The interviewee on the left is point-on regarding diversity in America. And regarding guns, the truth is we Americans do not walk around with a gun 24/7. And those who are licensed to carry-concealed are some of the most well-versed when it comes to respecting gun safety and gun responsibility. As for the Korean culture and its practice of caring about what others think, I think that rings true in a lot of Asian cultures because there is a huge emphasize on saving face for not only the individual but for the entire family. Growing up as an Asian-American meant that I grew up bi-culturally which clashed often. I have found myself to juggle between not caring what others think, and then on the flip-side also considering what is socially better for my ethnic community and my clan. I see the value in both and find that being too extreme in one or the other isn't wise. There should be a healthy balance between self-interest and consideration for others.

I really wish he would have asked the guys what they mean by "open-minded!" Bc any foreign woman who has lived in Korea and dated knows Korean men usually see "open-mindedness" as someone who is "open to sleeping with someone on the first or second date, or not in a relationship" 😑
@lily7001
@lily7001 Жыл бұрын
I can feel what that imagine, but honestly, Korean men are under a lot of pressure and expectations from Korean women. Consideration, financial strength, physical standards... The reason why Korea has the lowest birth rate in the world is by no means for one reason. Many people think about gender issues from a woman's point of view, but they don't know that there's a lot of truth on the other side. So I think it probably meant that the men were freed from the demands that Korean women put pressure on men. Of course, that's what you mean to some men too. Not only Korea, all countries are similar, and women are the same

The US does not have one traditional culture of passing on ancient beliefs and customs like in East Asia. But that doesn’t mean some families aren’t super-traditional and conservative. Each family has a different cultural background and they’re free to follow bizarre or amazing customs without societal barriers in their way. Americans are open-minded? A lot more than East Asia probably, in general.

The collectivism as part of Confucianism is one part I wish East Asia would stop taking for granted. It's part of the reason why you can walk freely at night or leave your belongings behind and not have them stolen. The grass looks greener to have more independence and individuality but for FVEY countries this usually turns into a toxic idgaf about anyone else mentality and a lack of respect. The balance is somewhere between the two.

I’m happy to hear all their positive views towards Americans. Looks don’t matter much and American men are more supportive to their partner. However, in terms of cost of living. US is very expensive place to live in. Take for example, Las Vegas. Average 1 bedroom apartment is $1300. A car is a must, $400-500 plus insurance $100-200. Health Care Insurance $200-500. Seoul average 1 bedroom is $500, car $0 or subway,bus,taxi $1/ride plus transfer. Health Insurance: reasonable and affordable (I need to know more about this). I’ve visited korea for dental procedures and I don’t have any kind of insurance in Korea. My Dental procedure cost $2,300 while if I’ve done those in the US w/o insurance, it’ll cost me $13k-$15k

u also have to consider this fact into living in the usa... las vegas is a very tourist driven place... ofc its gonna be more expensive cuz its highly coveted and its geared to spend money on... like branson missouri... thats pretty expensive and its a small town with alot of tourist attractions and resorts etc... branson has more shows and theatres then las vegas does actually... u could prolly get more for ur money there but its pricey with waterfrontage homes on table rock lake and lake taneycomo
