"The Noose" and "Weak and Powerless" on the same album might be my favorite tracks from that record. And this album is probably my favorite from APC. So good.

I’ve always wondered how hard it was for Billy Howerdel to not sound like Tool since he used to be Adams guitar tech up until their first show on the Ænima tour. I’d say he’s done a pretty good job.

Billy was also a stage/guitar tech for a bunch of other bands too (including Guns and Roses if I recall) but yeah his guitar style and sound is his own for sure. Mer de Noms was basically only written by Billy (unlike the other APC albums) - and his "influences" for that album are mostly New Wave bands as odd as that may seem at first...

"Blue" never gets the credit it deserves. Thats track is simply mesmeric. Harmonies and bass in it are otherworldly. Sleeping beauty is proper unerrated too. Beautiful track.

I've had so many friends with so much potential that just couldn't get out of their own way... this whole album is about addiction. Every track. Such a well crafted album which is becoming a lost art. Great choice.

It's about recovery from addiction and the 12 steps too. Name is right in the title. The 13th Step is usually known as the act of someone who had been clean longer, persuading and becoming physical with a newcomer, with negative motives.

"The Package" lyrics are straight up about my last comment. They're written from the perspective of someone with clean time going to a meeting etc. and using cliches to pull a newcomer in until they're done with that person. Great song.

I remember buying this album in a school trip to Cape Cod. Went to sleep with the CD on my headphones, fell asleep and woke up to the sound of The Nurse Who Loved Me. I was a 17 year old Spaniard exchange student and everything felt friggin' surreal. It's been 18 years already, I won't ever forget that first listen to that album.

I once fell asleep listening to Roger Waters - Amused to Death blasting on the stereo really load. I woke up during the choir, chanting and drums at the end of "the Miracle". Even though it's probably 20 years ago I remember it vividly.

One of my favourite songs of all time off one of my favourite albums of all time. Josh Freese's playing on this record was instrumental in me becoming a drummer myself and he also played a big part in me playing Paiste cymbals. Everything here just sounds absolutely phenomenal and it's got just the right amount of compression to make it sound fat and punchy without completely squashing the dynamics.

You need to see the live version of this song performed at the Red Rocks Amphitheater. It's the absolute best, it's impossible not to get wrapped into the energy of that performance. It's easy to find, check it out!

Maynard's ability to deliver emotion with his lyrics to also add to the melodic sense of the music as a whole is his skill. With all the bands he rends his skills to this is one of those where he can't step out of the shadow as is forefront in his unique ability.

A Perfect Circle is fantastic, and I got a few albums from Puscifer to get acquainted to their whole catalog as well. Love the vid, man! Keep rockin', awwwright! P.S. - Just ran through Alter Bridge again today, maybe time for some _Blackbird?_ I assume you have heard it as you are a big fan of Myles Kennedy. I remember coming across a nice live version on KZbin that has ALLL the nuances in his voice, especially in the breakdown with the long notes before the outro riff. Fantastic work!

Absolutely love A Perfect Circle! I’ve been a disabled drummer for 35 years and they were the first band that really got me into music! I’m so glad you’ve finally found them, dude! This album is wild and I love every bit of it. I saw them on the first tour for the album and i was 10 feet from the stage, my ears rang gloriously and it was amazing seeing them perform together. the melodic love they give gets me every time.

I’m still here :) The first time I listened to this album I was 18 years old. I set up 4 speakers under my bed and would just listen from start to finish. This is a great opening track and sets a good mood for the rest. Love getting lost in these tracks

This was my favorite album as a young kid, but I stopped listening to it as much as I got older while still appreciating it as a well-written piece of work. A few months ago, I was struggling with an addiction I held for years and decided to revisit the album as an adult. From then, the love I already had deepened so much, not only because of the lyrical content but because of the atmosphere and nuanced songwriting. One of the best rock albums of the 2000s in my eyes.

I couldnt agree more about the drum EQ being eargasmic. They sound so Clean, yet _fat_ and alive, the sound intoxicates to want more and more. This song comes from a great album, and one other quite beautiful song worth checking out from that record is "The Noose". A wonderful reaction, as usual! Some of your insights have really stuck with me ever since I started watching your videos at the beginning of this year, so I hope I can return the favor at some point.

The production of ‘Thirteenth Step’ is possibly one of the most magnificent executions of sonics of any hard rock or metal album ever and the songwriting, instrumentation and arrangements are just transcendental. It’s so good on multiple levels. The first three tracks are pure ear candy.
