I start calling Å Flörken from this day. I am Finnish and most Finns thinks it is very odd that Å is part of official Finnish alphabets. There just is not a Finnish word with that letter. And we call that letter 'ruotsalainen oo" (Swedish O) so Flörken is much shorter and better name for it. But Ö kan still be Ö and Ä can still be Ä. :)

@@Pehmokettu despite being American, I can explain it. The Republic of Finland has two official languages, Finnish and Swedish. They decided to make both languages use the same alphabet, despite the fact that as you mentioned, Finnish words don't use Å.

My neighbor worked at Keytronics. He was an old guy that had been out of the company for many years but was an engineer. He told me when he worked there they had a really hard time making the letters and symbols on the keycaps clear and crisp. So he ended up calibrating the machines by making smiley face keycaps. When his boss found out what he was doing on company time they sent him to the higher ups. His boss was pissed off and thinking he would get him fired. But the higher ups were so impressed with the quality of the smiley faces they decided to run a few smiley faces every day to calibrate everything and make sure they would look top tier. And apparently sold the keycaps as well since they did not ship with the keyboards. He was an old guy and a great guy (named my kid after him since he was like a grandfather to me) but I don't know if this story is bull or not but I believe him and I know for a fact he worked at keytronics because his wife took me there to pick him up once when I was a kid. I have never been able to find a smiley face keep cap that was made by keytronics or if if I have no way of proving it was. Just something about keyboard history I thought I would share.

Some time ago I got a Keytronic foam and foil board, 'Professional Series KB 101' and decided to put it in the rotation. I don't know if it's just in really good condition but believe it or not, it's not bad. It's very smooth and no scratchiness or binding at all. On the other hand there's nothing that's going to make me pine for it when the week or so is up. Any way, your efforts are much appreciated Tom.

You'll have to try a low profile F&F board that's in good shape. The one in my Compaq portable doesn't bind, and isn't scratchy. The one on my Wang PC is also not scratchy, I think it has the high force rubber sleeves in it.

Indeed it's built like a battleship, my boss at work has one of these keytronic boards. Except the one he's been using for the last 27 years has rubber domes with sliders. He once told me it cost 5000sek to buy back in '94. Cheers from Sweden

On the subject of scratchiness, I thought my MX Brown loaded Corsair K70 wasn't scratchy....then I got myself an iGK61 and loaded it with Kailh BOX Whites (and a GMMK, which I put BOX Jades into). Now the Corsair feels like it's practically filled with sand.

PBT shrinks at a different rate from ABS. If you don't know how to compensate for this, this can result in large caps warping during manufacture.

I just repaired a Compaq Portable 1 keyboard which is a key tronics design, although I actually think this board is worse, and I knew foam and foil was bad, but it was so horrendous that I came here just to re-affirm the design is just that horrid. Honestly, I do have the technical know how to rewrire that board to work with a modern PC, but I don't think I could in good conscious subject you to it.

you state that your don't use a 'proper' typing method. And you seem to have a lot of trouble with key binding (on bad keyboards). Do you think those could be related? I can't test this myself as I mostly have IBM & Unicomp and have no sympathy for bad keyboards so they just got chucked.

Speaking of Swedish keyboards - have you tried any of the Luxor ones?
