plugs I find it helps to put a small amount 5 min epoxy it acts as lubricant making it easier to slide in first and then when it dries, the plug tends to have a better seal on the tire

Have you guys never repaired a tire before!? You have to use some rubber cement glue stuff on that strip so the wound in the tire has glue in it too. Shoving in just a repair strip will leave gaps unless you subject that part of the tire to a bunch of heat. The strip will soften into a sort of rubber goo but regardless, you forgot to use the rubber cement! .. The rubber cement acts as a sort of lubricant to shove the strip in also. So you don't have to hit it with a hammer...

Try hooking up your steering lines backwards once and try to drive it, it’s ridiculously hard! I used to work in a case ih manufacturing plant that made the big sprayers. I was a tester and every once in a while the assemblers would hook the lines up wrong and we’d go to start it up and drive it out the door for the first time and it would be backwards. If there wasn’t time to fix it on the line we’d have to drive it like that over to our repair bays. It was so weird, your brain fights you from trying to turn the wrong way which is the right way 🤣
@toddsupraman76095 ай бұрын
Without rubber cement applied to the tire plug it won’t seal and you can also burn them to seal them as well but they make something called a plug patch that goes from the inside and you pull it through the hole and there’s a patch on the inside they are great Use them for tractors all the time

The tire isnt fixed kev. I used to work on straddle carriers.You need a mushroom repair kit that is pulled trough from the inside.This way the air pressure seals it better by pushing against it from the inside. The way you fixed it by making the hole bigger.When driving and hitting bumbs it could pop out and deflate the tire really fast which is dangerous. The repair kit you used is only good for straight holes in the running surface area.Sides and cheeks cant be repaired properly with this system. Its called "Mushroom Tire repair kit." Make sure its for a tire like yours and not for a car tire. :) Good Luck

look into a gas meter that reads the actual PSI at the cup of the tig, super cheap little deal you can get on amazon. You might have too much gas at the tip or too little, its a good QC that what the regulator is reading is what the tip is receiving. The line could have a kink in it that you cant see etc...

Re the tig welder. Thats a gas problem. Looks to me like its either the wrong gas, or there's a hole somewhere thats dragging the atmosphere in. If its tig and mig/mag, are the bottles connected the right way round? You can get away with argon for mag welding (it becomes mig), but if you're trying to use argoshield to tig with, youll get a weld just like what you had there. If thats all good then theres either a leak, or possibly a clogged gas lens. Best i can say without looking at it xx
