It'll be a long time before I get over how beautiful this song is, how some songs you just enjoy and that's it but this one, among few, is a song that truly fulfills your soul or spirit too.
@nicktoothpick99707 жыл бұрын
Wenz Murillo I agree on your distortion comment, but are you really going to say all their songs sound the same? The only way one could confidently say that is if they havent adequately listened to their music. Give Helpless Blues a go, listen to the whole album. I promise you won't come back and say they all sound the same.
@wenzmurillo18597 жыл бұрын
Hmm. At what point did I say that their songs sound the same? I love Fleet Foxes and is one of my all time favorite bands and I've listened to all of their songs and album so you don't have to tell me to listen to Helplessness Blues because I have. Countless of times. You clearly misunderstood my comment. What I meant with 'how some songs you just enjoy' is that there are some songs (not Fleet Foxes' songs at all) that are enjoyable but that's it, not like Third of May which is just fulfilling to a great extent.

Light ended the night, but the song remained And I was hiding by the stair, half here, half there, past the lashing rain And as the sky(e) would petal white Old innocent lies came to mind As we stood, congregated, at the firing line Night ended the fight, but the song remained And so I headed to the wall, turned tail to call to the new domain As if in the sight of sea, you're suddenly free, but it's all the same... Oh, but I can hear you, loud in the center Aren't we made to be crowded together, like leaves? Was I too slow? Did you change overnight? Second son, on the other line... Now, back in our town as a castaway I'm reminded of the time it all fell in line, on the third of May As if it were designed, painted in sand to be washed away Oh, but I can hear you, loud in the center Aren't we made to be crowded together, like leaves? Was I too slow? Did I change overnight? Second son, for the second time... Can I be light and free? If I lead you through the fury will you call to me? And is all that I might owe you carved on ivory? But all will fade. All I say. All I needed As a flash in the eye, I wouldn't deny, all receded Life unfolds in pools of gold I am only owed this shape if I make a line to hold To be held within one's self is deathlike, oh I know But all will be, for mine and me, as we make it And the size of the fray, can't take it away, they won't make it I was a fool Crime after crime to confess to But I hold the fleet angel, she'll bless you Hold fast to the wing. Hold fast to the wing

This is one of the greatest seven and a half minute songs ever recorded; reminiscent of some of the longer songs on Joanna Newsom's third album Have One On Me. Is it a coincidence then that this is also a third album? I feel many bands' third albums often deviate from their first two, going in a bold new direction and, despite being sometimes divisive among diehard fans, being as equally brilliant as the bands' earlier work but in a more progressive way. Examples: Jawbreaker (with 24 Hr. Revenge Therapy), Archers Of Loaf (with All The Nation's Airports), Sunny Day Real Estate (with How It Feels To Be Something On) and Rainer Maria (with Look Now Look Again). Even Beirut's third album The Rip Tide could be said to be an example of this, as it was somewhat criticized by the band's die hard fans for being less epic and poppy than The Flying Club Cup, but also celebrated by many for those same qualities. Likewise, while we are discussing modern Indie Folk bands, I would again compare the Fleet Foxes' album progression to Joanna Newsom's. While the earlier two albums were different between both artists, I would say that The Crack Up is to the Fleet Foxes what Have One On Me is to Joanna Newsom. They are different yes, but they both go in a new artistic direction from both artist's first two albums. Then, with each artists' fourth album, there is a shared return to poppy song structure and a shying away from epic artistry. The Fleet Foxes' Shore and Joanna Newsom's Divers both are a return to a poppy shorter songs, but also a step forward artistically, as the depth presented in the respective third albums is still largely there. Yes, there are some trends here.

I had been homeless for months when this album dropped. Chester Bennington had just killed himself and I was on a similar path. I had to shove a needle full of heroin into my body every 12 hours just to be able to stand up. I can't ever explain how much this song made me happy when I was almost 100% sure that the world was nothing but fucking bullshit. Thank you Robin. Love you dude.
