The story where Paz becomes interested in rock music is pretty cool. When she first came to the USA she was in a store with her Dad and heard rock music for the first time on the PA system. She said she knew thats what she wanted to do with her life, be in a rock band, and she was only 9 or 10 at the time.

💬Girl power! On the bass guitar in this song is Paz Lenchantin (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paz_Lenchantin), current member of the band, Pixies. She’s had a 24 year career in the music business and has a lot to show for it. To be honest… she had me the moment the camera focused on her shoes the first time. 🤷🏻‍♀😅 I hope you all enjoy this one and onto the next! ~insert Dr. Evil pinky finger to lips meme here~ I have been waiting almost since the beginning of this journey to do this next one! 🤫

This song is about his mom Judith, she was a devoted Christian, and she ended up being paralyzed for 27 years. A lot of people so-called Christians question her, why God did that to her if she never did anything wrong to him. She used to say, "Your God is not my God. Your Christ is not my Christ." He knows the reasons why, and I'm gonna stay devoted to Him. Maynard said it in an insulting way to the people who questioned his mom. Fuck your God, your Christ. My mom is a true Christian. Because she never questioned why. Listen to Wings for Mary Part 2. When Judith dies and goes to heaven. Is the continuation of this song in the Tool album 10,000 days. The 27 years Judith was paralyzed.

@@TheCatabolicTrex I do understand that. What Maynard was dealing with I’m sure hurt his faith. He wouldn’t have asked if he hadn’t believed in the first place. This is why so many lose faith when they don’t realize who is creating all this sin, death, and disease. It’s not God but many put God as the arbiter of all that happens on earth. I was explaining that after the garden Satan was the boss. He doesn’t own the Earth he’s in charge basically making it Hell we all thought was somewhere else. The lake of fire is only from judgement day. We’re in Hell now because of who the boss is. Jesus recognized that more than once. So if he originally had faith he failed to understand God wasn’t the one who put in place the things to make her and all of us sick. I could go in and on but maybe you already lost your faith or never had it. But if you step back and look at it maybe you’ll see that we need to escape this Hell to have peace

I'm a life long Christian, and this song has always caused such mixed emotions in me. The lyrics always make me recoil a bit, but the energy and passion and pain in the performance, especially that last refrain consistently brings tears to my eyes. I never took this song to be completely anti-Christian, and Maynard in his comments over the years doesn’t seem to be explicitly anti-Christian either. Maynard’s dispute seems to be with a kind of faith that lacks questioning, or that does not recognize its own shortcomings. There are real questions for the faithful about why a loving God allows so much unending suffering. Faith cannot be a matter of blind acceptance if it is to make any sense. In the face of so much evidence against a loving God, it should be a constant struggle to reaffirm your faith, and to continue believing. To be truly faithful, you must acknowledge how damn difficult it is to keep that faith. And to blindly accept is to lose that fight. That’s what I understand as Maynard’s message in this song when taken with the fuller context of his comments over time.

The song isn't exactly about Maynard's opinion on religion, per se... It's about his mother and her unwavering devotion to God. His mother's name was _Judith._ His mother was always a devout Christian, and one day she got sick, which caused her to have a stroke and left her paralyzed. In spite of this, her faith never wavered. The song is Maynard's anger and frustration with her for being so devoted to "something" that crippled her despite her devotion. She passed away a few years ago, and one of Tool's albums (Maynard is also the lead singer for Tool, incase anyone didn't already know this), "10,000 Days", is titled after the approximate amount of time she spent in a wheelchair and in constant pain. The song "10,000 Days (Wings for Mary; part 1 and 2)" has to do with her devotion, death, and his grief. It's kind of brutal listening to this song, and then listening to "Wings for Mary part 2", because the songs are on completely different sides of the "spectrum", so to speak.

I get that. 💯 I'm a MASSIVELY lapsed Catholic, but it still feels a bit like blasphemy to rock out to this song. 🤣💯 I still do though... because I realize that its all a reboot of a story from Babylon, honestly (same origin stories... look it up 💯) But that "Catholic Guilt" loves to show up when I'm jamming to a song. 😂😂😂

judith is an incredibly emotional song about maynards anger towards the church after his mother's congregation turned her away when she became paralyzed, telling her that what happened to her was probably her fault. she was in pain and suffering for 27 years. when she died, maynard wrote wings for marie and 10,000 days (a rough estimate of how many days there are in 27 years), two parts of one song about grieving her, accepting her death, and the pain of moving on. listening to judith and then both parts of wings for marie is truly incredible and moving.

At first listen, “Judith” appears to be a straightforward rock song, filled with heavy guitars and powerful vocals. However, the lyrics tell a much deeper story. The song is dedicated to Maynard James Keenan’s mother, Judith Marie Garrison, who suffered from a stroke that left her paralyzed. The lyrics are a poignant reflection on Maynard’s struggle with faith in the face of his mother’s illness. He questions the existence of a higher power and grapples with the unfairness of her condition.

Paz. Paz Lechantin. Argentinian virtuoso bass player. And with the first strike, #Momma hit a geyser. We fans have certain things we like about our fave videos, and for me, it was Paz tying up that hair in the break. (I have long hair. When I do it, it looks like hand to hand combat.) And before a note is played, I get to see a dozen young men notice Paz tying up her hair. Out. Standing. To say I've been drooling for this one for a while is an understatement. Any APC, Tool, Puscifer gets an automatic stop from most of us, I think. I've seen a great many of these reactions, but of course, there are new ones. And higher I climb up the Reaction Tree. All you content creators, pay heed. This is how it's done. To quote the imminently quotable @AlexHafner, "It's talent, it's abstract, it's different." It's also necessary. Thanks, #Momma!

Just a background for the lyrics: Maynard James Keenan, the singer's mother had an anuerysm when he was 11 that paralyzed her. Her name was Judith. She was devoutly religious. That's why the lyrics come off so anti-religious. This is an expression of Maynard's anger at "God", who struck down one of his followers and paralyzed his mother.

I've been a HUGE Tool fan since Aenima. I despised A Perfect Circle. It was too... I dunno, not Tool? lol Ordinary, I guess. Even this song made me think, "Maynard, this is so far beneath you!" As I aged, I came back to A Perfect Circle with a different understanding of them. I adore them. Now, do I hold ANY of their albums as high as ANY Tool album? F no. Not even close. This song, though... I am a religious person, and I understand this song on so many levels. It's a masterpiece.

Perfect circle is a super group whose members include former artists from the Pixies, Nine Inch Nails, Eagles of Death Metal, Primus and Smashing Pumpkins among others.

Not “former” from Pixies…”currently” from Pixies.

This song is him expressing his mom's health failing and him losing his sh/t as she was a devout faithful and he couldn't see how God could allow his perfect mother to suffer. I think with age comes wisdom amd believe he he is not of this belief anymore and having the understanding of why he made this song is what allows me to actually listen. I feel it's the awakening moment of change for him vs. Blasphemy....maybe that's me rationalizing it to justify it but just how I personally perceive it.
