I’ll be 40 next year but when I was a kid I remember when the 18s started beefing with BPS. I’m black and one day a teenage 18streeter invited me to their hood when I was in elementary school, I was like 10 or 11 years old and didn’t have a father in my life and mom wasn’t around. They showed me mad love. Sporty Lento Silent Joker Skinny OG Buffalo Demon Blacky Duke and a few others too. Gave me clothes and said I could drive their cars and all that even invited me into their homes and met their parents. At the time I didn’t have nothing as a kid and I never experienced that love in a Crip or Blood hood. There was a lot of blacks from 18 back in the day. It’s racial tension but it’s more complicated then that because you got black 18streeters too. Prayers to all the fallen soldiers and to their families. Hopefully peace will overcome

As a Mexican American Chicano whose grandparents lived in the 60’s hood I’ve always had friends from everywhere and we always partied and had fun good brotherhood because not everyone gang banged and one of the favorite things to do was cruise the Shaw. I remember getting pulled over in 95 by LAPD because they thought we were 18 at cruising looking for BPS’s but we wasn’t that made me think just how bad shot was like we could have been shot and killed mistaken identity because of the gang racial tensions.
