I discovered Touareg music in 1991 in deep south Algeria and i have been immediately captivated. Tinariwen keep this passion alive. In addition, these musicians fight for their people's right where the world stays silent since decades.

I was incredibly fortunate to live among the Touareg during the drought in 1984. They taught me so much, including the power of music to unite people and soothe the soul. Back then none of the music was electric. It was the human voice and creative instruments with amazing sounds to the ever present Rhythm that kept life going despite the hardship of the Sahara. I am so grateful that it can now be shared with the world.

It is hard to find a band that sings " what you live " ! Most of the songs of this band talk about the suffering of the Tuareg people in that barren desert🏜🌄.(Such as the difficulty in the presence of water💧💧, and high temperature☀️🌡...) In addition, they were contributing to the liberation of their land (Azawad) from the Malian authorities. In the morning they carry their weapons🔫, and in the evening they go to record music in the studio 💿🎧🎤 So all respect and appreciation for this great people who are still suffering so far, From the oppression of Mali's damned authority. So, We wish you safety and good health. And a life in love and peace ✌. Tanmmirt nnun "IMAZIGHEN", As we say here in Morocco. or "IMOUHAGH" As you say there in the Tuareg desert. The Berber identity brings us together ⵣⵣⵣ

@domsjuk 4 жыл бұрын
In principle I'm all for peoples' self-determination, an independent Azawad for Berbers, Moors Songhai etc., but I bet Islamic extremist rule wasn't and isn't any better for most people than rule from Bamako. Many extremists are foreign, if I understand that correctly, but domestic relations and visions for an independent state in Azawad still don't seem all that clear and settled. So I guess even ignoring foreign reluctance to accept the striving, there are some significant practical odds against a peaceful independent Azawad. Anyway, I hope people there can find a humane solution, and that the global community will eventually support their legitimate causes for self-determination, I guess this music will help a lot! Peace, bless you and all secular folks in Azawad!

"In 1980, Libyan ruler Muammar al-Gaddafi put out a decree inviting all young Tuareg men who were living illegally in Libya to receive full military training. Gaddafi dreamed of forming a Saharan regiment, made up of the best young Tuareg fighters, to further his territorial ambitions in Chad, Niger, and elsewhere. Ag Alhabib and his bandmates answered the call and received nine months of training. They answered a similar call in 1985, this time by leaders of the Tuareg rebel movement in Libya, and met fellow musicians Keddou Ag Ossade, Mohammed Ag Itlale (aka "Japonais"), Sweiloum, Abouhadid, and Abdallah Ag Alhousseyni. All sang and played guitar in various permutations. The musicians joined together in a collective (now known as Tinariwen) in order to create songs about the issues facing the Tuareg people, built a makeshift studio, and vowed to record music for free for anyone who supplied a blank cassette tape. The resulting homemade cassettes were traded widely throughout the Sahara region." -Via en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tinariwen
