I commented on one of the youtube shorts which compared k-beauty &styles from different countries in which I stated that I never saw any k-drma or idols without pale/fair skin which definitely restricts diversity and pure talents too which don't come in limelight due to such toxicity.Lots of support gained from different PPL and response but in end my comment is reported and removed 😂.Social media is helping to spread these toxic topics so we have to use social media as a defensive tool too.These kinds of topics needs to be addressed .

@@xiaojunslefteyebrow I suppose it depends where you come from and what your approach is. If your body is just built to be a little heavier then the stress of trying to be 48kg is going to cause period loss, whereas if you’ve always been slim naturally then it wouldn’t effect it as much.

Does anyone know why it's SO superficial? Like in my country it's against the law to put photos to job applications and efforts in legislation, although imperfect, for diversity and avoiding discrimination is a consideration. In Korea it seems the total opposite and then ofc plastic surgery.... I've always wondered if they can tell how plastic they look to each other and expectations on their children and so on. Even in entertainment it's like to nth level and then this falseness about how beautiful a celebrity is as if it's a skill honed through hard work. I know it's on a spectrum but feels like a Black Mirror world: keep social power where it is and no social upward mobility.

I like that the last one mentioned body fat % bc I think people are forgetting that Korean women are generally very short and with little muscle mass so for them, 40-50kg is/can be healthy, and 20-26% is easily maintainable for most people (I myself stay around 22 if regularly working out, but then I get closer to 25 if I've been too busy to workout regularly for a while). But at 5'8, 40kg would be about 35lbs underweight 😂
@mimiko7965
@mimiko7965 Жыл бұрын
I think this kind of comment isn’t really helpful bc yes we are short, but 40-50 kg is still underweight for most east Asian people. South Korean women tend to be taller than japanese women (who are typically 5’0-5’3) so it’s actually insane that this weight is normalised as the goal.

@@mimiko7965 40kg may be underweight for many but 50kg is still healthy up until 5'4, which most east Asian women are below... So again, point remains that healthy weight is largely dependent on height so you can't compare your weight to someone much shorter.
@mimiko7965
@mimiko7965 11 ай бұрын
@@kitsterangel yeah my bad I worded my comment wrong. Like you say if you’re between 44-50 it’s still healthy for a lotta east Asian women. The problem is I’ve seen soooo much of the media and friends and family idealise below 45kg and feeling horrible for being 50 or over-as if those aren’t within the recommended healthy weight range-because the beauty standards like anywhere else idealise totally unrealistic standards. Like we all need to be 5’6 and 42kg? No thanks. Under 45 is underweight for most people, even East Asian women (44 is the lowest healthy weight limit for 5’0, 45 for 5’1, 47 for average height of East Asian women 5’2). I wanna be clear that the issue is absolutely not being under or overweight like we all have our own journeys and all of our bodies are beautiful. The real issue is that the beauty standards are constantly pressuring women to either be at the lowest limit or underweight through shame and scare tactics.

As a girl who is 5'8 (172-173cm) If I was 40kg I would literally die. EDIT: This comment has gotten a lot of attention over the past few weeks so I want to point out some things. Some people got upset with me, thinking that I am skinnyshaming Korean people for having generally lower BMI than other countries average. I never said anything that would imply that. I also want to clarify that even though 40kg is classified as underweight for the vast majority of taller people, in some instances it can be perfectly healthy. It all depends on your height, body structure, and genetics. Many of you are using idols as an example of "normal" weight for females in Korea. I would like to remind you that many idols are forced to diet and starve themselves in order to meet unrealistic weight goals. And one final thing. I don't know where some of you got the idea that I am glorifying the "fat acceptance" movement, but I am absolutely not. Unhealthy weight goes both ways. There is such a thing as weighing too much, as opposed to too little! (Again, it varies based on height, genetics, etc) Having too high BMI is just as bad as having too low BMI. Both can and do cause health issues!!

Male, 5'7.5"/173cm and 130lb/59kg. I can't lose weight without sacrificing fitness. I can see a woman of my height going down to about 120lb/54.5kg since I actually used to weigh this much. She would need to be intentional (i.e. avoiding sports/muscle building, strict diet) or else she'd either gain weight (muscle or fat) or run into health problems (malnutrition, dehydration).

For a country that’s concerned with its low fertility rates it’s seem bizarre that they would have a beauty standard that would more than likely stop periods in a significant number of women and potentially make their chances pregnant in the future harder. What’s crazier is that so many women and young girls are trying to conform to this standard and inadvertently pressuring others to do the same instead of pushing back.

I'm like 155cm and I weigh 60kg. I was worried about my weight so I spoke with my doctor and asked her about it. She said that weight isn't actually as specific to your health as it seems. She said I'm perfectly healthy (not overweight in any way) and that muscles tend to weight way more than it seems so having a higher weight that it's usually seen, not always indicates that you're overweight. If you're worried about your body, ask a professional and don't go making weird diets to fit an standard weight. I don't even understand how can someone have a standard weight when all people is different. Having an standard weight of 40-50kg is just so stupid because it doesn't even have into consideration your height. BMI is also not indicative because when you build muscle (as it happened to me) It doesn't separate muscle from mass, so you might have a BMI overweight but you could be perfectly healthy. Just ask a professional and don't let standard affect your health specially with hard diets. Take care of yourself❤. It's fine if you want to be slimmer but do it while being healthy and demanding professional help, don't hurt yourself in the process

Reading the comments, I feel like people forget that Korean women are really short for the most part ? Being 40kg when your height is 1m50 isn't unhealthy at all. Bones and muscles have a weight too, if you got less of them, you will be lighter. (Of course I'm talking about 40kg being the natural weight, if you weight 40kg only cause you starved yourself but your natural weight is 50kg or more, the 40kg is unhealthy)

It's important to consider smaller bone structure, which is common in many non-white people, especially those who didn't grow up on a conventional western diet. A girl with a tiny frame might look ideal at 162cm/42kg, while a stocky girl with big bones might struggle to get under 50kg. I’m 175cm and 56kg so in Korea I’m technically big. I would be unhealthy if I weighed less. In the US I’m considered skinny but in Korea, I struggle to buy clothes in the “normal” sizes. There’s also a thing called “free size” here, where they only make one size of a piece of clothing and everyone is supposed to fit in it. If you don’t, too bad, it’s not made for you. It’s difficult

Im 162 cm (5'4") and the SMALLEST Ive been was 52 kg (115 lbs) and I was a wafe. My collar bone, sternum, ribs, and hip bones were all very visible. Theres no way (with my build) I could have realistically gotten down to 40 kg.

i'm like 65-70kgs on 173cm with around 15% of body fat and i'm often made fun of how skinny i am. i think that it really depends on your body structure, muscle mass percentage, bone density and other factors, that are often overlooked. people (and especially women) shouldn't rely on the number on the scale so much, 'cause it may be misleading and causing lack of confidence or problems with mental health. also, i really don't understand men who are like 'i'm not dating women who are over 50kgs'.

Hey you can check out your BMI with your height. Normally Koreans(Especially young adults) think over 20 is on the chubby side. Around 18 is considered the ideal. For 165cm, it is gonna be approximately 50kg.

@@Eu_0991 u can definitely do it. I am 164 and was always about 52kg, but then i decided to lose weight and now im 49kg. Losing weight is not unhealthy, its just how much u lose in a certain time span, and knowing when to stop losing weight and start maintaining it instead. I took 3 years to lose about 4kg and i do sports in school, so im pretty sure im quite healthy even tho i lost weight. my bmi is also around 18.2-18.5 and its around the healthy range. However, i stopped losing weight as below 49 would make me underweight, so i just started maintaining my weight instead.

Most people of asian descent have lower bone density and higher fat percentage which is why they can weigh less and it doesn't look weird. They also are considered overweight at a BMI of 23-27 (due to the majority experiencing adverse health conditions starting at BMI 23) compared to others who are considered overweight at a BMI between 25-29

This reminds me of HS football where the entire varsity line was 100kg, 6'2"+. I was around 85kg and 6' and tiny next to the varsity guys. Those guys were legit the size of 2 normal people.
