Have been out for 17 years and work at a Community College processing GI BILL benefits. Higher education comes with its own acronym fun. Usually get a chuckle out of fellow vets when I say "just another acronym to cram in your brain".

What’s up Matt, i’m 16 and turn 17 in about a week now and i’m still trying to decide whether or not i wanna enlist into the Army or Marines, or go to college for ROTC and come in as a officer. My main focus is i wanna see combat, i wanna go on patrols and such and go overseas and fight insurgents. What’s the best way to get to that through the recruiter, training etc. please hit me back on here.

You need to pick a combat arms MOS like 11B and enlist. You are not going to see any combat right now. By the time you are done with BCT and AIT we may be at war with Russia, China, or Iran though.

I'll jump in. sometimes. A lot of it is voluntary but if you are in a leadership position like platoon leader, company commander or XO, heck yeah. You'll be wasting lots of time other than weekend drill. Then you have annual training to attend.

How about key acronyms Soldiers must know since 90% of Soldiers are never going to use these. And why say "Initial Army Training" and follow it with "(BCT)" when those are not accurate. It's Basic Combat Training (BCT) and Initial Entry Training (IET) which includes BCT and Advanced Individual Training (AIT). Soldiers, this is why all officers need a solid NCO to lead them in the right direction.

I have a question id appreciate it if you'd help me "GI Bill, provides up to full tuition for veterans and current active duty Soldiers who have served at least 90 days on active duty" Is it possible to go from the reserves to active duty, serve your 90 days, then transition back to the reserves? And if so are the transitions smooth?

Only if the unit you are assigned to has airborne positions and slots for school. Very unlikely you go Airborne in the Reserves.

You will either figure it out at basic training to run 2 miles or be discharged at basic for failing to run 2 miles in time unless you have a permanent medical issue* asterisk ask the recruiter if you think you have a preexisting medical situation that would prevent you from running 2 miles at basic training for enlistment options.
