Thanks for another informative podcast. As much as I like power and especially spin, the Hush cannot be good for pickleball. Someone is going to get seriously hurt. I recently played in a 4.5 league match against a team of young, skilled bangers who used delisted Joola Gen 3 paddles. It was no fun.

Pickleball approval bodies like USAP and UPA-A have unique standards and equipment metrics, making it unlikely for a paddle to be certified by both. This situation is similar to youth baseball, where different bat types (USA, USSSA, BBCOR, and wood) exist with varying certifications. In baseball, the Bat Performance Factor (BPF) measures a bat's impact on ball speed, with different organizations having varying BPF standards. Similarly, pickleball uses the coefficient of restitution (COR) for a comparable purpose. While future developments might see governing bodies agree on a standard testing method and consistent COR value, other measurement criteria will likely remain different. As a result, we'll probably see paddle companies create two different products, each meeting one certification criteria, or ignore one certification entirely. This mirrors the baseball industry, where manufacturers produce separate bats for different certifications rather than a single, dually-certified product. The key point is that unless certifying bodies agree on standards, we're unlikely to see paddles certified by both organizations. The baseball bat industry demonstrates that when certifying bodies have different standards, manufacturers typically produce separate products for each certification rather than a single, universally approved item.

I bought a Hush. It plays great. Very soft with nice feel. I didn't feel like it had significantly more power or spin than a PPE. IMO, the paddle shines with controlled aggression, depth and placement rather than full power and spin. Hit it too hard and like all power paddles, the ball is going long. It doesn't have enough spin to dip the ball when hitting full power. The muted sound IMO is also a plus.
@afterthesmashАй бұрын

It's not as crazy as I was hoping. Definitely some hype going on with all the reviewers. It's a really nice paddle and the sweet spot is large but slightly high on the face. The ball leaves the face predictably, unlike some of the other power paddles. It takes a few minutes to get used to the way the ball is pocketed. I play with a SW grip on drives. I'll have to try it tonight with a full western grip.

The control is good once you get used to the feel. But, you still have to pull back for full on drives - if your drives are strong. Otherwise, the ball is sailing out. You can do shorter dipping drives as the paddle creates nice spin. This is a good option for older people who can't create their own power but want to compete with younger stronger players.

Curiosity question about the Hush paddle. I have found I don’t like paddles that make me shorten my stroke on full forehand drives from baseline. That is determined by combination of power and spin … enough spin can keep big pace in. Did the two of you find you had to adjust/shorten your drives with the Hush? I guess same question for 3 gen Joolas. I had the problem with Oni once it broke in … I can hit big spin and it wasn’t enough. I am finding more and more I’m better off with moderate power and full swings, both baseline drives and swinging volleys in the transition zone. I want that 2600 rpm 😛 … but with less power.

Don't worry too much. All the power paddles' are quickly approaching "terminal velocity". They can't get much more powerful without destroying your individual game from over hitting the ball.
