Key & Peele

Key & Peele

Күн бұрын

The villain of a historical epic struggles with the fact that this epic also happens to be a musical (a la "Les Mis").
About Key & Peele:
Key & Peele showcases the fearless wit of stars Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele as the duo takes on everything from “Gremlins 2” to systemic racism. With an array of sketches as wide-reaching as they are cringingly accurate, the pair has created a bevy of classic characters, including Wendell, the players of the East/West Bowl and President Obama’s Anger Translator.

My favourite bit of trivia is when Peele appears to say "Legateaux" at the start in reference to Key's character, but he's actually reading "Legato" from the stage direction, which means he should sing smoothly. It's as if he said "Enter stage right".

@@hellohi4644 : Check out _Little Shop of Horrors,_ from 1982, made into a movie in 1986 (with Rick Moranis and Steve Martin, among others), written by the same duo (Howard Ashman and Alan Menken) who would go on to write the music for the first three[*] Disney Renaissance movies. It's comedy-horror, however, so it may not be quite what you're looking for. [*] That's _The Little Mermaid,_ _Beauty and the Beast,_ and _Aladdin;_ _The Rescuers Down Under_ doesn't count. Ashman died while writing _Aladdin,_ but Menken went on to write music for several other Disney (and other) productions for stage and cinema, and has not stopped yet. Yeah, I kind of went overboard writing this comment.

He's even got that little sibilant "shlurr" like Colm Wilkenson (who originated Valjean) had (the sh in "Lock my ssshoul away") - it's so specific, I've got to assume it's intentional, and that's the sort of touch that only someone who knows musical theater well could add.

@@Logovanni best parts of the movie: I Dreamed a Dream, Do you hear the people sing, On my own. Anne Hathaway's acting in I dreamed a dream is incredible. Do you hear the people sing is led by Aaron Tveit, an extremely skilled singer, and a broadway star. On my Own is sung by Samantha Barks, and while it isn't her best performance ever, she still pulls off a pretty good version of the song.

hoa hoang This parody is just based off of the actual characters. Peele is pretty much Jean Valjean cause of the lyrics, he stole a loaf of bread. The lady, I would say is Fantine. She was pregnant with cosette before she got married, and the dad of Cosette pretty much left Fantine before she could say she was pregnant. Key = Javert. Because it's a parody, the dates and story lines don't matchup with book.

I don't think you realise how good this is on it's own. The production and musical composition is stellar, it actually holds up against real serious songs, even Les Mis itself. I always come back here to listen to it and when that happens i repeat it about 2 dozen more times. I hope you might consider release the sheet music or something for the actual music because I feel like groups would genuinely perform this.

Did she indeed sing this herself? If so, it's funny that some people, to me at least, look like they don't sing during a video and instead made a voiceover (may or may it not be their own voice). In this case, it only happens to her and not to K or P....

What also makes this musical sketch extra amazing is that the overall song kept in-theme to Legateaux's (Key) central & starting verse, _"One at a time.",_ just like _"One Day More!"_ in Les Misérables. That was excellent writing. :)

One of the best sketches I've ever seen, not just for the humor, but for the production values, the music/singing, costume and set design. They have better laugh out loud sketches, but this is just pure quality in every way.
