Donny's songwriting is great but I think a lot of people underappreciate how good of a bass player he is. Top notch technical skills that get applied tastefully to support the song and create infectious grooves.

He's a fine bass player.. BUT. the thing that is most impressive about him is the fact that he can play this shit and sing lead on all these songs... and it's all super complex and syncopated. It's not like the song gets simpler when he starts to sing and then he complicates it for the instrumental breaks.. It's like trying to juggle and ride a tricycle or something.

It's the first time I watch him (or listen to him), and clearly he is more a bass player than anything. His singing is not great but damn that bass is pure fire.

i disagree; the bass is far too low in the mix. this genre in general, and particularly Donny's music, all has the bass *very* far forward

I was listening in the background while working, and at some point I was like "where is this music coming from ?". It's crazy that it's a live ! It sounds really good. Then I noticed that he sings while slapping the bass, what a beast !

Everyone in the band is no doubt highly talented, but the full sound comes from the massive amount of backing tracks they're using (vocals, synths, keyboards). The drummer triggers them on a pad before every song.

Saw them live a few months ago and they sounded amazing, Donny's very funny and stuck around after the show to sign merch and take pictures with fans. It was also at a barbeque spot which was an added bonus.
