Same, my daughter's senior year in high school was vietual due to COVID and trust and believe I had to pay for a math tutor because I could not and knew we couldn't have no class failures. It was expensive as hell but I had to make the sacrifice for the child's education. Then I had a elementary school kid that had 2 school years virtual due to COVID and trust and believe I would pull up on that zoom to make sure she was participating and doing what she was supposed to do

One time, I had an assignment that we were to interview our parents, and my mom told me, and I quote, "I got my diploma." and I just stand there like 🫤. Then she got mad at me for not doing the assignment. So I did the assignment and made up stuff, and she got mad that I made up stuff on the assignment. So I did it again and it was 1 paragraph with my mom's name, month and date of birth, where she was born and that she didn't want to do the interview because "she got her diploma". @mis3ricordia so my teacher let me do the assignment for full credit because she didn't believe my mom wouldn't help me. So, I basically wrote the most random of random things. When my teacher read my interview and told me lunch detention for a week or do the assignment right for half credit. My teacher was still not believing me about my mom. So, during lunch, I wrote my paragraph. I had my friend turn it in for me, and I went to my 5th period. Somewhere during 6th period, I get called to the office. Get to the office my teacher, the guidance counselor, and my mom is there.... just staring at me 😠 with my interview in her hand. Things were said, and I just remember saying over and over, "She's got her diploma. She's got her diploma." 🤣 also I was asked if I wanted to go back to class or go home. I like I can go back to class and my mom was like "NO I'll take her home." We get to the parking lot and she grabs my arm and I break away and just haul ass across the lot trying to get to buses lining up for dismissal. When I get janked back by my shirt by my track star mom. My mom, to this day, is still proud that she caught me.

In my 24/7 childcare business, & having worked in elementary school for several years; I make sure to teach/model to my parents how to communicate, how to be present if you cannot be physically present. Ex- a parent & her child has resting anger face, in talking with that parent, I asked her to talk with her incoming teacher regarding her daughter's resting anger face. I stated, I'm sure if your mom knew to do this it would have saved you a lot of trouble. That mom's physical demeanor relaxed as she was seen. She responded, "It sure would have. Those teachers thought I was always angry about something." I am strong on my parents going into the educational system prepared to do all they can, ask questions and know a minimum 5 personal things about their child's teachers through face to face conversations.

LOVE this! It broke my heart to see parents who did not fully engage in their child's education because THEY had a bad time when they were in school. Kev was right when he said the kids in the middle fall through the cracks. There are too many kids in the classes and not enough resources. They want teachers to be everything to all the kids while also getting through all the curriculum AND prep them for standardized tests while paying them pennies. It's a whole mess.

Omg, 2.8 was my exact gpa in high school. But that was because I had the math version of dyslexia where I couldn't remember math facts to save my life. Everything else was A's and B's but getting so much as a D in anything math was a Herculean effort. I aced the English portion of the ACT but flunked the math part so bad I had to take remedial courses when I got in college. But I still got my university degree. Of course I majored in Journalism just to keep away from all the math courses.
